This artwork dilemma reminds me of the Friday the 13th series and how it's been marketed over the years. Each time that series would get revised on whatever format, the titles would get new Photoshop covers. They rarely captured the tone of the films themselves and each new batch was worse than the ones before it it. Meanwhile, the original poster art was just lying around somewhere, looking just fine.
I get that they want to be eye catching on the shelves and appeal to more people than just grumpy old Bond fans who have been buying and re-buying these all along anyway, and I'm fine with that. That said, I'm continually amazed at how terrible each new revision is. The last round of Blu-Rays in 2012 was no prize but there were some solid designs in the group (FRWL, Goldfinger, Goldeneye, and OHMSS being pretty damn cool). These new 2015 individuals, though... what were they thinking?? |

These were probably the best packaging design so far, within the DVD/Blu Ray era:
![]() No idea why the entire series didn't get a release back when these were in print. Although, The Man with the a Golden Gun, Moonraker and Licence to Kill were added to the lineup in Region A towards the end of this design's life cycle. |

Only thing I dislike about them finishing the rest on the cheap is they stopped converting the special features to HD. Not that it really matters, but those documentaries in HD were pretty nice. |

I personally can't imagine double-dipping on Bond again unless the series ends at some point and a complete and total set is released... which given the history of the franchise seems very unlikely (hopefully). Add to that I've owned no fewer than four iterations of 007 on home video - VHS, two on DVD, and Bond 50.
Admittedly I haven't really read through this thread, but is there any incentive to double dip beyond repackaging and what looks like a flimsy promotional book? |
