All of my movies are stored alphabetically, whether they are DVD, Blu-ray, or 4k. The only exception are movies or shows that are over-sized collections such as The Wonder Years' Locker set, Ingmar Bergman's Cinema, Breaking Bad barrel, etc...

I separate my blu-rays, UHDs, 3Ds and DVDs into separate sections, and then separate those sections into watched/unwatched.
But I just got married in September, and we sold my bigger but much older house and are living in my wife's two bedroom house while we look for a new place. At the moment all of my watched blu-rays and all of my DVDs are in storage. I have to say it gives me a bit of anxiety not having all of my collection at my fingertips! ![]() |

DVD alphabetized, TV series by themselves
BD alphabetized, TV series by themselves Criterion (DVD & BD) by spine # 4K (only 5 so far) sits on top of Criterion, best fit, because 2001 A Space Odyssey is thicker than normal 4Ks. Christopher Nolan collection is a bulky box (6 movies) so it sits by itself. |

I've got 2 skinny Ikea media shelves that go: Disney > Marvel > 4K > TV > Star Wars (for some reason) > everything else. All alphabetical. I quickly ran out of space so on a separate shelf I have Doctor Who > steelbooks (in no discernible order) and in front of all that is my Black Friday haul from this year in 4K > blu-ray > TV...
...I need more space. |

I’ve done pretty much every organization scheme over the years: alphabetical, chronological, separating formats, by director, even binders and file systems while in college. Right now it’s by genre, formats mixed, alphabetical. Large series/franchises (Disney Animated Canon, MCU) are in their own section by series order/chronological. Mixing formats doesn’t bother me, but seeing things like silent films next to modern comedies did. Completely chronological made sense to me but was confusing to others using my collection. Also I hate non-series multifilm box sets like the WB 50 movie set. I break these out into individual cases so I can see the films on my shelves.

I separate the 2 formats from each other- 4K and Blu-ray. Then I simply stack them on the shelf alphabetically exactly like in the 'My Collection' feature on here.
If I have any Region 'A' locked titles I apply a small green sticker on the spine so I'll know to play them in the appropriate player. |

I go numbers then alphabetical and/or by sequel. I split movies and TV shows out of preference. I do mix my Blu-rays with 4Ks though because they are the same size cases and look uniform.
The only exceptions to my alphabetical and sequel rule is when the title is different. For instance, Road Warrior is technically a sequel to Mad Max but it's simply called "Road Warrior". I leave it under the Rs but I go back and fourth if I should just put it next to Mad Max. First world problems. Rambo is the worst though. First Blood is similar to Road Warrior. It should be on its own but I ended up filing it as Rambo to look uniform with the other slips. |

But shouldn't that go under T since it's "THE" Adventures of Hercules II?

Of course, you do. It's "The X-Files" not X-Files, for example. Just like The Client or The Avengers. What about "A Time to Kill"? That would go under the "A's" right. It's not "Time to Kill".

I organize my blu ray movies like I do with DVDS. by genre or at least movie series if a horror movie franchise like Elm Street or the Marvel movies along with older Marvel comics movies.
Even though I still have older Marvel movies for DVD like Iron Man 1 and Incredible Hulk I still organize the by putting them next to the more recent marvel movies for blu ray |

Most systems ignore "The" because it’s so common. Pretend it isn’t there, and file them under C for Client or A for Avengers. A Time to Kill would be filed under A's in my collection. |

"When alphabetizing titles or group names as authors, go by the first significant word (disregard a, an, the, etc.)" https://www.thoughtco.com/how-to-alphabetize-1856896 "When alphabetizing titles, tell students they will not consider the words a, an, and the as part of the title..." I could go on with dozens of more examples... I mean, you can do what you want, but expecting everybody else to do it is just silly. |
