That's correct. If I included store and website exclusives this list would be 10 times longer and you can't find many of these a couple years after they run out anyway.

Okay, thanks. I don't usually follow the individual posts, so just saw that it appeared oop, thought I was being helpful by reporting, and then thought it would be helpful to "unreport" it, so to speak.

Personally, I'd say that Amazon exclusives that remain in-stock for months and are the only way to get certain movies/shows, like with Agent Carter or AoS, or even have vastly different packaging exclusives such as these Marvel sets, are in a different category then most store exclusives. But of course it's not my thread or call.

Doesn't appear to be. Flicker Alley's listing says "Out of Stock", but not "Out of Print":

Every Which Way But Loose doesn't look OOP.

Guess you will be keeping them now ? Were you going to sell them ? Why keep them just because they went OOP ?

I was thinking the same thing. I collect stuff I like. If it happens to go oop, oh well, I'm not selling them. I don't collect crap I don't like that is oop, or will fetch big prices. Not the way I collect.

If something is OOP and I am iffy on keeping it then it definitely adds some incentive. The Arrow Video edition of Videodrome for example. Love the movie, got it for the exclusives, but the Criterion was a slightly better release IMO and at the end of the day I couldn't turn down $100.

If Zodiac is OOP, I think that is the second time. I found it at a Blockbuster closing sale a long time ago when it first went OOP (IIRC).

It is the second time. First versions were from Paramount then went OOP. They came back with the Warner distribution deal (same discs, new cover with new WB UPC & box on back) and now that deal is over, and it is OOP again.
I also got my original version when Blockbuster closed here while OOP the first time.

Yep, that first Paramount release was only briefly available and was OOP for a while. I remember driving an hour to the other end of the city to a Barnes & Noble that still had a copy at the full $40 price during the lengthy period when it was OOP.

It's discouraging to see so many titles that just go OOP out of the blue without knowing if it's due to a better release being released down the road. It's scary actually. Luckily I own the titles I know I like that have gone OOP but there might be titles I haven't seen that might go OOP that I might want to own and it will suck if that happens. Though I don't mind spending $60 or so from a third party seller on amazon to own the title if it comes down to that.

Studios are sometimes afraid of creating an Osborne effect by announcing that a new edition is coming out while the previous version is still on store shelves. In this case the specific fear is that customers would then stop buying the old edition once word got out, leaving a ton of unsold inventory that would then likely have to be liquidated at a loss.

I think I paid $2 - it was a previous Blockbuster rental but no glue on the cover art or stickers on the disc or anything

Damn, this was still there when they got down to $2? If the sales were run like around here, that would be 4-6 weeks in! I happily paid $8 for mine the day the sales started. I did get all the Saw movies for $1-2 down the road though.

It looks like 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance' is another Warner release that is going OOP...

All the discs Warner licensed from Paramount are OOP, though titles are trickling back into print.
