Some older Panasonic models will output 50Hz content directly, though not convert it:

There may be others as well.

I don't know about 1080i, but they won't play the video (only the audio) for R2 PAL SD content. Apparently the Arrow disc of Rififi doesn't play, but otherwise I'm 44/44 on Region B Arrow discs on my 220.
I haven't gotten an All-Region Blu-ray player yet because, luckily, most everything I want has been released here in the States, but there are a few titles in the UK and France I'd like to get and view, but still not many to make it worthwhile. Still, I look. One of the best places on the web I've found for finding All-Region players is Bombayelectronics.com

You have to be so careful in selecting your player, though. You want to be able to play everything, not just Blu-rays, so make sure it's all-region for DVDs too, and then make sure the player has a built-in convertor for PAL to NTSC out for DVDs, or the reverse depending on where you are. Rather than Panasonic, Sony players seem to be the best in this department, though I don't know why? As I've said, I have yet to get one but I think it won't be long now.

Yep, I bought one from Bombay Electronics, a Sony S3200, and it works fabulously. You can update the firmware without worrying as well.

Just about 24 hours to go......can't wait to get my order in! I like ordering on the last Wednesday of the month. Less time to wait to get the movies.

I wanted to ask something if anyone knows:
Is it possible to pre-order today 2 Blurays to secure a copy, and update my order (before these are shipped) with 1-2 more in 1-2 weeks?

No. Orders cannot be updated. To add titles, you'll have to place a new order. To subtract a title or two, you'll have to cancel the existing order.

I had to make an adjustment to an order a while back and when I contacted SAE, Ed just up and cancelled the order and I had to do the whole thing over again.

Which probably won't work if one or more of the titles sells out. If that happens you won't be able to order it again.

I don't see these 5000 copy titles selling out within 2 weeks. I would be very surprised if that happens (and so would TT too I think). If they were selling at $20 then yes, but the $30 price keeps a lot a people at bay.

Speaking of 5000 copy titles, Fright Night was supposedly 5000 sold by SAE but then Tom Holland was also given (or sold) over 300 copies so he could sell autographed copies on his new site and on ebay. Pretty lame when you can get around the limit by selling autographs while jacking up the price street value on the movie itself as well.

So this would technically be a 5300 print run, or did SAE only sell 4700 copies to begin with?

In fact, on Facebook, they said in response to a question:

Quote:
Twilight Time DVD Label We are not expecting FN levels of intensity, but we are anticipating the 2 genre titles to be pretty popular based on the level of correspondence regarding them.
Which is undoubtedly why they upped the copy count to 5000.

Was it ever said that SAE actually sold 5000 copies? I mean, we know that normally TCM Shop gets some number of copies of each title (thought I don't know if they ever got any of the Fright Night reissue), so SAE pretty much never sells a full 3000 copies of those titles.

I know that Holland had a select number of copies of the original release that he signed and sold through eBay. It's no surprise that the same thing happened this time, though I hadn't heard it before, and I'm surprised that it's that many copies this time around.

Who cares? Better the creator of the film get a little extra profits than some nobody scalper. The sad reality is getting those extra copies might be the only way he gets any money out of the blu-ray at all, and even then the amount is hardly going to support a lifestyle (i.e. the guy might not be a multi-millionare, a few thousand might be useful to him).

What happens if you place an order and you get your disc and its damaged or bad and then suddenly they sell out? Does TT keep any stock for returns?

I don't mind selling autographs on ebay or wherever. But if 5000 copies were already sold through SAE/TCM, then having him sell another 300+ copies on the side kind of undermines the 5000 copy limit thing. What if he received 1000 copies to sel instead of 300+, which would be allowed under the guise of selling autographs only while "giving" the movie away? And if SAE/TCM really only sold 4700 copies, then it's even worse, because setting aside 300 copies for scalping purposes pretty much promotes it. In any case this all shows that TT doesn't mind scalpers at all. So yeah, I care (and so did you by responding to my post).

I believe that if a disc is sold out and you need to do an exchange you will be out of luck. My Fright Night case arrived damaged but Screen Archives did have extra clear cases to send out so that was good. Luckily my disc was fine.

Really? I thought they set aside discs as replacements for that sort of thing. When I had a damaged disc that they replaced, they sent the disc only (it wasn't an OOP title). I hardly think they would have ripped open a case and pulled the disc out to do that.

My mistake. I do hope they would set aside a certain number of discs to have as replacements for a little while at least.
