Criterion is a distribution company, not a genre. Like any other distributor, be it Fox, Universal, etc., they release a wide gamut of material.

Yeah, but that's different, cuz it's obvious your Dad is just asking for it.

Indeed they are. It's right there in their mission statement.

You act like "Criterion" is some kind of film, one you obviously don't care for. It isn't.

Just another artsy fartsy member. We have plenty of those in the Criterion thread. They think they are better because they have several hundred titles that they paid $30 a piece for and are in foreign languages.

Where did I say anything bad about the Criterion collection itself?

They release a wide gamut of films, old and new, spanning all genres.

My one dig at anything related was at the few vocal people who think it is a type of film instead of a wide ranging line.

You definitely have a point there, I'm not sure why people are getting on your case, quite frankly. I used to see people complain all the time that the months announcements weren't "obscure" enough. Particularly baffling that some complained about blu-ray upgrades, or if a film was released in some foriegn territory (sometimes even on DVD!) There seem to be people that think Criterion's sole job should be to release avante garde or experimental films that have *never* been released before in the west - or possibly never on home video at all - anything else is a waste of time.

To me, Criterion does a great job... and I love, love, love at least half of what they put out (maybe more). I actually do enjoy quite a bit of what most would consider their obscure films (stuff like The Music Room, Complete Jean Vigo, Pale Flower, etc). All of those were obscure to me, but i took a gamble and loved them. I could list dozens of similar examples. But I also don't complain if they release some mainstream classic. Especially if that classic wasn't previously treated very well on blu-ray/DVD. If they release 5 films a month, all I would ask for is variety. Maybe 1 per month that is "obscure" but that they find compelling, 1 that is a high classic (which can be difficult to obtain in licensing), and 3 that are somewhere in between.

I didn't say I disliked it, I just have no interest in it. I'm sorry, nothing personal.

Odd. The complaints I see month after month of announcements tend to be of the "never heard of any of these" variety posted in a dismissive tone.

I'm pretty sure it is okay seeing as Firefox is one of the worst reviewed films of Eastwood's career. lol. I do own it, but I find it incredibly tedious for most of its duration.

I quite enjoy it from start to finish especially the middle third when he's trying to evade detection.

Is Pet Sematary going OOP?

It's only available through 3rd party sellers on Amazon, and it's not available at Wal-Mart.com and now the price has shot up to like 17 bucks on bestbuy.com.

Olive's release of "The Running Man" is only available through third party on Amazon also. You can get it everywhere else but I wonder if it is on it's way out of print. I'd guess it will get a reprint but it's something to be on the lookout for.

The Lionsgate release has better PQ anyway.

It's a Paramount title, and they all seem to be in limbo since the WB deal is over.

Yeah but it's out of print already. If both go out the price might jump up a good bit.

A lot of Olive titles like The Boogens have recently gone missing on Amazon - but I don't think they are OOP. It's probably just some distribution deal gone bad between the two parties. Everywhere else still carries them in-stock, including Olive's own site.
