Judges scores are the only ones I care about. Congrats to Sony for finally dethroning LG.

Paul, I couldn’t watch the entire event. Did they ever simulate conditions for viewing something like a football game in the afternoon in one’s family room where there is a lot of ambient light? If so, did the room get very bright? All I saw was testing content for relatively dark room conditions.

b.t.w., make sure to check you know where, as my wife just informed me that 2 more stepped forward!

I only watched small portions of this, it was just too long and the 720p fixed camera feed really did not show enough detail to keep me interested plus large portions of what I did watch was very dark. I am sure if I was there it would have been much more interesting.

How bout that Tiger Woods snagging numero 80! That was something. I know you'll be staying up and busting out the fancy tequila for the 2am ET start time of the Ryder Cup this Friday.

Here's the link to the full unedited video of today's TV Shootout. Yes, it's long, but the attendees loved it, all 6 hours.

I would be tempted to get a 77" OLED for the main room if it weren't for the possibility of Burn-in. I can't take a chance.

My Best Buy store just pulled down a 55" Sony OLED for burn-in. They hope Sony replaces it with a Z9F.

Unless you leave the TV on almost all day with static content (example leaving on a news channel all day with the logo or ticker) burn in is really not likely to happen. Burn in is really only an issue for a small minority of people, for the vast majority it is not something to be overly concerned about.

That's my wife.

She'll turn on the TV to HGTV where it's on all day as she works in the house and she'll leave it on as she leaves the house to keep her dog entertained.

Yes, there will be burn in with the HGTV logo that's on the lower, right side of the set.

Burn in can happen to any TV. No matter if CRT/LCD/LED/OLED/Plasma.

When few hobbyists were even aware their existence, good to see you took my original advice to heart a couple years back as to renting a BVM-X300 as a reference guide for your shootouts, from whichever facility -

I was there and IMO, the LG and the two Sony's were very, very close. I wouldn't worry too much about the fractional point differences. Each set did better on some tests and were worse on others. The Samsung completely failed on that nighttime, completely desaturated Harry Potter scene. The picture kept disappearing. The LG did tend to be slightly green on some tests (even some white titles went green), which is why I think the Sony came out ahead, but on much real world movie video, the LG and two Sony's looked incredibly alike. As one of the speakers pointed out before the tests, if the sets had been in different rooms and one was running back and forth between them, you probably wouldn't have been able to detect much of a difference. That wouldn't have been true even two years ago. (After calibration).

One note: IMO, all of the sets did a really lousy job upscaling the football feed. I thought that looked incredibly horrible, far worse than on my 7-year-old Sony HX929. Of course we were sitting really close, much closer than in a typical living room and I don't know if there was an issue with the source feed.

Robert should be congratulated for having this event. When you're there you begin to realize just how much work goes into putting it together each year. Quite remarkable for a single, independent dealership and it's why, IMO, his store deserves a lot of support, especially if you're in the area.

what were your thoughts on the Z9? were the grey bars that noticeable? or was it, its kind of there. You wouldn't really notice unless looking for it
