Thanks for your interpretations! What's your theory for why they were directing them to that planet rather than their home planet, unless you believe that was their home planet? or alternatively whether you think it was an invitation at all. Last edited by MifuneFan; 01-28-2013 at 01:26 AM. |

There was nothing in the film to show that the engineers had extended an invitation. That was Shaw and Hollaway's interpretation of the cave paintings. But I would say that pointing to one's place of origin is just that: showing where you came from. That's what Shaw and Hollaway were trying to discover, regardless of whether they were invited.

I think this is a story that needed a lot more time to tell.
Certainly not all the flaws/plot holes/open ends could simply be blamed on a lack of direction and shitty writing. The way the story unfolds has a lot to do with keeping the movie short, which clearly it shouldn't have been. I envision that whoever it was that made the decision to edit the story/movie to keep it within 2 hours, knowing full well a story like this needs damn near 4 hours must have had an agenda similar to Meredith Vickers. I remembered seeing all kinds of cool preview footage that showed Peter Wayland at TED, and David as a product being unwrapped and activated - yet somehow none of this ended up in the film. Pretty disappointing and makes me wonder what else might have been left out. Last edited by Youre My Boy Blu!; 02-24-2013 at 09:51 PM. |

The Visual Effects Oscar was essentially decided months ago. The big thing to remember is that if a film in that category is also nominated for Best Picture, that film typically wins the award. The voters are extremely predictable in this regard.

Saw it yesterday, was pretty good even if I heard a lot of people seem to be disapointed by it.
Granted I am not a big expert on the Alien series. I saw the first four movies maybe a few times each but never seen the AvsP nor the books or comics. So I had a few questions about the story maybe that would clear out a few things. At the start of the movie, [Show spoiler] I not sure I understood right but they mention that those tall Alien were just doing genetic testing on a grand scale, [Show spoiler] Again not being an expert here but [Show spoiler] In any case the movie was not bad, will look forward to see the sequel |
