After a test... I think you’re right. I’ve never experienced HDR like this. Sue me

mzupeman

click/expand some of the images and thumbnails pictures at bottom for what HDR looks like from a UHD Blu Ray Player.

at here
https://blog.son-video.com/en/2018/0...lu-ray-player/

Of cource the images are PQ intensified from viewing at home in your HT room.

Note campfire scene. With Bright specular highlights... Dark shadow shading details are preserved. Of cource black cinema bars are nice.

Guess so. Ill be keeping the TV afterall. I figure the zone lighting coming through as it does is something I can live with more than black crush or DSE on other sets... and the HDR IS NUTS. Truly life changing coming from the old Vizio.

Price Drop in 10-15 days. Really?

Gosh Goodness. My Z9D purchase at Best Buy/Magnolia has 30 days where the store will price match.

OK. Lets see a $1000 fall. Laughing with tears.

Reminds me of the 55X9005A. Spent £3.3K on it (and that was with staff discount!) only for it to drop by £700 just four weeks later. I know that shit happens but that really did annoy me greatly, I complained to Sony and they sent me £200 of vouchers.

I sort of went through a similar situation. In 2016 I bought a X940D at full launch price (which wasn't worth it btw), thinking it's the flagship model, only to find out a month later that the true flagship would be released later that year.

In the end (though 1,5 years later I might add), it all worked out for me eventually but still. That Z9D announcement back then really had me like WTF?! I was a little heart broken yes...

My VIZIO M65E1 didn’t last long in my house. Vizio loves clipping for some reason.

**and the HDR IS NUTS. Truly life changing coming from the old Vizio.**

I feel exactly the same way. I have the LG E6 OLED for over a year. Few months back I brought the LG G6 OLED. That G6 truly life changing for me. Vincent Toeh saids its worth every cent over the cost of the E6. Specular Bright Highlights to 732 Nits(note A8F OLED 700 Nits 10% window). I suspect G6 everybit as PQ Great as the Sony A9F.

By Next Weekend Best Buy/Magnolia should install my new Sony Z9D. Excited to see how it compares to my G6 OLED. Which I believe the G6 won Robert Zohns 2017 ShootOut.

I think half you LCD guys on this thread inclines to the Z9F if thinking of buying a new TV. Likely because of X-Wide...

The big question. How do Z9D DV disc playing compare to Z9F DV disc playing. Can the Z9F with DV disc keep up with DV's Specular Brightness and DV's grandness on high contrast ratio's Displays. I feel the Z9D can. See Z9D youtube playing DV Transformers: The Last Knight. I don't think Z9D misses a beat.

I have 20-30 DV UHD discs. Excited for the testings hours ahead.

When I get my TV (65in) at the end of the week I'll let you know what the calibrator put the settings at. Probably different than Rtings.

As far as people going on about Contrast at AVS, to me the new panel is fudging the numbers. It may he that low. But, with it that low and it's almost on par with the latest Oleds says something to me. One person saying there 2007 tv has better contast and all, but it probably doesn't look like this.

Here i am defending the tv before I get it.

Youve seen me talking over there Im sure but percetible contrast on my end is really good. The lighting in the bars is going to make or break this set for a lot of people but it does so many other things right. Great input lag response times for gaming and no visible DSE and picture is accurate otherwise and the operating system is snappy. Im pretty happy with my purchase and am coming to love it more by the day.

Oh I'm not saying you were saying crap about it, it's just others going on about it condemning the thing.

But like I said I'll let you know what the calibration settings the calibrator from Roberts put in whenever i get it. It may take me a while at first because i just got the Panasinic 820 player. Have no way to figure out proper settings on that until the t.v. comes in

For Best Living Room TV

For Best Home Theater TV

For Best HDR TV

ZF9 has its strength and weaknesses for each of the above categores.

One has to decide where at their home a Z9F will be placed.
Then by studying the subset rating results... Identify which values important for them. And buy accordingly.

Are you buying for a large Living room? With seatings at wide angles. Lots window lights. Lots news, sports, etc.

Are you buying for a HomeTheater room. Watch a lot of blu ray movies. 1080p, DVD. Movies, etc. HDR important too.

Are you buying for Preminum HDR Performance. HDR10. Dolby Vision. 4K UHD Movies. Specular Bright hightlights handling very very important. Darks, Shadow details very, very important. 4000 nit tone mapping very important.
Is Immersion very important for you... black bars, blooming.

So think where you plan to put a new TV. And in that environment What Subset Ratings with high score is a must have for your family.

These are the Expert Valued Results...
From their Experienced Two AV Eyes

https://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.ph...&id=1537850002

Understand peoples already owning a Preminum High End TV at home will have very critical eyes. Particular Objectives must be achieved if they going to have to spend $$THOUSANDS$$ of Dollars for another TV. Very Experienced High End TV Users have interest in 75 inch or larger. That can be some Big Bucks. Them buying the right Display is important to say the least.
Big Regret. The ShootOut did'nt judge for Dolby Vision Performance.

Cource many AV Experts and Experience Rich HT Enthusiasts knows OLEDs does Dolby Vision Intensely Well. A relm of high contrast ratio's. Deep Blacks.
Brights consistent with your TV room. And appropriate Specular Bright Hightlight levels with bright details well defined.

Im excited for HDTVtest Vincent Teoh's up-coming review of the Z9F. Hopefully too a Z9F comparison to Z9D, A9F as well.

Yeah that’s another thing to consider. This set allegedly tone maps in a way that produces details in highlights that should be above any television’s capabilities.

Z9F at a score rating of 58 by expert judges don't portend that. There are better Displays.

From a published Z9F review...
Quote:
Viewing HDR test sample scenes, it was evident that the Sony Z9F rendered proper tone mapped shade around the sun, where according to the test material, it was supposedly coded for 4,000 lumens. While the TV can’t go that bright, it was fairly well handled

4000 nit tone mapping At "Fairly Well" levels. By Expert ShootOut judges thats a score of only 58.

Versus...

From which I gather a nonExpert ShootOut's Judge view?
