No surprise. Sony's releases of recent made films are usually very good, just like Paramount. Even though the cover is crap, this looks like the definitive version to pick up.

Technically, the movie did get nominations. Albert Brooks was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama. I think It got something else also maybe?

I've seen a lot of movies this year and Drive is still up there as one of my favorites of the year. It should be getting a lot more recognition.

Every American award is a joke. If you actually care about film you shouldn't care about awards. International film festivals like Cannes, Venice, Karlovy Vary, hold a little more weight but still shouldn't have any effect on your perceptions of a film. Questioning Drive's quality because it wasn't nominated for a Golden Globe is laughable.

Carnage was my favorite film of 2011 and it won't receive any award show nods and I don't care.

You must be kidding aren't you. The cover is nice and simple, not as great as the posters but infinitely better than the US cover.

lol wait until you see the US cover if you think that's amateurish and really badly photoshopped.

Why wasn't True Grit nominated last year? Why give any weight to one group of people's opinion? Awards shows sometimes get it right but are for the most part a joke.

Hi all,

I was the Colorist on Drive. Very happy with all the positive feedback about the film.
It was very important to Nic that the Bluray presentation be perfect, so we spent a great deal of time and effort making the REC709 pass as flawless as possible.

Cheers

Tom

PS Always get a kick out of reading the Video quality section of the reviews (can't say I always agree), but a great site and a great resource.

#1. Golden Globes are an absolute joke award. Other than the free booze and after parties, I'm not sure why any serious film maker would show up. Notice a George Clooney film nominated in just about every category. I'm surprised that they didn't find a way to give Clooney a "best original song" nomination. The Globes are about getting as many celebrities in a room a possible.

#2. I wouldn't call the film "life changing", and I must highlight that I loved the film and it's one of my favs of '11, but expecting it to be "life changing" is only setting yourself up for a let down. I can't think of any film that was really "life changing." I remember when a co-worker told me that The Hangover was the funniest film ever, and when I saw it I was naturally unimpressed. I recommend going into Drive with as little expectations as possible—just sit back and enjoy it in for what it is.

Congratulations on the success of this film!

This is very much a mood movie, and the look of it goes a long way towards making it what it is. Great job Tom.

Yeah, the "life-changing" tag certainly won't apply to everyone, and thus I was only speaking about myself in that regard. It's sort of a combination of the vibe, the music, and the ideas that both conjure up. The milieu. It just happened to be in line with everything that I'm into and the stuff I think and daydream about on a regular basis. I've heard such a thing said by a few other people, but it won't be the case for everyone.

I guess just try not to let the Internet hype lead you into the film wondering what the big deal is. That "too much hype making you hate it" syndrome.

To be honest though, if you're in your early to mid-twenties, like electronic music and the sometimes carefree, existentialist feel of late 70s, and 80s films, music, sci-fi novel covers, and often enjoy the idea of road-trippin' it through the SW, or really just find solace (or perhaps have a romanticized view) of the quieter, chill moments in life...I think you'll really enjoy the film.

It wasn't a case of "this would be a cool movie to tug off and fawn over so I can seem cooler than everyone else." That's just how it hit me, and it was pretty undeniable.

Like, check this track out and think of what its album cover's mood suggests.

That's sort of where I'm at, or would like to be most of the time and that's where Drive took me.

Sorry for the derail.

If you are indeed who you say you are (hey, you never know, though this seems legit), then congrats and thanks! It's always appreciated when quality work is done on a release, especially on a high-quality film like this one.

I (finally) picked up the soundtrack album earlier this week and have been listening to it non-stop. I cannot wait for my steelbook to ship next weekend.

Given my avatar I obviously disagree; you have to know that awards are not the end-all-and-be-all, though. There's a prestige that comes with them, yes some more than others; and there are several different awards from and for several audiences: critics, professionals, 'the people'...these all have their own variances. By and large, the major American awards for film and the major International awards are looking at completely different criteria and films; and greater audience considerations do not come into play for those as they do for the major American awards.

For short, understand what the awards are 'awarding', take them for what they are and use them as avenues to explore, not the final word.

Finnish Blu-ray cover:

Looks like there aren't going to be any extras on the Finnish disc, though. Bummer. Still unsure which country's release to go for.

Anyone know if the US disc is region free?
