Some of the Michaels craft stores I go to frequently for plastic model stuff have a DVD/BD bin up front with mostly Mill Creek and Echo Bridge releases, plus a few Fox and MGM titles on occasion. A few weeks ago I saw two copies of the Willow BD at the Rocky Point store's movie bin for $5, but assumed it was a re-re-re-issued bargain bin title and skipped it. I later realized that its been OOP for a while and is now going for huge $$$! I then went back and the bin was gone in place for Valentines day shit!!! WHY ME!!!!

Thanks to this thread I stepped up my timeframe for purchasing.........Congo. I really don't think this will be pressed to disc again.

I'm surprised that people are wanting Congo.

Now, I do have to admit that I haven't seen it since I got it off PPV back in either 95 or 1996, but I remember it being terrible campy and disappointing despite being promoted as a big Jurassic Park like movie.

Should I actually give it another chance?

I watched it a few months ago and was very disappointed, I don't think you are missing anything.

Only reason to watch Congo is to see Tim Curry ham it up as only he can.

It's totally not worth $50, maybe $10 at the most since its a bare bones release. It is a somewhat entertaining movie with good character performances from Tim Curry, Ernie Hudson and Joe Pantoliano.

Yeah, I've made my peace with Congo. Especially the sesame cake scene with Delroy Lindo. I can watch that on repeat. Hilarious.

But it is a bummer if you know Crichton's book. It reads like the greatest adventure/techno thriller movie of all time. John Patrick Shanley (who I admire a great deal) didn't take a single concept in it seriously and Frank Marshall was not a sophisticated enough director to make a genuinely good film in spite of that.

I discovered it 5 years ago and felt in love with it. It has everything I like to see in an adventure movie. It's campy, fun, fast, with excellent performances all around, a solid cast, great outdoors.
It's a brainless funny movie. I honestly can't see what not to love in this.
But I must confess I often love movies everybody else hate

I think Ernie Hudson steals the show as the urbane & sophisticated African guide, Munro Kelly. As memory serves (I could be wrong) it made a ton of money on the opening weekend, but dipped very sharply on word of mouth after that. Despite all its faults I like it, it's a fun adventure film, a B film with an A film budget. I'm happy to have the Blu-ray.

Of course if remade today all the apes would be CGI, the models & actors dressed-up as apes dates it, but I think in a good way, plus another great score by the late great Jerry Goldsmith.

are you trying to be obnoxious? Read the OP before posting. If you find more than one thing out of print after you've read the OP, just edit your first post. I hope you're just naive & not a troll.

Just awhile back I pointed out that Miike's Audition was displaying as "Not Available" on Shout Factory's site. Since then, they added this note to the bottom of the product page:

Quote:
Product Note

Audition [Collector's Edition] is now OUT OF PRINT.
