I picked my up copy years ago. Nonetheless, this is good to know if you care about extras.

Absolutely, considering The Furious Gods documentary is one of the best making of pieces ever made.

Picked this up for $4.40 at HPB. I can't remember if I liked it or not when I first saw it.

Yeah, Prometheus is watchable enough (especially in 3D) and has some terrific extras which more than warrant inclusion in my collection, but where Alien remains vivid in memory, Prometheus just sort of fades into the ether.

Prometheus is super memorable and amazing visually. All its issues were in the script. Still a stunning, stunning looking sci-fi film.

I wouldn't argue that Prometheus is as technically and visually accomplished as any Ridley Scott film, and am on record in various threads saying every Scott film is worth seeing for those reasons alone. The problem is that after a masterpiece Iike Alien, any subsequent entry is virtually destined to pale by comparison. Scott returning to the franchise he made so memorable nearly 35 years later was bound to raise expectations and just as bound to disappoint most fans.

As I said, it's certainly watchable but the script is overreaching and problematic. There is not a single character to rival the iconic Ripley, and much as I like Michael Fassbender, his David isn't fit to lick Ian Holm's circuit board. The rest of the cast portraying the crew of the Nostromo are far more vivid than the two-dimensional cannon fodder crew of Prometheus.

Alien works beyond its stunning visuals, and is a legitimately intense and memorable experience which Prometheus simply can't match. It may well be unfair, but comparisons were inevitable, and it makes the shortcomings in Prometheus all the more acute.

It doesn't help that Prometheus has loads of red shirts too, so when they start getting killed by this and that I couldn't care less. Sure, even Aliens had a couple of marines who didn't get any face time (Crowe and Wierzbowski) but when the shit goes down in that movie I'm rapt because I care about these folks, mostly. Same for Alien, but Prometheus? It characterises them like we're in some chronically dumb slasher movie, i.e. they're mostly so thoroughly unlikeable and/or grossly negligent that's a blessed relief when they get offed.

The film looks incredible, no doubt, and for me Fassbender is the saving grace along with Idris Elba (though he can stick that ****ing accordion up his arse) but pretty visuals can only carry me so far with a script and a concept that as utterly muddled as Prometheus is. Fun but seriously flawed.

The cesarian scene, the opening sequence, David's activation of the holographic map, the discovery of the ampule room, the awakening of the Engineer, the holographic recording of the Engineer's escape two thousand years ago...

Yes, Prometheus is pretty vivid to me, too.

Better the second time around. But what is this extended cut? Anything worthwhile or is this just a cash-in of Prometheus 2?

That article was updated to say Ridley was not talking about extended cut of Prometheus. Not sure one exists for it.

Not important, but I hope they re-release Prometheus on blu-ray as Alien: Prometheus when they release Alien: Covenant, so that it doesn't offend my obsessive compulsive sensibilities and I can put it on the shelf with the other Alien films under "A" instead of under the "P's" with Predator.

Still, I always found it interesting that in the press gubbins for the home video release of Prometheus it kept referring to the film as the theatrical cut, like that needed differentiating for some reason. I truly hope that an extended version gets released to cash in on Covenant, and perhaps on UHD too: it'd be (even more) eye-meltingly gorgeous.

What we really need is a web-series of instructional safety videos highlighting the risk of touching unknown species, opening airtight sealed doors, accepting drinks from killer robots you called "Pinocchio" and poking things you really shouldn't.

It should co-star the dude from Prometheus and the chap from the new Life trailer.

"Hi, I'm Tom Hardy Logan Marshall-Green. I'm here today to talk to you about the dangers of interstellar travel, and I'm joined by my unfeeling, soulless android "friend" [in air quotes] David and my barren girlfriend Elizabeth."
