OK, so answer me this: what's the rationale behind wondering what other people choose to collect and why? What difference does it make to you? You say that you would "genuinely like to learn their reason(s)". So why not just ask them directly, instead of making a snarky aside. Or do you think questioning someone's "rationale" isn't snarky?

My feathers aren't ruffled. I'd genuinely like to learn why it matters to you.

I often ask myself why people are interested in getting this or that. But why they do has nothing to do with me, so I don't bother to ask them.

Great film. There's always the Arrow release from the UK. One look at Connery in this getup is surely enough to make anyone go region-free...

The one film that no-one ever gave Burt Reynolds grief for dropping out of. And that's not even Connery's most interesting outfit:

Went with a second sale order:

This might be my last TT-direct order. I still have a few in-print TT wishlist titles I want to knock out but I’ll have to order at SAE due to them having “The Detective”. I also threw in “Raw Deal” because I had seen a lot of praise on the forums.

What's the rationale behind telling other people what you collect? If one is going to volunteer that information, then they should in all fairness be prepared for any number of questions. My question, as we've established, has just as much merit as all of the ones that have arisen due to he/she posting pics of his/her entire TT collection.

How about you just remove your deputy star and let the poster in question answer? I'll happily oblige you by remaining on this carousel, even if only one us can see the folly of taking offense to something that had nothing to do with him/her.

Of course, your question wasn't asked of the person who posted the pictures of his Twilight Time collection (HINDIBLUERAY). You asked the question in response to someone else (Dollar Colonel). Actually, no. No, you didn't ask a question. You just said that you were interested in knowing something. But as I said, if you wanted to know that, you could've just asked him. But you didn't.

But to answer your "question", "the rationale behind telling other people what you collect" is that he's showing his collection of Twilight Time releases in a thread about Twilight Time releases. I would think the connection would be obvious. Isn't the whole point of any of us being in this thread to talk about collecting TT releases?

You're just being silly. I'm not trying to play deputy. If you want him to answer you, maybe you should start by actually asking him directly?

I have many of the titles and honestly would like to have all aside from the musicals and a few films like Baby Boom and 9-5. I’d take them but currently don’t feel a need. My rationale? In this age where we have access to these films, I want to snag them as many might only get this release and paying retail or sale price is far better than 3rd party on eBay or at a few used shops. I was 27 the first time I saw a Charles Bronson film. That’s just an example, Sweeney Todd (Depp) was my first musical aside from kids musicals in school. For financial reasons, living in small podunk towns, and having a rather backwoods family, I had limited access to film aside for what we could get at a local 6 screen Regal. These boutique labels are my only hope of really seeing any non mainstream film. With a ever expanding view of film, I wish I could see all movies. Finally, I live in FL, internet is less reliable than a Yugo. Will I sell what I don’t like? Not unless I loathe the film, as my tastes change. It’s worth the risk to expand my horizons.

No doubt, there's surely something for everyone in the TT catalog. But we're talking about one person with every single title, so I was just as curious as the other guy on here, is it simply for completest/collectors mentality sake or do they truly find value in every single one? I own a whopping 7, and just bought 5 more from the sale, they were the only other TT titles that appealed to me and 4 out of those 5 are blind buys. I'm not complaining mind you, boutique labels like TT need all the help we can give them, I was just genuinely curious.

I know there are a number of posters here who have all or most of the TT titles.

Some of it in completionist mentality, some of it was to have titles that were available that you either liked or might like (esp in the earlier days where sell outs were fairly frequent), some to access movies you might never have heard of that NOBODY was going to touch. Many of the purchased questionable titles were just to support a label that was trying to do something unique and fund a future set of releases that might be more on the nose. Nick and Julie's commentaries were amazingly and consistently entertaining and educational, the isolated soundtrack were a big draw for many others - so in many ways they were unique

What a moronic strawman to construct for the simple sake of injecting an utterly pointless argument with artificial life. YOU knew who my question was for and, based on his (insipid) response, the poster in question is not lacking in basic thread following skills.

I'll reiterate, if a person is going to gloat about owning every TT title, then inquiring WHY they felt compelled to purchase every TT title, especially with cheaper and/or superior editions out there, is not only valid, it's completely relevant in the TT thread.

We both know the real reason you've kept up this charade, deputy, but since you're so rankled on behalf of another user I can't even comprehend you giving a cogent reason as to why you've also felt the need to hoard nearly every TT title.

Don't like my inquisitiveness or posting etiquette, too damn bad; put me on Ignore. It sounds like your life will be much easier

I think it's futile to even look for a cogent reason as to why people want to buy everything released by a certain label. There are folks who also do that for Criterion, Vinegar Syndrome or Scream Factory. Certainly not something I'd want to spend all my money on, but the collectors mentality sometimes has its quirks.

I can agree with this, but collecting for the sake of being a completist bleeds into what I call the "hoarder's mentality". Collectors are discerning in what they buy, hoarders aren't.

I wouldn't say that's necessarily true. It's entirely possible that he is discerning in that he only buys Twilight Time titles because he believes in the quality of their product and as such was willing to not only buy the movies he was familiar with, but also to blind buy releases he wasn't familiar with.

The concept of people collecting things and "gotta get 'em all" isn't new, people have been doing it all the time. Why do Star Wars fans want to collect all of the action figures? Why do comic book collectors need to own every single issue of Superman? Hardly logical things to be doing, is it?

For whatever reason he likes Twilight Time and wants to buy every one of their releases, I don't think we need to scratch beneath the surface a whole lot on that one.

Yup. all them people that exchanged baseball cards or bought more packages to try and complete a set were just hoarders. Thousands and thousands of hoarders, oh no. Will there ever be anyone that only buys what they discern to be necessary? I have stamps I bought back in the 50s and 60s that were bought to complete a set. They went in my Stamp Collector's book. Never saw a Stamp Hoarders book for sale, but that is your opinion, not everyone's.

I do not feel attacked nor is this response meant to be an attack or being defensive. Collecting has never Given me a sense of accomplishment. Collecting a story is the only thing I truly work towards. (Completing Punisher Max or Watchmen, short runs, I’d never dare try to be complete in long runs or even brands) I can no longer race cars so I now apply some of that budget to movies, books, music and some video games. Nobody I know is happy with my collection, my wife detests movies, music, games, and anything that isn’t Facebook or YouTube BS. My son likes that I have Scooby and Disney but he’d be fine watching repeats on Netflix. My father in law likes that if he asks for a movie that I often have it especially now that I like Mel Brooks and Westerns. My mom might watch a movie with me when she visits after my wife goes to work. But she is fine whining that she misses video rentals. So this is strictly for me. At the holidays it becomes ammo for my wife and family to sh1t on me about. Like said in other threads, her family has lots of pirating and they love to rag on me there too. But I deal with it for my son. Bills are paid, I cook and clean, work with my son, take care of 98% of my family needs. Movies have been an escape from a childhood and now adulthood that I don’t have a reasonable means of dealing with. Aside from Birdemic and 3 from hell, I have no regrettable purchases in the last year.
