I know that the Bond films have been released in 4K on iTunes but I don't know how they compare to the old Blus.
Just recently had a look at Dr No blu ray on a 65 inch 4K tv, not OLED. Upscaled it looked excellent with as much detail as can be obtained but unfortunately the fake grain looked unnatural to the point it looked like digital noise. For some reason the colours looked too natural for a Technicolor film. Did Lowry dial down the original saturation for most of their 4k remasters? Why did they add in fake grain? What was the method they used?

Yeah releasing those old Lowry masters on UHD wouldn't go over well. They look overly processed because of when they were done. EON would have to do all new 4k remasters which I doubt they're in a hurry to do, but I guess you never know. Solo releases of Craig's movies seems more logical.

Rewatching A View to a Kill on DVD for the first time in a long time, always had fond memories seeing it in the theater. And I see why still, the opening ski action sequence is very welll shot, and then soon after is the Eiffel Tower chase scene and that is well done.

But what's up with the jump cut when Grace Jones is getting into bed with Bond. I'm sure it's the same on the Blu-ray right?

This has always been there. Removing some unintended nudity I expect.

A View to a Kill once again has some excellent scenes spoilt by the stupid humour that the director still seems to think was a good idea.
The ski chase is going brilliantly then they decide to add some Beach Boys style music over the top removing all the tension.
John Glen admits responsibility for all this type of shit in all the ones he directed. Thankfully the intentionally darker tone for Licence To Kill meant he couldn't add any to that one

I have to admit I have a soft spot for The Beach Boys snowboarding sequence.

John Glen was a great 007 director. There, I said it!

Despite my reservations about certain scenes, tonal misjudgements, I would argue that his tenure holds up extremely well.

Two of his entries (Licence to Kill, Octopussy) are in my top five.

A third (The Living Daylights) in my top ten.

And For Your Eyes only and A View to a Kill - though uneven - have some great sequences between them.

A View to a Kill is the Moore movie I watch most often. Not saying it's his best one but for whatever reason, it works for me.

Octopussy and View to a Kill both have embarrassing moments but the movies are so fun. I don't know why but I love them. Of course, I love pretty much every Bond movie so...

The jump cut was always there. I believe it was to edit out a nip slip.

Its not often you find a bond film directed by the same person now. John Glenn came up in the ranks from ohmss, possibly editor/ 2nd unit, the producers must have been happy with his work to ask him to direct several bonds. I think he did a good job.

I'm not saying the John Glen films are bad , far from it. However there are many moments in each one where the naff humour spoils what could have been a better sequence.
In For Your Eyes Only the rather novel car chase sequence with the 2CV is spoilt when after being shot at repeatedly they let the villains car pull up along side them and instead of being shot at they merely exchange smiles.

The Blofeld sequence at the start - keep your hair on and other one liners all spoil what could have been a great sequence.

The Barbara Woodhouse reference in Octopussy, some of the unnecessary one liners, the tennis references.

However, these are just moments in the films which as a whole are great Bond movies.

What really kills the pre-credits sequence in For Your Eyes Only for me is when the quasi-comical music by Bill Conti kicks in...that and the "I'll buy you a delicatessen, in stainless steel!" line (still the most WTF line in the series, IMO).

I rather enjoy Roger Moore giving a smile to his pursuers in FYEO, as surely as I enjoyed his smile in response to Caroline Munro's wink as she's attempting to machine-gun his Lotus Esprit from the air in The Spy Who Loved Me, or his smiling at Jaws prior to a couple of fight scenes in Moonraker.

That smile in response to danger was rather a Moore specialty, no?

I think the humour in the PTS of FYEO was meant to be ridiculous as a way of emasculating the Blofeld character as a middle-finger to Kevin McClory.

The only sequence in that film that truly makes me cringe is the Maggie & Denis sequence at the end - *squak* give us a kiss, give us a kiss, "Oh, Mr. Bond".

Humour was a hallmark of the Roger Moore era though. Even though these jokes are pretty god-awful now I still smirk when I see them and at the time, people like that. It's just by the time AVTAK came out, a new era of action film had begun.
