IMO, they should issue a recall (if they do that sort of thing with products like that). I dread looking for my receipt since I'm pretty sure it's in a box with hundreds of receipts and I'm not looking forward to going through all of those. Guess I need to do that soon and hopefully I'm still under warranty.
In any case, I plan to get a different receiver but finding the one I want hasn't been as easy as I had hoped. |

I bought in AMZ. Hope they accept online receipt.
My nearest service center is located over 600 miles. Did anyone send to service center repair for the HDMI handshake issue? and how long it takes you to get back the unit? If it takes months, i may have to buy Pioneer Elite soon and send my 606 for repair... This is my first receiver and very disappointed with 606. ![]() Quote:

for about a month now I have been having issues with my 606 "no signal", constantly looking for hdmi signal etc. Replaced my cable box 3 times within the last 10 days (blamed my service provider), 2 days ago I rec'd no signal on my panasonic blue player. changed my hdmi cables...nothing.
my unit is about 16 mo old today. called onkyo...what a bunch of loooooosers. took it upon myslef and drove my unit to service center which by the way looked like a store from a scene of "slumdog millionaire". i know now that my hdmi board is fried, after reading your posts and doing some BBB research. How about some class action lawsuit....it is well known 606 are bad and nothing is being done about it by them...some bad press will do harm, hit them where it hurts, their wallets....look what happened to toyota... give me some input |

Reading about the issue elsewhere, several were taking quite a while to get fixed but it was mostly because the service centers ran out of the part needed to fix it. Hopefully that has been rectified but just about everything I've read has indicated it would be at least a few weeks to have it done, probably more. Anyway, that's my plan as well. I'm going to buy a new receiver (different brand) and then send the 606 in for repair. That way I won't care how long it takes and if they manage to fix it properly, I'll just use it in the spare bedroom. Quote:

I dropped my 606 for repairs yesterday and was told to wait approx 2 wks.
Onkyo will not stand by their customer no matter what happens ...below is a letter rec'd from their rep....... "Since it appears that your unit was just taken into Audotronic we cannot process any exchange at this time. Any of the TX-SR606 units that have been repaired with the replacement of the HDMI circuit board have not failed again. As an accommodation to address your concerns I would be more than happy to provide you with a 1-year warranty extension once the repairs have been completed and you have the working receiver back in your system. Please keep me advised when the repairs have been completed and I will issue the warranty extension letter for your records". xxxx xxxxxx National Service Manager Onkyo U.S.A. Corporation xxxx.xxxx@us.onkyo.com Claim that HDMI board functions well after being replaced is yet another lie. There are many instances on the record where HDMI issue tends to reappaer and there is no know fix for it. Way to go. I will definitely keep you all up to date after I get my rec back......Can't wait . Done with Onkyo . Long time customer. |

If it is still covered by warranty it will be 0$....or so they claim.
What gets me is that after 2 years you are on your own...and HDMI board, if you wish to order it from Onkyo costs 539.00 USC....yes ( five hundred thirty nine bucks) + labor costs, unless you are savvy enough to fix it yourself, but then again ...fixing it yourself will void your warranty.... I paid 450 $ for my unit, their policy is 3 strikes and they "might" consider replacing your unit with 607....keep in mind "might"...on the top of that when i turned my unit in to be diagnosed and repaired as soon as I walked into the store I noticed another 606 and a 607 at the front counter...(anyone?...yes...waiting to be diagnosed and repaired), and I have pics to prove my case I am slowly building against onkyo ...onkyo does not have a fix for HDMI...let it be known |

Hey Steve,
Sorry, I didn't see this earlier. I suggested Marantz to him, which turned out to not be in his budget. He ended up with a Sony STR-DN1000. He is very happy with it. His Onkyo was taken in to be "repaired" for the handshake issue, which has been reported to not always fix the issue. I hope it turns out for him, as he plans on using it in a workout area, moving it out of the main theater. |

So I've had 3 issues with my rec since I purchased it around 2 years ago.
My first issue is that when I hooked up a DVI to HDMI cable from my old cable box I got the green screen so I had use component. After using the component for a while I kept getting a blurry spot on my tv that went across the entire top of the screen. It varied in height from .5" to 2" when it popped up. Turning the unit off and on always cured it. Well...... Lately it won't pick up a signal through the component "Cable/Sat" connection until the rec "warms up". If I turn it on and let it stay on for a little while, around 5 minutes, and then cycle my tv and cable box off and on in a certain sequence it works. I thought it was the old cable box at first so I called the Time Warner and ***** about my bill and got a free DVR upgrade. I didn't call for free stuff, my bill had been climbing ever since I turned some stuff off. Anyhow, I hook up the sweet, glorious Motorola DVR thinking that HDMI will solve my problems. No. The HDMI connection worked for about 1 minute then I got the green screen. I called TWC and Onkyo. Both blamed each other but I believe the cable guy. Onkyo said something about a firmware upgrade on the DVR and a HDMI handshake issue. So I bought a Logitech 510, ran an HDMI from my box to the tv, ran an optical from the box to the receiver, and set up my remote to switch HDMI sources when going from "Cable/Sat" to any other setting. I'm thinking about selling the 606 and picking up the new pioneer I can control with my iPhone through wifi. 3 Zones. I can listen to Beethoven on the crapper, watch tv in the livingroom, and listen to Slayer in the garage and control it all through wifi on my phone. |

There must be different levels of issues. I definately have an annoying issue where depending on the order i power on things (blu-ray, onkyo, TV) it takes a few attempts to actually get everything working right. And while this is perhaps 1 out of 3 or 4 times... I also get an odd thing where if I turn off the TV, the blu-ray player turns off (even though the onkyo is in between them). However, these are all annoying...but i have yet to not be able to get it to work and all the inputs and outputs still work fine, etc. its been over a year since i started having these "minor" issues and its never gotten worse. Also, I have a 503 (older model i use for the TV with just a DTS-DVD player and TV) and its really got some miles on it and never had issues. Also, I have a couple friends with 607 models and granted, they are newer, but never had any problems of any kind. So i guess it ranges.

Well I got my Onkyo 606 back yesterday after 7 weeks..same f'n problem still when streaming from my PS3 at 480p with Netflix. Hasn't dropped the signal at 1080p yet..When the receiver was gone I had my PS3 directly plugged into my TV with no problems whatsoever. One thing I noticed that the 606 degrades the picture somewhat via HDMI. And the Zone 2 light is on for some reason...
Least this repair didn't cost me $$$. But I'm not counting the 45 minute drive each way though. I'm one & done with Onkyo. Garbage product. ![]() ![]() Going to Vegas in a week maybe I'll win some money to buy something else. EDIT: After a few hours my 606 displays lines running through the picture when my PS3 is set at 480p and 1080p. grrrrr Last edited by bandit29; 05-29-2010 at 11:10 PM. |

for all of you that have the signal problem, i usually used white sony hdmi cables (with golden ends) and i had many "no signal" issues. However since i replaced sony cables by panasonic white hdmi cables, i haven't had problems anymore. it seems 606 has these problems with some hdmi cables. So buy panasonic hdmi cables. it works perfectly with onkyo 606. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Hello. I've just purchased a used 606, and I have the buzzing issue over HDMI (haven't heard about that until I bought it).
So the only way to fix it is to RMA the unit? No firmware update or anything? If that's the case I think I'll try returning the unit to guy who sold it to me. I'm just curious why he claims he didn't have that problem. I don't want to waste a few weeks trying to get it repaired, I'd rather buy something else. |
