My Learning. So think carefully when you pull the trigger for a Sony Z9D with with the LAST of the 3D. The very Last. For a high end Display.

Lesson.

I reciently brought an OPPO 203. It was Muched Loved by the AV Community. Got it for I believe $500.

They are disappearing. On Ebay now they are $1350 and up. Non refurbished.

Z9D is much loved by the AV Community. For high end TVs its the Last of the 3D's. I know. I a few months ago brought the last of the Lg 65 inch 3D G6 Signature displays. Now they are all gone.

If you love and wanna a 3D Sony Z9D. Pull your trigger timed-wisely before they are all gone. Think what happened to OPPO 203 prices as they all near sold up, sold out and after that.

Interesting.

Glad to know

Someone just picked up their 75” model from Best Buy (literally minutes ago). Checkout the AVSForums thread linked above for some upcoming impressions.

I'm not surprised Thomas is the first to purchase this, he's a pretty knowledgeable guy.

Thomasfxit at AVSforum said of his 75 inch Z9F
Quote:
You definitely have to pay attention but the zones bloom as the white square moves. I repeated the test 3 times and I think it’s 15 x 17 but I may be off. It’s close
Did Vicient of HDTVtest experience similar when his White Square moved around his tested Z9D?

How does that translate when watching a HDR10 disc movie like Arrival on the Z9F? This movie has lots Dark scenes along with high nits Bright scenes.

so, for the little information we got so far from the guy over at AVS who bought the tv. So far, the black bars are not totally black in bright scenes. Hard to notice unless you're really looking to see if there is. They do start to grey when sitting off axis. Little blooming on the bars with certain scenes, but again, not really that bad. Uniformity issues and DSE are basically non existent so far.

Zones, he thinks around 250-300 for the 75

Everyone's eyes different. So are their background experience and expectations.

Won't be too long:

Rtings.com

HDTVtest's Vincent.

Both will serve to complement Individual's own. Good Luck to all in a good and appropriate purchase

the guys ratings after one day

Uniformity and DSE: 10
OTB Color Accuracy: 10
Black Bar black level: 7-8 (changes with adjacent zone luminance but mostly fine IMO)
Off-axis color saturation: 9, impressive
Off-axis black level: 9, impressive
HDR highlights: 10
Overall HDR impression: 10 for DV
Built in sound: 9 (not relative to a AVR but rather to other built in systems)
Composite score for 4k, HDR movie display: 10+ (Find a better LCD)
Family room TV score: 10, it’s bright enough and will be awesome for sports
Bloom: 7-8 (nearly as good as the P75 which was very good)
The cinema motion processing works well: 8
Price:7 (that’s a high score for an expensive display but this is a really good one.
I haven’t really begun to work with settings. There so much processing available for this set.

The big achievement here by Sony is the virtual elimination of the LCD uniformity problem while delivering an outstanding performer for HDR. The color is so good, I’d almost be afraid to calibrate it.

Just scratching the surface. (All rating subject to change)

I have been following that topic as well and happened to see some viewing angle pics elsewhere as well: there is no way the viewing angle deserves a 9 for score. Maybe for an LCD tv but not in the overall tv world ... At best I would give it a 7 but probably slightly below that (without having seen it in the flesh of course). And that's based on my pretty generous tollerance levels for VA panel viewing angles*.
And until he puts up a video of the zone counter I'm not buying that 255 zone count either that has been bumped to 289 now (17x17; keep in mind this is the first time ever he is doing zone counts). Originally he counted 15x17, the German count was 13x8 so the 15 or 17 sounds like it could be correct. Then we have a big difference in the 17 vs 8 rows

@@@ E6Atmos my feelings...
I feel when we get a Z9F into our own home and compare it to our resident's best Display will we know on scales 1-10 WHAT WE THINK EVERY CATEGORY IS RATED by each us INDIVIDUALS

I mysef will be rating based on my 2 different OLED's.

When I purchase my Z9F I do not expect a 10 rating in every category. Only certain few categories and even those 10 I might compromise to accept a rating score 8.

I do want to see what Rtings and HDTVtest"s Vincent Teoh has to say. The Technical Experts views.

Note what TommyFxIt feels in the his Quote...
"it’s bright enough and will be awesome for sports
Bloom: 7-8 (nearly as good as the P75 which was very good)".

I gather his experience is with a Vizio P75 as his home TV and did his 1-10 ratings accordingly.

Well no display is perfect, and there are certain things like VRR support which would have been great for the z9f to have but unfortunately were not included.

That said, I'd consider any of the following as likely improvements over the z9d which would make it "better"
- 100% DCI P3 gamut coverage
- Significantly greater than 2000nit output and corresponding ability to fully resolve/map 4000nit content without clipping and while also maintaining EOTF accuracy from 0 to at least 150-200nits
- Significantly better viewing angles, lets say 45-50 degrees without degradation of black levels and significant color shift
- Pixel response time under 4ms 20/80 gray to gray and under 15-20ms full black to white
- less blooming
- native contrast 6000:1 or better*

Others might appreciate faster androidTV experience which is quite poor on the z9d but I use appleTV 4k so I don't care about that at all

Lucky Happy you.
Fantastic!

Me. I wanna hear what Sony is doing at CES 2019 in a very short few months. Where it will likely be a HDMI 2.1 Landscape this year. And Wanna with Hope to see a Sony A8F stand on a new model Z9F.

By then HDTVtest, Rtings and others would have reviewed the Z9F.

I can wait for We brought a 65 inch OLED a few months back. But our main TV Room needs a great new TV.

Wow Tommy. You Panny came out 6 years ago. Enjoy your Lots Technical Upgrade.

Z9D is not out of the question for our Family. We'll see which way Sony Technology takes our family.

Oct 4th-5th. Got Robert and them doing the break-in and Calibration. Wanted them to ship on the 1st because I'm pretty sure I can get the 4th and 5th off from work

So you guys will get a noobs (trying to get back into it) impression of the tv since I've only watched stuff on my ST50, my parents Plasma with had where the Blacks were crushed so bad. And there low to mid Samsung LED where...well, my TV is better.

lol, I remember watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Pt.2, the nighttime scene where Voldemort and his Death Eaters where all on the hill top looking at Hogwarts. I had to tell my parents their are people in this scene besides Voldemort because you couldn't see anyone. I feel like that should be a demo scene to see if your picture crushes

lol. Thanks

Back when I got my Plasma I remember telling myself I will never get an LED. It will be an OLED since OLED were basically replacing them. I got mine when the 60's came out so I got this from Sears for $1k. So the very next year, when the 60's and Plasmas period all left the stores (Well except HHgregg selling the Panny top model even though it had really bad burn in. You can see what they were showing before showing the hockey game. lol *great way to show it off*) I get this red line on my screen.

Panasonic sent people to look at it and it was the panel. They would have to completely replace it. Well, there were no more 50s so that was out of the question. Then I'm like, what about the 60's. No more 60s, but can get my money back and get a LED. I just laughed and said I'll keep it.
