It was just mentioned in the post before yours how these Olive titles are not OOP. They are in a price "battle" with Amazon and the title was just pulled from there. It's for sale on Olive's website.

Ok...they are NOT OOP as someone mentioned, it appears that Amazon is no longer selling some of the Olive titles. It is available through Olive Films and in other places as well (Deep Discount). Guys just because some third party lunatic lists a ridiculous price for a movie that does not make it valuable nor make it OOP.

I asked Olive Films about this weird Amazon issue and here is their response:

"Hello and thanks for getting in touch! This is an issue we've been noticing with several of our titles. They are not going out of print, and you should still have luck ordering them from BestBuy.com or from our website directly. We've been working hard on getting it fixed! Sorry for any confusion it's caused."

So let's please stop with all the Olive Films false alarms.

This is why amazon is a terrible baromoter for when things are OOP, or even if they are OOP how much they actually go for.

There is no way any transactions take place at $200-600 for a title that is not even OOP. A person with that much money to burn couldn't be that stupid.

The last copy sold for $12 on ebay just a few days ago. Of course looking at the history it seems only about 1 of these per month sells on ebay, if that - even for $12 it's a very low volume of transactions. It seems the more recent listings are all in the $20-30 range, so maybe some on ebay are trying to capitalize a bit on the Amazon situation.

Start with amazon, then check other sites (dvdpricesearch dot com will do a bunch for ya at once). If you can't find it there, or only seee it listed on unreputable sites, check ebay. If it's not on any sites and is getting double MSRP or more on ebay, odds are it's really OOP.

Then come ask if it is OOP so others can do their research too, or mention it looks like it is and others will fact check for ya.

I was watching Hot Rod on TV the other day and was reminded that I didn't own it. Then I saw it's out of print and I was sad.

On the plus side, I've been revisiting Europe's "The Final Countdown" album.

This site keeps pretty up-to-date on when discs go out of print. Not 100%, of course, but then again who is?

They stopped updating about 7 months ago, though. Still a valuable reference for anything before that, but anything that's gone OOP since then won't show up there any longer.

I regret the implication (especially if they aren't keeping up-to-date anymore!). I think their value is -- or, I guess, was -- that you do a title search and see not just "this title is out of print", but whether it had been reprinted by the same company, or a different company, or whatever. (Plus, honestly, most of what I'm looking for that is out of print is DVD, not Blu, so that site comes to mind before your list.)

I think the value of this thread as a resource is that it is culled; you don't just dump alphabetical lists of every disc that goes out of print, but actually cite relatively significant releases that are genuinely unavailable.

Thank you for maintaining these lists, you have made my project to upgrade my DVDs to Blu-ray significantly easier between this list (so I knew which ones were harder to find and should be snatched up if spotted at a decent price) and the bonus features list (so I know which ones to keep for the bonus features even after upgrading for the picture).
