Could be a way to unload those older titles. People don't ONLY buy TT titles in a given month though. Other labels releasing other titles as well which may cause many people to pass on this signing.

But we'll see if this promo moves considering it's The Blob.
What they seem to be losing sight of is that this sort of thing really only benefits customers who have a large backlog of TT titles to buy. Someone who's been keeping up with what titles they want is going to have a hard time coming up with enough to buy in order to get the free promo. No doubt, they're hoping that long-time customers will end up buying titles that they're not overly excited about in order to get the promo, but even then, that'll work for maybe a couple of offers.

Now, with all of the problems regarding quick sell-outs of the promos on pre-order days, it was still reasonably easy for a lot of people to order at least four titles in order to qualify for the promo. I suspect that what's going to happen going forward is that more people won't pre-order new titles right away, in order to build up a list of ones to get when the promo offers come up. All it will really take is more people realizing that most titles won't sell out within a month, so they can take their time buying them.

Is there a master list of TT Autograph editions? I'm pretty sure a couple of other sellouts had autographed copies though they didn't sell out until well after the autographed copies were available.
Sorry, I had not realized that. So, if they did this with Fright Night then there would actually be 5100 copies of the 30th anniversary release in circulation then. If these promotional copies are in addition to the 3000/5000 copies which are to be sold then I cannot criticize this then.

Instead of $150+ all at once, maybe they should have some kind of loyalty scheme like Criterion, where once you buy a certain amount (Criterion is $500) you can get a stocked autographed copy for free. That way at least people aren't shelling out at the one time, which can be difficult for some folks - even if there are 6 titles you want.

See the link in my sig below.

I wasn't around at the time, but it seems to me that the extra copies of Fright Night that were available after it "sold out" were copies from transactions that ended up being cancelled for one reason or another. The copies that Tom Holland signed and offered on eBay were, I believe, copies that were allocated to him at the outset (like authors getting a set number of copies of their books from the publisher to give out to friends and relatives).

Of course, the other thing is that we'll never know for sure (unless Nick or Brian or Julie make a statement to the fact) whether a sold out title actually means 3000 copies sold. All we really know is that their contract for a given title allows for an "edition" of 3000. There's bound to be some overage for replacements of copies gone missing in the mail or defects, but the 3000 copies might actually include a number of copies set aside for other purposes.

That would be really nice if they did that and hopefully TT will consider doing something like this in the future.

I also hope they do another sale again. I hit that sale twice and would buy again.

The promo is a good deal at $100 plus of TT product. At $150 the promo is not really that good of a deal. The only real reason to hit this one is to get your hands on a coveted title that is OOP.

I totally agree...I keep up with the Titles and I couldn't come up with six, and I certainly wouldn't want to buy Titles I don't want just to get the promo, and I'm going to do exactly what You suggested....I'm not going to pre-order Titles right away and just build up 6 and wait for the next promo. Actually I was starting to do that already last month, I just made sure to pick up a Copy of Fright Night since I knew it would sell out quickly.

I buy a lot from Criterion.com, but I haven't heard of that. All I know is you get $50 credit for every $500 you spend. Is this in lieu of that and how can I get more info on which autographed movies they have in stock?

Glad I don't care about autographs.

I do think holding back 100 Blobs is a little sketchy, but the whole "limited to 5,000" thing is sketch in the first place anyway. Once you buy into that you buy into all of it.

Actually, the signed editions of "Fright Night" (the earlier 2011 edition) were made available as promos before the unsigned ones sold out. I remember buying 4 copies of the unsigned Fright Night just to get a free signed one. In fact, you could buy 20 unsigned Fright Nights and get 5 free signed ones. There were no limits back then. I felt stupid buying multiples to get a signed one back then, especially since a good amount of people were *****ing about the $30 price tag to begin with, but it really paid off in the end.

The Tom Holland signed ones that showed up on ebay a couple of years later were probably just a stash TT gave him a while back, he knew of the rerelease coming, so he signed them quick and sold them himself for some quick personal profit. And I can bet there will be another signed promo edition for this 30th version.

That's kind of the point. It's a promo to get people to buy stuff. I've you are one of those people who have been buying all of the titles each and every month then you don't really need any prompting to buy more do you? They offer these promos because they're hoping that a free movie signed by the director is a juicy enough enticement to get you to pull out your credit card and buy some product. That's likely one of the reasons they moved the promos away from pre-order day as they were probably being snapped up by the regulars buying all the new stuff and weren't really helping to get rid of old stock.

I could probably come up with 6 titles I want from their back catalog, but I certainly don't want to come up with $180 to pay for them.

Yeah, I was looking forward to the promo too, but $180 is too much for me right now, partly because I'm in Canada and that actually works out to well over $200 in my money, plus I just bought a bunch of titles from JB Hi-Fi's 2 for $20 / 20% off sale and, holy crap, the shipping costs from Australia just killed me.

Besides, I see another feeding frenzy because it's the Blob.

I have six titles in my cart, now let's see whether this one lasts long enough for me to buy.

This has been discussed many times before with these signed promos: these are not from the stock that they get to sell, they are from the overprint stock that exists to give out as screeners/free copies/replace faulty copies/etc. They are not contractually allowed to sell these extra copies, as they are above the 5,000 allotment, which is why they are given away as a promotion for buying copies of other films.

That's good to hear. Hopefully they will revert to $100 in the future. I can see raising the limit though as a one time deal on a sold out title.

This is what they used to call "highway robbery". I guess customers have afforded TT the right at this point.

They could make it you that you get a free autographed title, or a free copy of any other title. It might help take the sting out of the $30 price tag if you know you're getting a free one somewhere down the line.
