Default Blu-ray: world’s largest ever high-definition showcases IFA, Berlin 2007

Blu-ray looking forward to IFA, Berlin 2007
This week see the start of the IFA exhibition in Berlin and the Blu-ray Association will be tagging one of the world’s largest ever high-definition showcases – we’ll be traveling to the show to find out more.

The Blu-ray camp believe this will be a milestone event in the establishment of Blu-ray as the high-definition replacement for DVD.

“These major trade shows provide us with the opportunity to demonstrate the significant advances that are being made in the BD format – in the breadth of hardware and software product that is available and also the continuing evolution of the format, especially in terms of BD-based interactivity,” said frank Simmons, chairman of the BDA European Promotions Committee.

The BDA is supporting and organising a series of Java Powered Blu-ray Disc Developer Forums, in association with Sun Microsystems. There’s already been a number of announcements from studios like Fox and Disney of Blu-ray releases that will feature the latest BD interactive features so these events are designed to provide developers the opportunity to learn more about the technology.

The BDA has also announced that IFA will represent its largest ever and most advanced exhibit of Blu-ray technology and products, spanning consumer hardware, IT systems and software.

Last year, many of Hollywood’s studio heads visited Berlin and shared the platform to answer questions. This year, the BDA will stage a similar press conference where leaders of hardware and software companies will discuss the format.
