Original run does mean original run, yes.

Though honestly I never hated Diamonds as much as some do. It's the worst one he did, sure, but I have a good time watching it anyway.

I wish I had these instead of the Bond 50 boxset, better packaging and value

but they should've picked different covers for the second volumes of the Sean Conney and Roger Moore collections

I could be wrong but surely the Bond 50 set is noticeably cheaper than separately buying all of those and a standalone copy of On Her Majesty's Secret Service? Personally I own just one Bond six film boxset and the rest are all individual releases. I didn't want to buy the Bond 50 set when I already owned (and had fault-checked) so many of the films already. Also individual releases look nicer than boxsets imo.

It's poorly made though there are elements I like.

This is the best set with regards to packaging and value:

The black version comes with more extras and a book though. In any event, plenty of cheap ways to own Bond now.

Yes I was a bit annoyed that you can only buy that on dvd unless you get the Amazon boxset.
Thankfully after showing it cut to bits ITV gave it a late night repeat and I recorded it on my Bluray recorder and I was very surprised but pleased to see that the film was unedited and runs exactly the same as the dvd version up until the end credits where ITV as usual speeded them up.
But that was a small price to pay to have the EON film in HD although I expect the UK Bluray will be longer than the dvd as the ITV broadcast will match the 50hz of the dvd

And digital codes too. But for someone who wants to own the entire [Eon] series for the cheapest price and the least cumbersome package, the white version is the best, hence:

I have the white boxset, excellent having 24 movies in a nice compact package. I swapped out Casino Royale with the uncut UK version for good measure as well

the volumes are $20 each now, and Majesty's SS is $10.

I think I paid $130 for the boxset, + bought Skyfall and Spectre separately so at least $170

plus the boxset didn't come with digital copies

it looks lame it's nice to look at first as a gift set, but not for use/movie collection

This is what I have (plus the 3 non Eon films separately). I love it. No extras at all (I would love the codes). But it does the job.

I love the new set myself. It isn't cheap to be sure, but I prefer it to the "Bond 50" and "White Box" collections. Aesthetically, it just feels like a more fitting and attractive set. It's still compact yet more...substantial, in my view.

I actually like the more sleek black with circles design, as I feel it gives the set a slightly more retro flavor. And I still view the franchise as mostly a 60's and 70's driven franchise. At least most my favorites fall in the Connery through Moore years. By comparison, the white box sets are fine but just not as attractive, in my opinion.

In addition, as a Bond fan and extras nut, I'm glad to have the new 90 minute piece on the bonus disc. Would I have bought this box just for that? No, probably not, but throw in all the loaded films and the better box design and I just like it better than the white box sets.

And count me in as a fan of the abbreviated book! I love Bond posters, and while I have the big book, I actually like it when these classy little gifts are thrown in to complement the sets. Much in the same way that I am dissapointed when films are released "bare" with no (quality) commentaries, etc, I'm always pleased to at least get a small quality book or something that enhances the overall purchase or presentation.

About the only thing I'm not an enormous fan of with this box was the idea to put the Bond villains on the cases. I mean, it's no big deal. The discs are the heart of the set, but to my eyes it kinda gives the cases more of a "swashbuckling" kind of look rather than keeping with more of the classy aura. So how to remedy this? Easy. I'm now in the process of making photo collages of my favorite Bond girls and using them as case inserts. The set will soon be "perfect" and not merely great...

The review of "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" states:

"The original 2.0 mix has been effectively expanded into a full, lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround track. Don't worry, purists, the multi-channel broadening has been tastefully accomplished—no stagy new sound effects have been thrown in here—and the addition of surround speakers and subwoofer output definitely adds to the immersive qualities of the film."

That's wrong. All the gun-shot and explosion sound effects are new ones and completely different to the original and when Bond (Lazenby) is sliding down the ice lying and shooting you can hear the Bond theme playing, in the original you can't hear the theme when he is sliding.

I contacted the reviewer when that first went up and let him know that was wrong. It was never corrected. I always listen to the mono track when watching the film.

Ohhh nooo! The entire movie is ruined now!

Certain movies have different mix elements used in the video versions, even in mono.
Unless you remember how it played in 1969 and have confirmation someone added those FX/music you can't be sure.

I opt for the mono from Dr.No to The Man With The Golden Gun...as it should be.

Actually, one of the key scenes in OHMSS is indeed ruined by the new mix. The scene where Bond breaks into the lawyer's office is accompanied by a lengthy and brilliant John Barry cue, with minimal sound effects, all of which are mixed extremely low. The new mix inverts that, filling the soundscape with effects, which are mixed very loud, while the music is dialed down to almost nothing. The suspense of the scene is destroyed.

I agree, I always watch the films with the mono mixes for the films that originally had them. It's just a shame some have said that one or two may not be the original mixes.
