I wasn't even aware that Robert A. Harris had disparaged this transfer until Nick Redman himself pointed it out to me, but I think there are more problems than just saturation here, though after reading RAH's comments, it seems I liked it at least marginally more than he did. The increased graininess I think points to some issue like yellow layer failure (as I mentioned in my review). But as I also mentioned, I still think this looks better than the most recent DVD, which some are claiming it doesn't.

For As Good As It Gets - I found that the transfer was just fine. Not great...you have to consider the source material...it's certainly not a demo title, but it never was. In anything. I really don't "see" what the fuss is about. I have standards and it did not disappoint me in any way, save for leaving off the commentary from the DVD (so I can't fully replace it).

Yeah, the AQ and PQ of As Good As It Gets wasn't a 'hill to die on' for me either PeterTHX. Like any other movie overwhelmingly driven by character rather than visual razzle-dazzle, I have a somewhat elastic range for what I consider "good" AQ and PQ. Of course, any transfer spec that gets in your face and detracts from your involvement in the drama would be a bad thing, but I didn't detect anything remotely like that here. This movie always had an upscale 'TV-ish' look to it anyway...so it was, as you say, "just fine."

Quick question, is Nick Redman of Twilight Time the same Nick Redman who has done commentaries on Double Indemnity and A Clockwork Orange, among others? Was just about to sit down with the former on Blu-ray, and wondered if they were the same person.

I've never listened to the DTESS commentary Noir Fan. But Redman did win a 2011 Sammy award for his work on both the commentary and isolated score track of that release.

Redman's comments should not be hard to identify though. It's almost impossible to mistake the almost inhumanly perfect modulation in his voice.

Which one(s) do you think will be next:

• First Men in the Moon
• The Golden Voyage of Sinbad
• Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger

FTR: My order of preference would be: First Men in the Moon, then both of the Sinbad films on some kind of double-disc/double-feature, and finally The 3 Worlds of Gulliver.

For sure, but its rights are uncertain PeterTHX...especially the longer U.K. cut, which is what fans seem to want to see most. As I understand it, restoration of that version is being undertaken by the Hammer Global Film Restoration project.

With something like that in the works for One Million Years B.C. among other Hammer classics, would anyone really want to see TT release the original domestic market theatrical cut of the movie? Would Fox even want to give up the title at this time?

Sinatra or Lewis will not move many copies @ $30 a pop...same for musicals. In fact, I can just about guarantee that Cover Girl and Bye Bye Birdie will never come close to selling out.

I get myself into trouble when I speculate about such things Blu Titan, so the question I'd ask is the same as I did for Journey and Mysterious Island, "Are there at least 3000 dedicated fans of Rita Hayworth and Ann Margret worldwide?"

As I recall, Fox rescanned all of their Rogers & Hammerstein musicals while prepping South Pacific and Sound of Music for Blu-ray. It seems logical - even likely - that the remaining R & H titles (The King and I and Oklahoma) will probably get released together in some kind of deluxe box set like they did with the Monroe collection.

However, TT might still get all or some of those 2nd tier Fox musicals like Hello Dolly, Dr. Dolittle, Can-Can, and Star! - all 65mm Todd-AO - all rescanned by Fotokem at 8k around the same time as Sound of Music and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. That was at least 2 years ago, so if Fox was seriously interested in releasing any of those titles on Blu-ray, don't you think some of them would have shown up already?

As I posted earlier, the DVD got pretty good reviews. So I guess the added detail of the BD actually worsens it's presentation is some peoples eyes?

Well, it's good news they're restoring it. I guess we have to wait until the restoration is finished and Fox decides to release it. As you've noted they've been sitting on some new transfers for years.
