Yep, this problem seems to always come up here. People get Out of Print (OOP) and Out of Stock (OOS) perpetually confused.
There are plenty of titles that are OOP but may never go OOS at every single retailer, due to low demand. Also different retailsrs sell out of their existing stock at different times, which causes some people to forever claim an OOP title is not OOP just because one single retailer still carries it. That just means it's not OOS. Likewise, there are titles that may remain OOS for many months or years, yet the distributor may intend to produce more, so they're not technically OOP. I feel like knowing when something is OOP from the distributor is the most valuable, because then there's still time to snap it up when some retailers have it, before it vanishes entirely. Yes, there's a chance the title may never vanish entirely if it's super obscure and nobody wants it, regardless of whether it's OOP or not. However, in general, when a disc goes Out of Print it goes Out of Stock everywhere not long after. If a distributor then decides to press more discs, and bring a title back into print, it can always be removed from the list. Last edited by James Luckard; 09-28-2020 at 12:25 AM. |

I don't see any reason for people to not post stuff in the thread when it's confirmed to be OOP to give people a heads up to grab it before it dries up, but on the other hand, is it really that useful to members to wade through a list of 200+ Kino titles on the first page to try and figure out which OOP titles are actually hard to find/expensive and which can still be had for $4 on Kino's site?
I guess it's up to HD Goofnut to decide what gets added to the list, but I find the list more valuable when it's mostly stuff where the supply is actually dried up or will shortly. |

I trust HD Goofnut though, the list has been well maintained for quite a while now. Last edited by James Luckard; 09-28-2020 at 05:18 AM. |

Have no problem with titles shown as OOP that are out of print/production but not out of stock. This is an OOP thread and if it is important to many to have a way of knowing if an item is still available, then someone can create a thread to show titles that are OOP but not OOS. Threads are cheap!

The Kino going OOP page has been posted on and off in this thread for like 8 months now. There is no need to add every single title to the list. Way too much work and it clutters up the list so that it becomes much harder to find what you might be looking for.
If every single title that is OOP, no matter how obscure, gets put on the list, it will look like a huge mess. Discretion must be used, IMHO, and it looks like Goofnut has been doing that. Putting titles on the list that are still widely available does not make sense. |

Nothing about obscure don't count, and if they are in stock someplace then look elsewhere. The OP even talks about titles that are OOP but available. |

Either way, it seems silly to ignore titles that the company themselves have said are OOP in a thread dedicated to OOP titles. If we just want to go by what titles are rare and expensive in the aftermarket then that's fine, but then maybe the thread should be renamed Rare/ Hard to Find Titles, not OOP titles. Again, I guess it depends how you use this thread. To me, once a title has skyrocketed in price I don't really care about it, as I'm not going to pay those prices. I personally use this thread to find out about what titles will be rare and hard to find soon so I can snatch them up now. I guess it's a personal preference thing, but again, based on the title of the thread it seems silly to not add them. Last edited by spawningblue; 09-28-2020 at 01:41 PM. |

Here's a tip: Use Control-F to quickly "find" text on a loaded page. If you are looking for a specific title, that is much easier than scanning the list manually, and will also eliminate the impact on you of keeping the list as complete as possible.

Shout/Scream have 120 under their list right now and it's not very difficult to scroll by them (which is also missing a bunch of titles from their own OOP shop section) so having Kino with their 200+ OOP titles shouldn't be difficult either.

Yeah, there's a bunch that need added to the Shout/Scream Factory list as well. Again, to not add them because it will make the lists too big is kind of a silly reasoning. The lists will continue to get bigger as psychical media becomes more and more niche. It is what it is.

I would think far more users would want to scan through the list to see what has gone OOP, not to look for a specific title.

I guess a lot of folks will want Goofnut to add every single title on their page. After all, they are discontinued even though many titles will sit around for years because nobody wants them. |

It's like with Warner titles, where we have wbshop.com to tell us pretty definitively if a title is OOP if it gets removed completely from their listings. Unfortunately many studios don't have that, or there's foxconnect.com, which Disney took down. In those cases, we can only guess about what's OOP, once things dry up everywhere and start going for crazy prices. |
