Anyone with 20/20 vision can make a beautiful landscape look good. I think Peter Jackson is the worst director on the face of the earth. Different strokes I guess.....

Haha, worst director on the face of the earth? Tell that to the millions that enjoy his work. Apparently you must have had a stroke. You should get yourself checked out. Why even bother commenting about something that you say you don't care about? And not everyone that wields a camera can capture good images, it takes skill.

Well Christopher Tolkien from what i hear didnt like some of things that jackson did with the trilogy..which included putting a watered down ending to the return of the king

That's Hollywood for you. They make changes. Almost every book to video release is going to be different. Even Transformers was nothing like the classic. I for one enjoy the tie-in between the Hobbit and LOTR. The Hobbit was a great book, but slower than the trilogy. He took stories from other Tolkien works and intertwined them with the Hobbit. Sure, there will be things changed, but he wanted people to feel like they are going back to someplace familiar with the films.

There's no need for insults or making things personal, I just don't like the guys films and don't like his style of direction or storytelling. I think LOTR is a great technical achievement, but beyond that the writing is terrible & the acting abysmal (he's is AWFUL with actors in general) and while I enjoy them for what they are, they are the only films he's made I get any enjoyment out of and that is because of the story, nothing to do with him.

I will see The Hobbit because I love the story (sorry but the trailer looks boring as shit) but I'd have much preferred it if Del Torro had directed it, but seeing as Jackson seems unable to do anything else it was always a given that he'd be ousted.

I don't really care how many millions enjoy his work. Millions enjoy Michael Bays work!

I also don't like Speilberg, Scorcese, Fincher (tho his early stuff is amazing) or Nolan *shrug

If the book is slower then leave the boring shit out and make one movie, don't add stuff just so you can draw it out even longer. This is my main problem with Jackson, every movie he makes has to be 4 hours long and full of character 'development'. It's not a book, it's a film, they are 2 totally different mediums and what works in one doesn't always work in the other.

Look at the utterly dreadful additions he made in Kong for example. Kong would've been a brilliant film IF it was an hour and a half shorter. It did not need ANY of the crap he added and it would've been an excellent (and for a change well directed) film without it.

I wasn't aware he shot his own films, I thought that's what his camera man was hired for......

Being a fan of JJR Tolkien's books and the movies, the Hobbit 1 and 2 starting 2012 Winter and 2013, are on the top of my must see list. Especially the 3D versions. Smaug the Dragon should be in part 2, and should be quite a finale' to the film.

I wonder what it will be like trying to post convert the Lord of the Rings movies to 3D.... All of those troops would probably be handled layer by layer instead of individually. Quite an undertaking.

Off Topic:
Star Wars needs to step things up with the 3D instead of playing it safe and conservative. Otherwise, why not just watch the 2D version and be happy? Make the depth pop at least. This was all based on Lucas' final "Okay", when he approved on how much 3D depth he wanted in this first film with Darth Maul. Apparently he didn't want very much depth from the 3D preview I saw. Others will argue subtle 3D depth is a good thing. As in Tron Legacy. I rather have great "unmistakable" 3D depth instead of subtle "I think I can see a little 3D" depth.

I agree with you on SW. Episode 1 has so much potentials for 3D - pod racing, space battles, etc. I thought Lucas spent a few years on mastering the 3D but then gave the film to the company that converted other movies. That, to me, is the biggest let down. I hope the final product is better than what I saw in the trailer. I mean, they spent a lot of time converting this movie.

Next year will be another great year for 3D movies with more directors come aboard.

If people are incapable of having discussions with people who don't share the same opinion as them, maybe they should give discussion forums a miss

Don't join a discussion you do not care about. You said you would give this film a miss, then you said you would watch it. Hypocrite.

Yeah, it's nice to that more filmmakers are seeing 3D's value for the future of movies.

The Hobbit book has a lot of great moments for action, war, monsters and adventure, so it should definitely be on par with the Lord of the Rings movies in that regard. Both of these will be in 3D. I hope they got great depth.

---Off Topic:
I think for those who can't stand LOTR's movies, I'd imagine that if the slow dialog scenes were cut out, and it was all action and adventure, it'd be more appealling I'd guess. 3 hours is a long time to sit still, so I can understand why someone wouldn't want to see Aragorn speaking elvish with Liv Tyler during all of those romance scenes. Yes, there was a lot that could be cut out for pacing, but these are based on several books, each 500 pages or so, with a lot of content to consider adding or cutting for 3 hours each film. And the extended versions.
