100% this My eyes simply glaze over at these disclaimers - I'm indifferent. But my mate gets absolutely triggered, and starts foaming at the mouth. I tell him to relax, ignore their white noise and enjoy the movie; but he'd rather enjoy losing his shit at the damn notice.

There's another alternative, which is to not even have the disclaimer, because no one in the target audience for the films cares.

...and no reason to see them. As I recall there were warnings on some of the Fleisher's Superman cartoons. *snip*. Haven't seen an FBI warning, preview or scolding since starting the HTPC project.

I don't know. I hear more people complaining about the trigger warnings than people complaining about the actual content that's being warned.

It's nothing new. The same babies were whining about things being too "politically correct" in the 90's. They just use the word "woke" now.

People upset by trigger warnings outnumber people upset by triggering content 100:1.

Trigger warnings have, like so many other concepts, been expanded to the point of meaninglessness. They're horrendously overused. But it doesn't actually harm anyone to have them present, except inasmuch as it lends credibility to those who wish to invalidate the concept of PTSD as a whole. Which is absolutely not the biggest complaint against them.

I'm looking forward to the next level of complaints about trigger warnings - that the ones warning that the subsequent film contains sexual assaults, outdated cultural depictions, use of offensive language, etc. constitutes a spoiler, so trigger warnings should be preceded by spoiler warnings.

I actually did go in and switch off MUBI's content warnings after one of them spoiled a film, so it does happen.

I think everyone and everything should be mocked nowadays so we all start out evenly and stop getting our feelings hurt so much. I would rather we all have thick skins than too thin cuz when it comes to the latter, there ain't never any solutions that are acceptable. Discriminate against everyone equally and we will finally have peace on Earth.

I have my issues with these "trigger warnings", but that right there is the biggest and least talked about reasons about why they should be unacceptable. Sometimes the point of scenes with graphic/sexual violence on screen is to create some impact and emotion on the viewer, and having a screen just outright telling you what's going to happen greatly lessens that impact.
