Ridley Scott has said that the theatrical version is his director's cut. He turned down the opportunity to make an extended version of the film for the Blu-ray release, preferring to have the cut material included as deleted scenes. So, while an extended version isn't completely out of the question at some point in the future due to the fact that studios love double dips for more money, Scott seems opposed to it at this point.

I've ordered multiple 3D versions from Amazon for the past 2 months and none have had the slipcover. Has anyone got a slipcover on their 3D version from Amazon?
I've checked a few Best Buys but have only found a handful of 3D ones... and of course all were 'damaged'. |

The lack of a slipcover this long after release isn't unusual. If a slipcover is included, it's usually just the first batch or two of any given release. I wouldn't be surprised if more stores and sites start carrying the 3D version without the slip before long. |

If anyone just wants the bonus disc from the 3D version, someone is selling it on ebay for $3.49 shipped. They've sold over 100 so far and only have about 8 left. I won't link to them but just search for Promethus Blu-ray bonus and you should find it. They're totally legit, apparently they have a rental site so they just sell off the supplemental discs.

Great points Gremal. And yes, hopefully this opens up the eyes to the naysayers who only wanted an Alien "prequel." This movie does have a lot of depth and symbolism and meaning despite it's flaws in the storyline and technical details. |

Now one thing that I feel needs to be addressed is the motive to destroy the humans. In the movie, it's theorized that the engineers one day went from welcoming humans, to wanting to destroy them. I was just thinking about this, and I'm starting to think that they never welcomed us in the first place. I mean, think about it, they put cave painting in various parts of the world showing a certain constellation, seemingly as a welcoming to come join them. But in reality, they weren't welcoming humans to their home planet. No, those constellations were to their military experiment planet. The very same experiments that they were planning to send to earth. That's hardly a welcoming party. It's my theory that humans were created as an experiment, or part of some military project, just as the aliens were. I don't see any other reason why they would direct them to their military base rather than to their home planet. It's possible they created humans as test subjects with identical DNA to do alien-related testing on them, similar to how we do tests on animals for certain drugs, or military reasons. Another possibility is that they were creating us as an extension of their army division. A subservient species with similar DNA, whose sole purpose were to be in the front line of whatever wars they waged. That would make sense with the directives to go to the military planet. I definitely need to watch the movie again as I'm sure I'll get better clarity on some things. Last edited by MifuneFan; 01-28-2013 at 12:43 AM. |
