Anyway, in the edited version there were two main sequences removed. The first was the scene where Bond breaks into Gumbold's office, photocopying the documents and stealing the Playboy centrefold. In the edited version it goes from Bond entering the main door of the building and then cuts right to Bond arriving at M's mansion.

The second sequence that was edited out was the one where Campbell (the blond curly haired British agent played by Bernard Horsfall who shadows 007 in Switzerland) tries to access the cable car to Piz Gloria and protests as Grunther pushes him away.

If you remember seeing these two sequences, then you've seen the complete film!
The first US DVD was also edited, but not in the same way. It was minor bits of scenes and shots and lines throughout, very annoying.

One example I seem to remember is that when Tracy and her father are in the car while Bond breaks into the safe, the scene ended with her father asking "And he's in love with you too?" and her saying "That may come too... someday". In fact, the scene goes on for another minute or so in the uncut film.

And also, the scene of Telly Savalas holding Diana Rigg prisoner was shortened, removing the portion where he says "You own father has ways of keeping it a closed shop", or whatever the line is. And the stock car chase had a line cut, and a shot of a cablecar was cut, etc. Dunno how MGM found that weirdly edited print for the first DVD, but it was fixed for the Ultimate Edition.

Same. I'm glad I recently picked up the 2012 releases cheap to complete my collection. To mostly match in with some of the 2009 releases with gold lettering.

Just wish they had kept all the spine actors head shots in the same position. On my 2009 releases with gold lettering the photos were on the bottom for the first 4 before they decided to switch them to the top for the remainder on the 2009 and on the 2012 where they also switched to white text. On the 2015 reissues they are back on the bottom again but using the same airbrushed photo of the main actor on the front cover and Added the 007 logo to the top.

Don't know why there is so much inconsistency between the covers every time the James Bond movies get reissued. I know there are people who like having the covers match on the shelf for all the movies in the same franchise.

Yes, I remember that too. It was especially noticeable because the shot of the cable car was cut but it still retained the sound, so there was a weird hum on the soundtrack during the shot of Campbell climbing the mountain. I actually wrote to MGM and asked about it and they said there were edits made to the film in order to make room for all of the special features!

I'm hoping the bonus disc is on both, but it may be exclusive to the Amazon version.

There was also a version of On Her Majesty's Secret Service that was aired on ABC television in the US. It's a hot mess and it's the way I first saw the film. The films starts at Piz Gloria then flashes back to the opening sequence! It's not until I got the Laserdisc way back that I saw the film the way it was meant to be seen. I wouldn't be surprised if it's bad reputation sprang from the TV cut. The film also didn't have Sean Connery, so that was more salt in the wound. I personally think it's one the best Bond films, right up there with From Russia With Love.

The fact that the new film seems to have taken some inspiration from OHMSS shows how much its reputation has improved where it's now generally regarded as one of the best in the series.

3. Thunderball - (I just pre-ordered the Steelbook on Best-Buy)
4. On Her Majesty's Secret Service - (I just pre-ordered the Steelbook on Best-Buy)
5. The Spy Who Loved Me - I have the 2012 Cover version
6. Moonraker - I just ordered the 2012 Cover version
7. For Your Eyes Only - (I just pre-ordered the Steelbook on Best-Buy)
8. The Living Daylights - I just ordered the 2012 Cover version
9. License to Kill - I just ordered the 2012 Cover version
10. GoldenEye - I have the 2012 Cover version. Hopefully they can do a remaster on that one. Also thinking about getting the UK Steelbook but I am not too excited about the cover art.
11. Casino Royale - (I just pre-ordered the Steelbook on Best-Buy)
12. Quantum of Solace - (I just pre-ordered the Steelbook on Best-Buy)
13. Skyfall - (I just pre-ordered the Steelbook on Best-Buy)
14. Spectre -

Anyway, I am happy with my editions. Just because they made some James Bonds, it doesn't mean that they were all good. Some of them were terrible, campy and dumb.

In my collection I have 4 Daniel Craig movies, 3 Sean Connery's (his best), 3 Roger Moore's (his best), 2 Timothy Dalton's (really impressed with him - he was ahead of his time) and 1 each for Brosnan and Lazenby.

Anyway, what do you guys think? Is this the definitive list?

Dr. No was also good but somehow it wasn't fully developed. The latter Connery's were a let down. Roger Moore was only good in those three (I feel). And Brosnan was great in GoldenEye but they had a great director there. I can't believe they let those other directors direct the others ones. Just terrible. That's why I skipped them also.

:-)

I own...

Dr. No
From Russia With Love
Goldfinger
You Only Live Twice
The Spy Who Loved Me
Goldeneye
Casino Royale
Quantum
Skyfall

I've been meaning to get Thunderball and the two Daltons, but was lazy about it... Now I have to settle for the re-releases with the shitty new cover art. I had cover art uniformity up until now with the exception of FRWL which was the original release cover. All the others were from the 50th anniversary repacks. Now I'm gonna be all over the place!

But yeah, once I get Thunderball, LTK and TLD, I'm good. Other than Spy, i'm not a huge fan of the Moore Bonds.

Watched OHMSS tonight and while I do like that movie a lot, and love the direction/cinematography in it, I will never understand why so many love that movie so much. It has such a cheese factor to it, it doesn't really fit in with the other EON classic films and so many lines, moments and plot points are lacking. It's a solid 60's spy movie but one of the best Bonds ever? No way, for me.

Diana Rigg is one stunning woman though. I want someone to go back in time and get her to film a prequel of Tracy gallivanting around Europe having her with with men and causing trouble.

Always amazing what nonsense rationalizations people come up with to defend defective stuff, instead of just admitting they messed up. So glad we have the uncut version on BD.

Well I'm inclined to believe they truly didn't "mess up" and did it deliberately. The response also contained something along the lines of how polls indicate customer enjoy more special features. I remember my instinct was to reply to her "Yeah, but not at the expense of the film dummy" but I never bothered. The first thing I did when the Ultimate Edition releases came out was go straight to the cable car scene and make sure it was still there. Like you, I'm glad we have the uncut version on Blu-ray though.

The edits only cut like 30 seconds or a minute out of the film though, I can't imagine it saved enough disc space to make any sort of difference. That first DVD of OHMSS was truly bizarre. Dunno where they found that bizarrely edited version of the film.

Actually, it's not even the shortest cut of the film released. The CBS/FOX videotape and laserdisc had all of the cuts the first DVD had, plus an even shorter version of the stock car race.

Not a fan of the Bond box set packaging. So managed to picked up all the individual Bond movies when they were cheap. I have 7 of the original 2009 releases with the gold text. I recently managed to pickup the remaining 2012 release versions cheap. Assume because they are clearing them out to make way for the 2015 reissues.

As I didn't want to get stuck with mismatching covers for all the bond titles with the new 2015 releases shifting the smaller side spine photo back to the bottom, using same but slight larger cropped version of the front airbrushed cover actor image and adding the 007 logo to the top.

The only one I haven't got is Diamonds Are Forever. Only because the retailer I purchased it from kept sending me damaged copies. Hopefully they can find a replacement. Though not worried since that's one of my least favorite Bond movies. Although still like to have it just for completeness.

Hi,

Can someone knowledgeable post detailed info on which 007 BDs contain lossy downmixes (from 5.1 remixes) instead of the advertised original theatrical tracks?

I'll add the info to the downmix thread for future reference.

Thanx.
