You guys have to remember this Paramount deal was done with Viacom, Paramount's parent company. Paramount people were as surprised as every one else. The evidence is there. Paramount was cunducting normal operation as dual format with production of Baldes of Glory and other titles right up to when the plug was pulled. This deal went down fast. Any prior knowledge of what they were about to do would have resulted in them not wasting resources and money with the production of those Blu-ray tiles, including applying for bar codes and icn numbers for them and supplying retailers with all of this info.

Hello all,

I recently purchased a PS3 which I'm so far very pleased with. I had originally planned to get the upcoming Samsung Duo player - but given the price, I decided to go Blu-ray with the PS3 and wait on whether I would go HD DVD, also.
A week after I got my PS3, Paramount made the infamous announcement and it was very disappointing given the facts at hand about the formats.
Looking through the Paramount catalog, knowing that this doesn't include Spielberg's movies, doesn't actually cause that much concern to me.
Transformers, even though I enjoyed the movie, isn't essential to my collection. However, I'm a big Star Trek buff and have almost everything, the movies and most of the various series, on DVD. As Paramount controls Trek, too, that was a letdown. But then I'm thinking: I already have most of it on DVD - so now Paramount wants me to buy an HD DVD player on top of the price of getting it in HD. Well, they can forget about that. I won't be supporting HD DVD - I can wait 18 months for Paramount to wise up and realize they made a bad mistake.

Default They Suck

paramount or shall I say wimpylittlehill did a very dumb thing.

They totally screwed the consumer for a measly 150mil.

Without a payoff they wouldn't have gone exclusive.

Some people are going to get fired for this idiotic move.

Boycott paramount, which is a shame.

i wasnt worried at all.......but now with the Venturer announcement and the word going around of sub $150.......if the BDA doesnt have anything large planned for or preceding Cedia.........i dunno folks, i have a grim feeling that 40$MSRP Fox catelogs and a slim disney schedule planned through next fall may not work out too well.
the price is a rumour, and prices are the easiest to change. If BD feals the heat, like HD DVD is now, then they will drop the prices

Let's not buy Paramounts chicken, either. Just to be on the safe side. <Starts handing out pitch forks and torches>

i havent read any of the previous post on this thread, don't know if its mentioned, but if you have a ps3, it will upscale all regular DVD's, i did that with one of my old DVD's and it looks good, like it was in an HD format, so if the other Blu Ray players can upscale regular DVD's, then theres no real worry for the blu ray market, if its an HD-DVD exclusive, theres always the regular dvd,

I find it amazing how so many of you are ignorant to how business is done in the world.

You claim Microsoft paid of Parmount when Microsoft has publicy said they didn't. You still say they did. wow.

BUT, even if they did so what?!!! That type of stuff happens all the frickin time!!! Happens everyday of the week!!!!!!

Why do you think certain products only appear in certain stores, or certain games on certain systems. Certain furniture is only sold at a certain furniture. PAYOFFS! It's part of business ladies. You are just pissed off that it wasn't you that got the payoff. Don't blame ya I guess...

I don't have a clue why I'm bothering to respond to a clear troll, however:

There is a big difference between paying for someone to utilize your product and paying for someone to drop utilization of a competing product.

Your "Happens everyday of the week!!!!!!" examples are ALL of the former.

Oh so can I buy a new Paramount releases at certain stores?

When you figure out why Paramount's situation is different than the analogy you posted be sure to give us your insight on that.

He did.. .

Maybe they are being investigated for the anti-trust implications and that's why we are seeing so many trolls pop up lately claiming it's "normal".

Rumors have swirled since the news broke, suggesting that Paramount and DreamWorks are being heavily compensated for their exclusivity pact--to the tune of $50 million and $100 million, respectively. A Paramount spokesperson says only: " ... whenever we conduct co-marketing, production deals, or other agreements, we never discuss business terms."

I think you are the ignorant one. The New York Times released the pay-off info on the front page of their newspaper. They could be sued for more than 150 million if they falsified or lied about this.
Certain products appear in stores while others do not because they outsell the competition and therefore it behooves the retailer to use the available space for those items. This is clearly not the case as blu-ray disc sales are more than double hd-dvd sales. Check out the top 20 sales list for blu-ray and hd-dvd and you can see for yourself that the #20 blu-ray movie has sold more copies than hd-dvds #7 top seller.
You calls us ladies yet you are clearly the one who is thinking with your emotions and ignoring the logical facts. Just look at all the exclamation marks you used. Hey, are you the same person who did the leave Brittney Spears alone video?

Then there are people like me who bought the PS3 for its BD movie player capability only. My reasoning for the PS3 was two fold.[/COLOR]
1) It was highly rated and the most affordable player at the time.
2) If Blu-ray does not succeed it will still have value as a game console and will still play whatever movies I had bought. HD-DVD was in the lead at the time.

Guess my point is that the PS3 is going to be a tough bird to figure.

I sure hope this blowsup in their face.
Here here! Same reason I bought the PS3...
