I have been putting my 4K discs in with my blurays. I think having the same case size and shape makes that work for me. The difference in size between DVD cases and blurays always made me want to keep them sperarated.

I do not like reading comments about people combining formats.

I keep them separated. The 4K’s are at the top rows of my shelf, regular Blu-ray’s at the bottom.

Oh and alphabetical.

All of my DVD's. Then all of my Blu-rays generally, although I do keep animated Disney in their own section, as well as Godzilla, Studio Ghibli, and then anime in general. 4K is also by itself. I can't bring myself to scatter them through the Blu's.

I keep my UHDs and my blu-rays in the same space but separated.

I only have like 5 DVDs left that I kept just because of the pacakaging and because I upgraded everything I cared about. But I keep those in a separate cabinet away from the other movies.

I used to be a lot more anal in the DVD days and have everything organized alphabetically.

Now my collection is a mess. Criterion together blus together and 4k together. Maybe i'll organize it soon.

Same as always--lumped together by genre.

I keep them all together sorted by release date. But I don't buy blu-rays anymore, or very rarely. I see no need to separate them as UHDs also include blu-rays and the case is basically the same.

I separate BDs and UHDs from each other and put them in their own shelfs alphabetically.

Separated. UHDs A-Z, BDs A-Z, TV on DVD A-Z, concert DVDs A-Z, sports DVDs separated by team and chronologically within team, then DVD movies A-Z

The correct answer is:

Mixed with blus (they all have blus too anyway) and in alphabetical except for some groups (films in a series like Marvel CU). TV shows separate.

4K's are sorted by alpha by series.

Do you look under, say 'B', when you're looking for a movie to watch?

Organize your films by genre. Drama, Comedy, Disney/Pixar, 3D, Super Hero/CBM, Acition, Western, Kung Fu/Samurai, Sci-Fi, Horror, Documentaries, Television Shows, and Anime. And sometimes, the occasional mini-section by director (like Tarantino), sub-genre, Criterion, etc.

When you organize by genre then you can decide what kind of movie you're in the mood for first and then look at the associated titles. They are still in alphabetical order within each category.

I lump all blu-rays/4K together alphabetized/numerical sequence.

DVDs are on separate shelves ordered the same way.

Exactly, makes a lot of sense.

I really like this idea, think I might do this eventually.

Depends on if am I looking for a one off movie, studio or actor.

I prefer series or actors over genre, I am rarely ever in the mood to watch a movie from a genre, I more often get the urge to binge actors or maybe series.

Genre is of no real importance to me anymore.

I used to have them sorted by genre, but my current set up is much easier for me to find things.

The best answer is to sort them in whatever way pleases you, whether it be chronological, alphabetical, studio, actor, director or even genre.

All mixed up in boxes, except a single shelf of 4ks with box sets on the left, then sorted by studio, and then cartoons for the kids at the end.

I separate based on format and loosely on genre but I keep my label specific collections together if I have more than 5 releases. I alphabetise my sci-fi/horror and my general collection but for my Criterion, Indicator and MOC stuff I go by spine number. My UHD's are separate.

A mixed bag of tricks but then it works for me.

The 4k collection is basically my mainstream/blockbuster movie collection and it's ordered alphabetically.
My arthouse/classic movie bluray collection is ordered geographically: french , italian, russian, scandinavian, eastern european, asian, Hollywood classics and a separate shelf for westerns...and then subordered by directors.

Depends, sometimes I’m in the mood for a “B” movie
