For what it's worth, I looked at my copy of Goldeneye from the 2016 Ultimate James Bond Collection (black cover set with Fox label, with Spectre and Everything Or Nothing included), and the file creation dates are all 2012.

Looking at the actual picture again, I have to agree that it's not the worst thing ever. It's watchable, but of course the 4K version that's available digitally blows it completely out of the water.

Here are some quick caps from the Blu (top) compared with their counterparts from the 4K version I have on iTunes (bottom). A lot of variables here: these are just screenshots from my monitor, and the BD is playing through DVDFab. Also the caps might be a few frames off from each other, but hopefully they're close enough.

What sucks is that either way we lose.

With two discs, one's okay and the other's bad. I also think if the okay disc got played on a better TV than I have, it wouldn't be a case of "okay disc and bad disc", it would be a case of "bad disc and worse disc".

If there were only one disc, it's a bad disc. Shouldn't have even left the factory. And then we're left with DVDs. There's at least three DVD discs.

The correct answer is MGM needs to get the lead out of their asses and restore these movies. They probably have more demand than all the other titles they own combined. If they're truly as piss-poor broke as they claim, why not ask Uncle Jeff for some money?

No, it’s Blu-ray only. While there may be a Blu-ray+Digital set, I honestly don’t know if there’s one or which one it is.

Please tell me all the pink on the 4K is an issue with your screengrabbing process and not how they actually look.

Probably; again, I just pulled them straight off my monitor out of the PC iTunes app. I just wanted to show confirmation that they were indeed from different masters.

The 4K is definitely warmer overall than the old HD transfer, but on my calibrated living room TV, it does look more balanced than the screenshots.

I think it's something with Itunes when you're streaming it on your PC if that's how you got the screen grab.

Something about Itunes player on PC has ABYSMAL colors. I refunded GoldenEye immediately and bought it off Prime with better results.

It looks great, all things considered with streaming bitrates, but the source master will look great on a 4K disc.

Wasn't sure which thread to make this belated post in (couldn't find a recently posted-in thread specifically about Licence to Kill in the North America sub-forum).

Had meant to make this post last week after reading in the daily newspaper I get, that it was Gladys Knight's 80th birthday last Tuesday. I remember finding out during the last few years that Patti LaBelle's birthday is a few days before Gladys Knight's. LaBelle too celebrated her 80th birthday recently (the Friday before last (May 24th).

I had a handful of releases I really wanted on 4K for 2024:

The Terminator (40th Anniversary this year and has now been announced)
A Nightmare On Elm Street (40th Anniversary this year and has now been announced)

The NeverEnding Story (40th Anniversary this year, no announcement yet)
Lethal Weapon (no announcement yet)
Bond 4K collection (no announcement yet)

2/5 not bad I suppose.

I tried to buy Octopussy on blu and it seems to be the ONLY Bond blu ray suddenly out of print despite being released again only four years ago. Did MGM bury it because of the provocative title? What world of prudes do we live in now?

There's a gorgeous 4K of The NeverEnding Story out in Germany - complete with Klaus Doldinger's original score!

I currently have the UK James Bond Collection Black Box that comes with the booklet but I want to get the USA copies of Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, Live And Let Die, The Man With The Golden Gun, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only and Licence To Kill for their original soundtracks.

Would I be better off tracking down & importing these 9 individual Blu-rays from Amazon/Ebay and swapping out the UK discs from the boxset for the US discs?

Or do you think it would be cheaper/easier to just buy and import a US Bond 50 boxset or US James Bond Collection boxset and just swap out the cut Casino Royale disc for the uncut UK Casino Royale disc?

Probably inexpensive to import individual discs at this point. I imported the US set originally and had the UK Casino Royale so got round the issue that way.

Hoping that 4K discs are on the way at some point though.

Out of the loop, what's wrong with the UK discs on those titles?

It's really not worth importing for how bad the original audio is on the BDs. You'll be much better off just searching around for the laserdisc mixes.

The UK releases of Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, Live And Let Die, The Man With The Golden Gun, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only and Licence To Kill don’t have the original mono soundtracks that many people prefer over the newer 5.1 tracks.

Are they that bad? I thought most people preferred importing the US set just to get the original superior soundtracks.

I remember when Bond 50 originally came out, people were deciding whether to get the UK set for uncut Casino Royale or to import the US set for the original soundtrack on all films.

If the mono quality is that bad, I might not bother importing the US copies.

I really hope if/when Bond comes to 4K the UK can get good quality mono soundtracks as an option on all the films.

Quality varies from film to film, but none of them are great

The NeverEnding Story without Giorgio Moroder’s music? Very no thanks.
