Kevin Smith seems to get mentioned a lot. I think he was just fine up through around Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, along with Clerks II. Perhaps his style might seem a bit dated or not as funny as people grow older and vice versa; it's an interesting dynamic. He's perhaps more interesting now for stuff like podcasts and speaking events in general as he's a pretty interesting and funny dude. A lot of writers seem to be 'stuck in their own head' introverts, but Smith is kind of the bubbly and extroverted exception. The Silent Bob/Teller kind of character is sort of amusing in this respect given how verbose he is. Great storyteller.

He seems like a pretty great guy, and I love to listen to him talk about films and different things. He seems like a guy you'd love to hang out with.

But I've just never enjoyed his films, even in his heyday. Perhaps I was already too old for them by then and just never 'got' him.
