![]() I agree, he uses the people under 25 argument. I guess anyone that is still alive and is 26 or older that still buys movies is dead. ![]() Quote:

Someone has a signed copy of Brannigan up on eBay already at a fair price of $52.49/shipped. Here are a couple of the pictures if any of you are interested. I wont link to it in case that's against the rules, but it's not my auction. Just do a quick search and you'll find it...
![]() ![]() Someone else has it up using auction style and it's up to almost $35 if that is more your thing. Just thought I'd let you guys know. |

Everyone keeps mentioning that home media sales are down, that's just because DVD sales have been decreasing. Blu-ray sales have increased every year since their release. Yes, Blu-ray sales are still a small percentage to DVDs, but bottom line is Blu-ray sales have not been decreasing. Home media will be around for many more years to come, just likes CDs, which were suppose to die out 10 years ago I believe?
Streaming will continue to increase, but like many have already mentioned, movie studios can't make much profits giving Netflix their whole catalog for $8 a month. They have already lost the $4 per movies from rental outlets, if they lose the $30 per movie from Blu-rays, they will be making up those lost funds one way or another. Not only will Internet plans increase with low data caps, but don't be surprised if Netflix eventually increases in price to cable levels, as well as most films split across various platforms which will each incur a monthly charge. If people think home media will die and they will continue getting every movie at their fingertips for $8 a month they are dreaming. Studios make a lot of profits after the movie leaves theatres, and they won't be able to do that with whatever Netflix is giving them from charging $8 a month. People being cheap will either be the death of film, unlikely, or a huge increase in streaming charges, very likely. |

I got my shipping notice for Man Hunt. (which is the smallest TT order I have done in a while.) I want to also get The Buddy Holly Story and Secret of Santa V. Very interested in that film. I just wanted Man Hunt badly.

Physical media is going to no doubt going to go up in price, especially if a film like Horror of Dracula is lucky to sell 20000 units I'm Germany. There's no option for them if the catalog market is simply that fickle. And apparently it is... |

Blu ray sales are greatly boosted by new release blockbusters. Catalog sales are terrible according to every news item I have read on the subject. Thus the studios are going to show less and less interest in catalog releases as time goes by. Honestly though this can often mean the dedicated niche audience gets a better product, like Criterion Laserdiscs back in the day. It also means we're going to be paying a lot for it, though. |

and I wouldn't be so sure about a higher quality product. except for Criterion most of the other labels aren't THAT good. TT gets what the studio gives them and encodes it Olive has menus that a 5 year old could create and no subs, or extras most of the time Scream/Shout are known for their compression issues Kino, usually pretty good but they get the same things from the studio. Think if what streaming doesn't entail: disc authoring; artwork printing, case purchasing, assembly, shipping, returns from the outlets. There are different costs sure, but not nearly as much which pushes the profits up if they get a good deal streaming somewhere. |

but just musing here. I wonder if the niche catalog market will do well as a full niche... piracy wasn't in existence during laserdisc (at least not the way it is now). and I constantly here from people here on this site, to a dozen other sites, that if prices go up on catalogs then they'll just turn to piratebay...... it will definitely be interesting to see Last edited by wormraper; 08-12-2014 at 07:14 PM. |

Funny thing. Just last night, the NBC News had a story about House of Cards and the Netflix model. Included in the story was a quote from Kevin Spacey, who said (not an exact quote) of the Netflix model (specifically releasing all of a season's episodes at once), "It shows that if you give the people what they want, when they want it, and at a reasonable price, they won't steal it."

Laserdisc died before internet sharing, which made pirating so much easier than going to a con of some type and finding that shady sort of dealer... |
