But if they were to go back to the camera files and raw VFX in order to create an extended cut (hint hint, Fox!) then they might as well redo the master in true 4K at the same time.
Ugh, can't wait for my boxes to get delivered so I can finally set up the 4K TV and give PacRim a spin. I'm thirsty for some 4K demo

I don't think we're gonna get an extended cut of Prometheus; if Ridley wanted it to happen it would've by now. I just wonder if Fox is gonna release the entire series on UHD before Covenant drops, or just Prometheus (or nothing at all, which would suck).

That would be awesome. I bet Alien and Aliens would look glorious in UHD.

I dunno, they knew that another Alien prequel thing was on the way so why not hold something back to cash in on the release of the new movie? The references to the movie being the 'Theatrical Cut' in the press release for the Prometheus Blu-rays has always struck me as a little odd.

I can't see a full UHD Alien box coming this early in UHD's life, and although Alien and Aliens got 4K remasters from Lowry in 2010 the other two are stuck with much older transfers. They don't look all the way bad but upscaling those for UHD would be poor form, and Fox should be advised against it (Universal have just done that for Bourne Identity, taking the 14-year-old HD telecine and upconverting it for UHD!).

That's why I refuse to buy the first three in UHD until they are properly remastered. I did get Jason Bourne in UHD though.

Even if there is an extended cut, Ridley made it pretty clear in the bonuses that he likes the theatrical. If Fox has another cut sitting on the shelf I doubt it'll be much of an improvement, if at all (though I'll still happily buy it ). Didn't they basically ask him to make another version of Alien so they could call it a directors cut even though it was just some gimmick to sell DVDs? As for the rest of the series -- the first two movies are all I care about. Alien already looks pretty much perfect in HD, I can only imagine how much better a UHD will look. Maybe they could release an Alien Compendium? lol

Didn't someone reinsert the deleted scenes on the BD into the theatrical cut on YouTube? I thought I remember seeing that a couple years ago.

Didn't know about that, sounds interesting. I mainly only care about the stuff with the Engineers, but since Covenant will probably shed more light on them anyway, I doubt Ridley/Fox would wanna put those or any other Engineer-related scenes back in. Let Prometheus remain vague so Covenant will have all (or most) the answers.

Right, but that's the thing: Ridley's permitted plenty of extended cuts which aren't his preferred version over the years, so Prometheus would simply be another one for the fire. As for Alien, Fox were going to release a 'kitchen sink' cut for the 20th anniversary which simply lumped in the deleted scenes and work was well along before Rid got wind of it and requested he be allowed to recut it himself, delivering that faster, funkier cut which I like quite a bit.

And I don't want any more Engineer stuff in Prometheus anyway, I want the other scenes with the humans which make them seem slightly less moronic.

His comments can be confusing as well. For Exodus he says at one point in the documentary that "you have to cut a film down" and defends the theatrical cut, yet later on he says he had a 3+ hour cut he "really loved" and that you have to cut things down for money reasons. So basically like any successful businessman, which he is, he double-speaks a bit. I'm sure if Fox handed him money and time he would make a longer cut.

All I know is that it better have that fiercely glossy plexiglass slipcover (like Warcraft & Winter's War) and not the run of the mill cardboard wrap.

Not sure that's possible without a complete rewrite and reshoot ...

Those are Universal. Prometheus would just have a normal slipcover, as per Fox's SOP (which is still better than their previous rule of having NO slipcovers.... *shudder*).

Not quite. I'm internally flailing my arms over my future disappointment in the mediocre 4K slipcover for Prometheus. If they somehow decide to go lenticular, however, with the engineer's face... I will literally shart myself to death.

Sassy.

Anyway, I don't know how to upload a picture properly. But this is a part of my Prometheus collection.
