Hey everyone.
I wanted to know if these titles on Blu-ray from Warner Home Video were sourced from 2K, 4K, 6K, or 8K restorations for their Blu-ray debuts. These are the titles: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I know it sounds crazy, but as a classic movie lover, I really would love to know from what kind of restorations these films were restored for Blu-ray. Plus, the first two titles mentioned (YANKEE DOODLE DANDY and THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES) are both currently on the 10th anniversary edition of the American Film Institute's List of the 100 Greatest American Movies of All Time (AN AMERICAN PARIS was on the original list in 1998). If anyone knows anything about these titles, I would really appreciate some help from you guys (I mean legit proof of what kind of transfers these are). Thanks for your time and patience. Please respond to this thread. P.S.: I also started a thread in which I ask everyone who believes that Criterion's Blu-ray version of THE LAST PICTURE SHOW (1971) should receive a standalone release. |

I can't give specific info, but not all of them will necessarily be even 2K.
2K implies a data transfer. It's not uncommon for back catalog titles to come from older video telecine transfers. Although, depending on the quality of the transfer, the difference in look between those and 2K scans is not necessarily night and day. |

Every film is scanned at different resolutions and from different sources. The majority of major studios are usually mum about what resolutions these are scanned at. WAC Blus are usually 2K IP scans or fine grain masters; occasionally they have done 4K scans (Night Moves and Sea Wolf). Besides what difference does it make at what resolution it’s worked at? WACs 2K scans are as high quality as 4K OCN scans. “The Last Picture Show” seems kind of irrelevant to the main question.
There’s also this thread with 4K or higher transfers on 35mm and/or 16mm https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=270798 Last edited by Dailyan; 07-20-2018 at 12:22 AM. |

To answer your question, Dailyan, it does make a difference to me about the transfers. I love classic movies, and 2K, 4K, 6K, and/or 8K are the best resolutions on Blu-ray for any kind of movie. Also, some reviews on Blu-ray.com for Warner Home Video titles mention what kind of resolution the films were restored in (for example: CITIZEN KANE, NORTH BY NORTHWEST, BEN-HUR, and WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?). For some odd reason, the reviews for the titles I'm asking about never mentioned anything about what kind of resolution was used for the restorations. |

No, I can't find it. A while ago Kino announced it & said it was a new 4K transfer, both on here & The Home Theatre Forum, but no release date as yet.
Ah, I found this: Kino thread 27337 The KL insider confirmed these at Home Theater Forum We'll go ahead and confirm the 4 Gary Cooper titles: The Lives of a Bengal Lancer (1935) Henry Hathaway - New 2K scan The General Died at Dawn (1936) Lewis Milestone - New 2K scan Bluebeard's Eight Wife (1938) Ernst Lubitsch Beau Geste (1939) William Wellman - New 4K scan Last edited by CinemaScope; 03-01-2019 at 06:34 PM. |
