lol The OC, I think I've only seen one episode and that's cuz it just happened to be on while I was in a waiting room. Something about them being trapped in a mall overnight, I think.

Yes, I know. But I'm not convinced Milburn was smoking anything.

Them two getting lost is still one of the most completely dunder-headed things about the movie. Even if they were 'under the influence' then that just returns us back to this being plotted out little better than some dumb slasher flick. Even the people who have sex have bad things happen to them...

It all makes sense now!

I'm generally a pleasant and positive person in my day-to-day life, and I try to lift people up without wishing ill on anyone.

That said, I was really really happy when certain characters in Prometheus ended up dead.

There's one character I really can't stand...that b*tch assisting Shaw with the rival of the engineer's severed head.

I was happy when she was put to "beddy bye's".

I also need to add how much it annoys me that Holloway just starts getting drunk as soon as they get back from the mound with the head after their first visit. I think Lindelof (or maybe Spaights) put these things in to try and make the characters more human but it just makes them seem really, really stupid.

I love Prometheus but there is so much about it that I hate lol.

I rewatched it last night followed by the deleted scenes and it is clear that Scott and his editor went overboard in the editing department and threw out poignant character moments. The whole middle section of the movie is still problematic and thinking about it, the scenes that did needed to get cut for me are the whole archeologist/biologist getting lost in the complex and attacked by snakes part. Including the redicilous attack at the ship later. It serves no purpose other than to provide some cheap horror/action sequences as well as counter editing for
[Show spoiler] Shaw's own horrific pregnancy
.

Prometheus in its current cut is so hectic and all over the place, nothing is allowed to breath. They showed in the extras the cool mural and the set design for the vases room, all of which is lost in the movie.

Charlise Theron's character serves no purpose other than to strut her ass around the ship. Granted, I'll watch that any day of the week, but in this movie she's apathetic to the quest and it is so unbelievable that the head of a company would herself go out in a spacesuit with a flame thrower to stop a sick person from entering. She would simply order someone to do it for her.
[Show spoiler]There is also no conflict between her and her father, missed opportunity.

In a nutshell, the worst offenders in this movie:
-Taking off the helmets
-Getting lost in a complex with a 3D map and technology to guide you
-Going to look for missing crew members and not bothering to check their last camera footage, also not having anyone on night shift to pick up their attack when the captain got distracted by Theron's ass.
-Allowing an infected person in the presence of a
[Show spoiler]gazillionair who made a space trip to sacrifice the last days of his life.

I'm giving a pass to Shaw's physcial prowess after having endured
[Show spoiler] squid removal surgery
but even this feels clunky due to the fast pace of editing. The med pod sequence to me is the John Hurt sequence of this movie and never fails to make me squint or turn away, the movie at least delivers with this memorable sequence.

I still admire Prometheus for its big scope, visual ideas and Fassbender/Rapace performances, but it's so hard to overlook obvious flaws with the movie that should have never been allowed to survive the final draft.

I agree with everything you've said really, the movie needed a bit more room to breathe. The 2nd half is an editing and pacing mess. The movie is in such a rush to get to the finale and fit it all in under two hours and it really hurts the movie. I had always hoped we'd get that extended cut but even now with the release of Covenant on the horizon it doesn't seem to be happening. Big shame and missed opportunity.

I actually don't think I ever watched the deleted scenes (I usually don't). Might need to check those out.

There are a lot of deleted scenes that should've stayed in the movie. Like the replaced scene where a sulking Holloway gets drunk, insults Shaw, gets slapped in the face and then they have sex. It's much better and more explanatory than the scene we got instead. Or the first time Milburn finds an alien worm, which explains his enthousiasm towards the snake alien a bit more. Or the part where Shaw reacts more agressively to a beheaded David. The engineer looking in wonder at the things in the crashed escape pod. The extra question David asks the engineer, before he rips off his head... So many good scenes that got trimmed to keep it under 2 hours.

why did it have to be 2 hours though?. IS it because it's an R rated film. Seems dumb to me. Those scenes were great.

No, it's a standard running time for movies. Something the studio demands. They try to keep it under two hours unless it's absolutely impossible, probably to attract a bigger audience. Not everyone has the patience to sit through a three hour movie in the cinema, especially the younger crowd.

That's not the reasons why studios demand certain running times. Otherwise there wouldn't be so many superhero movies which run close to three hours. The reason why studios sometimes set a contractual limit on running time is so they can get in enough screenings into a day. Once a film exceeds 2.5 hours they will have to drop one screening.

However in this case Scott trimmed those scenes himself for pacing reasons. He rejected doing a director's cut for the DVD/BD because he regards the theatrical cut his definitive version of Prometheus.
