They got it wrong, they posted the 4K edition twice, that's why they are identical, look at the reports below....

They are not the same disc. The bitrate on the 4K disc is more than double.

Both discs look virtually identical to me. A pretty pointless re-release if you ask me just like the M4K release of The Amazing Spider-Man.

Those screenshots are NOT identical. Slightly different brightness and look at the black bars moving.

Conclusion: Another point-less release from Sony, from such a recent movie. You won't see day and night there...

There's also the issue that the superior extended cut is not included.

Yep I know, but they did fix some hanging/skipping problems due the security that Sony always uses on their discs.

I don't get it. You just said you posted those smart phone pics to show color differences and now someone is basically getting heckled by mentioning the color differences?

I really like this movie too and I'm curious how much improvement can be made. The original version does have some apparent edge enhancement.

Whatever he posted them for, they are still smartphone pictures, and judging the quality of the disc by them is ludicrous.

I'm being tongue-in-cheek.

blu-21 and yourself have valid points, however, as has already been stated, I think people are putting waaaaaaay too much investment into a couple of quick point and click pics, to show that the palette had been changed, as opposed to any direct attempts to reference the actual colours. That's as close as I can get, so please accept room for error and wait for caps-a-holic to do their thing.

All the best.

Yeah waste of time on this one for PQ anyways. AQ seems more interesting, a upgrade to 24-bit and no codec problem. Would have bought it IF we got extended cut but not now.

Oddly, the MI4K version looks ever-so-marginally worse to me in those captures... and since I couldn't possibly care less about 24bit audio, this one looks pretty useless.
I haven't followed the Total Recall 2012 discussions, what is the audio codec problem with the original disc exactly?

Audio had dropouts on most AVRs if you didn't use PCM instead of Dolby TrueHD. So you could still get lossless just encoded different and for some it was a pain to change.

I got it yesterday as well and while I don't have a great tv (1080p 60ghz) It did look really good in most scenes. I'm happy with it. I never saw the original Blu either as the reviews were bad for it.
