Watched the BD of "Fat City" tonight. Damn is that a great film. Stacy Keach's performance in that is one of the most authentic, perfectly realized that I've ever seen. It's a very downbeat film, as it thoroughly explores the bleak realities of the characters, but a masterpiece. Susan Tyrrell's performance as Keach's hopeless alcoholic love interest is also really special. Those two are the core of the film, along with Leonard Gardner's brilliant adaptation of his novel and John Huston's typically great direction. A young Jeff Bridges gives a solid performance, but true to the film's authenticity, he and Keach never develop that cliched mentor-protege relationship that films often depict, but instead kind of drift and casually run into one another periodically, as humans tend to do in real life. It's an absolutely brilliant film, one of the lesser-seen gems of the New Hollywood era.

Yeah, it's a shame they left because of a jerk or two. There's nothing we can do to avoid some jerks coming to the site until they act like a jerk.

Thanks for releasing wonderful titles on Blu-ray, TT! I have at least 96 Blu-rays of yours so far, and 8 more are coming to reach the milestone. But it won't stop there. Will keep buying as long as you're releasing

Sad to see you go, but hope you come back someday! Thanks again!!

Sad to see Twilight Time on a hiatus from this thread due to hurtful comments. It's always nice to have an company insider on this site so we help them and give them tips on what we want on their releases.
So long Twilight Time, it's always sad when night settles in.

I spoke to them over on Facebook, expressing my regret, but they're fed up.
I've seen a lot of this on a music forum I belong to.
Major recording artists, just as nice as they can be, answering all questions, openly, and honestly, and then the attacks begin.
They leave, and NEVER return.
Sad.

Totally agree. I rented this from my local library and it stayed with me for so long that I had to buy it from SAE, during their last sale in December. It is an undiscovered gem of a film. Yes it is bleak and the characters are depressing, but yet you want to revisit it. Sort of like Streetcar Named Desire, you know these people are sad/crazy but the acting is top notch and your just mesmerized watching them. I had the same reaction with The Last Detail (should be delivered tomorrow). Two excellent films!

Honestly, I can't blame them for leaving. Look at it from their perspective: Start a company to release beloved movies in high def that have little chance of release and set a price and print run that makes your company sustainable so that you can continue to release films for the forseeable future. Have people constantly complain about the limited stock and price. Provide a sale twice per year where most titles are much cheaper, effectively making the profit margin marginal to none and have people complain because some of the titles that they want aren't on sale. Re-release a few older out-of-print films that were sold before many people knew about the company and have people complain that they aren't re-releasing more or that now somehow their original copy is worth less because now there's more stock. Go through the trouble of doing other restoration work on the films, make a nice booklet with a film essay and alternate artwork, include an isolated score track, sometimes a nice new commentary...and have people complain because the extras they want created don't exist or aren't carried over from an older dvd (because they require more $$ to license).

Provide a sale once a month where you provide an autographed copy of a film for free when 4 other titles are purchased and have people complain because either the person signing isn't someone they like or because they feel the price criteria is still too high. License films and inform your fans two months in advance about what's coming down the pipeline and have people complain because there's not enough horror, or not enough from the 80s, or the 50s, or obscure titles that only 10 people in the world know about. And on, and on, and on.

Finally, when you briefly mention that there are companies out there ripping off content that took time and finances to produce, some people just respond with "Eh, you're ripping people off with your prices, so who cares?"

While I love their sales and pick up stuff I need to fill in gaps, I still make an effort to buy titles I'm particularly excited about at full price. TT is not becoming rich off of these blu-rays. They make a living and stay in business because they genuinely love film and believe it deserves a chance to be available in the best quality currently available (most of these films will never receive a $1 million + restoration).

Got a shipping notification from SAE for Cutter's Way and Chato's Land. With so much being released these days I'd actually forgotten I ordered these so that was a pleasant surprise.

That's funny, because, when I received Cutter's Way and Chato's Land in the mail on Monday, my first thought was, "I ordered these? Oh yeah, that's right, I did order them."

There's a word for the most severe phase of addiction, but I've forgotten the exact word. Whatever it is, I'm pretty sure that I'm there.

Twilight Time is such a "terrible" label that I've bought over 50 of their releases.

I just recently became a proud TT owner with The Last Detail and then Cutter's Way and the encore edition of Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. I am very happy with all 3 purchases.

And so CAT BALLOU will be mine soon!!!!

And PANIC IN NEEDLE PARK, and HARDCORE and Warren Freakin' Oates in ALFREDO GARCIA

Reader's Digest Condensed Version? A certain idiot who trolls this thread frequently (name rhymes with "Trick Fee") made a snarky remark directed at "Twilight Time Insider", who then explained that they're leaving the thread and the site, and advised folks who want updates to check their Facebook page.

The idiot in question is now banned. Much thanks to Blu Titan for getting rid of him.

I'm gonna go "glass is half-full" here. While I, too, am sad that Twilight Time Insider has left the thread, the IQ of this thread has risen considerably since the banned idiot's departure.

Trollers gonna troll. Really, it's a fact of internet life -- sad, pathetic losers who get their jollies "stirring the pot" in public forums. Good riddance!

Having said that, if a person is acting, either officially or unofficially, as the public representative of a business, they need to have thicker skin than that. I hope Twilight Time comes back, but if he/she doesn't, it's their loss as much as ours.

I just looked, and I've got 88 Twilight Time Blu-ray releases. Wow...

I've even watched most of them as well.

(I've got an alarming number of Blu-rays on my still-unwatched list. I swear that I'm going to get around to watching Judgment at Nuremberg and Birdman of Alcatraz soon. I promise. I mean, I only bought them, like, two years ago or something.)

I've got a crap load I still need to watch but I found that it's a dangerous game letting them sit there. I happened to watch The Lady Vanishes upon receiving it the other day and it froze on me (defective disc). If I would of put it in my unwatched pile and watched it a few months down the road, I would have to of purchased a new copy again. Now I tend to watch my "high priced" blus right away.

I love TT but when a title is sold out and they've made clear that no re-release is coming, it would be nice to know another company has the option to do a release themselves.
Enemy Mine is already being released by someone else https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01D7A2AHK?...I30B1UUE9JHDHO

You can still get The Fury affordably from secondary sellers on eBay. I bought a sealed copy for $40 shipped a couple of weeks ago and there were a few available.

I have 58 (including the 7 that the USPS tells me should arrive by Friday).

I'd have a lot more if it wasn't for for pesky Criterions and Cohens and Cinema Guilds and WACs and Kino Lorber Studio Classics and the occasional major studio releases that all reach out and grab me by the throat and demand that I buy them now.
