Bond composer David Arnold does her orchestral arrangements.
Yes, she certainly is a contender. I just hope the producers will go for the Director's preferred composer to do the music, Danny Boyle has used John Murphy and the Indian composer A.R Rahman a few times. Rick Smith is also another composer on his recent movies.

He's used such an eclectic mix, he doesn't really have one composer he favors. Daniel Pemberton did Steve Jobs, and I'd love to see what he'd do with a Bond film.

The composers of the Bond films rarely do the songs anymore though, sadly. I wish they'd go back to having the song be written by the composer and having the theme integrated into the score, works so much better that way. But I recognize the economics favor having a star write the song in virtual isolation from the score.

I don’t think it was ever confirmed that song was meant for Spectre. It was written for Honeymoon.

She says she wasn’t asked to work on the film.

Definitely sounds like a Bond song though

Oh, it does. I remember she said she always wanted to do Bond when the album came out. Million Dollar Man and Shades of Cool also would work as Bond songs.

Has anyone watched Licence to Kill recently? I watched bits last night through my AVR and the dialogue (DTS MA) was barely audible, are the other channels very hot? It was more or less unwatchable (or un-listenable).

I watched it about a month ago and had no issue.

I rather enjoy Roger Moore giving a smile to his pursuers in FYEO, as surely as I enjoyed his smile in response to Caroline Munro's wink as she's attempting to machine-gun his Lotus Esprit from the air in The Spy Who Loved Me, or his smiling at Jaws prior to a couple of fight scenes in Moonraker.

That smile in response to danger was rather a Moore specialty, no?
Conti or Hamlisch vs the generic 007 soundtracks of today , hmm which do I choose

Would Bowie had been even more bizarre as Zorin than Walken , prolly not :P

Choose whichever you prefer of course, but I'll take generic over the frequently jarringly inappropriate score by Conti in For Your Eyes Only (which calls far too much attention to itself, IMO); only the Michael Legrand score for the "unofficial" Never Say Never Again hurts my ears more...

As for Marvin Hamlisch, I think his playful and rather cheeky score for The Spy Who Loved Me suits the fun tone of that film perfectly...though of course when it comes to Bond scores nobody does it better than John Barry.

Was sorry to read of the passing of Eunice Gayson. She had that great combination of sexy and intelligent all the best Bond women had, and was impishly funny in both Dr.No and From Russia With Love (did Connery seduce her or did she seduce Connery?). Her prompting of the immortal line "Bond. James Bond" certainly secures her place in both Bond history and film history.

Have to add I liked her in Hammer's Revenge of Frankenstein as well.

R.I.P.
