Not a MGM/UA picture, but any chance that Requiem For a Heavyweight (1962) will be released by Twilight Time? I know TT is releasing Director Ralph Nelson's other well known picture, Lilies of The Field in March, so I'm thinking this might be a possibility.

Wth regard to THE BIG HEAT, MYSTERIOUS ISLAND, and their new extras, when we first started licensing from Sony extras were precluded, but now, as our relationship with them has solidified, that position has softened and we took the opportunity to do something different. With JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH at Fox, we were offered a fantastic new 4k transfer.

The 4 MGM/UA reissues this year will all be essentially the same as the previous releases, so little need to "double-dip." We are aiming these toward the people that missed out first time around and have written to us asking for a second chance, and as stated earlier, that will be the end of the reissue program - in the 5 short years that TT has been in business, the home video world has changed exponentially. And, as a result, studios, and boutique labels will constantly have to realign with the new market forces, and be adaptable to any variant. It is our desire to keep on giving what home theater enthusiasts want, and in order to do that decisions have to be made that will always be unpopular with a segment of the community, but hopefully beneficial to the majority. If we don't, we'll have to pick up our chips and find another game.
I appreciate your response, thank you. I didn't know that Sony had disallowed extras at the beginning. To be clear, I have actually bought a few of the re-issues but - with times being tighter - I've had to draw the line at re-buying MYSTERIOUS ISLAND and THE BIG HEAT, much as I'd like to indulge in the extras.

I do still think that including new extras on re-issues is provocative to those who bought earlier editions; a re-issue should be exactly and only that, imo. Or at least some accommodation should be made for those who helped sell-out the original run in the first-place: On proof of purchase, for example, they could be given codes to allow downloads of commentaries and bonus features.

In any case, I welcome your announcement that these re-issues will not be par-for-the-course in future. I understand the realities of the business and have never minded paying a fair price for good films, well-presented; and I will continue to do so.

It is a possibility, but not in the short term as it is not blu-ray ready.

I think you're dead on with the first three, and I hope you're right on the fourth (I missed that one last time around).

Of the re-issues, I took the plunge on switching to the new versions of FRIGHT NIGHT (because I managed to snag the free autograph) and JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH (new transfer!)...but I've skipped on MYSTERIOUS ISLAND and BIG HEAT and am keeping the originals. In both of those first two cases, I was able to get my money back on the original purchase because there's always interest in TT discs second-hand. Let TT do what makes them money and keeps them putting out great titles on blu-ray!

TT titles in my collection = 142

To be fair, I'm not sure if there are any other MGM/UA titles that are sold out to choose from lol.

edit: scratch that Rollerball is a UA title too, so I definitely think that will be among the 4

edit2: I also missed the news about Thunderbolt getting a reissue in April

OK, then kudos on your excellent process-of-elimination.

P.S. yeah, forgot about "Rollerball"...I actually think they'd re-release that one over "Wild At Heart".

A new transfer is about the best excuse for a re-release because I understand they're at the mercy of the studios. But could they really not have included the in-house commentary on THE BIG HEAT on the first release, for example? Or licensed the extras for the first release of MYSTERIOUS ISLAND? And is including these new extras worth it when it means that you now have three thousand vaguely resentful customers who bought the lesser version? Is that a good policy in the long-term?

I'd like to think it isn't; but then again, I still usually buy at least one a month so I'm under no illusions about how much of a damn TT gives about my opinion.
If you think the re-releases are better than the original releases that you already have, why don't you sell the originals? Twilight Time titles hold their value well. I actually sold two titles that I didn't want to keep on Ebay and in auction style listings, they actually sold higher than $29.95, even while they were still available for sale at SAE.

That's actually a disappointing thing to read. If a title sells briskly and the demand is still there, why not put out another copy and give some other people a chance who missed out the first go-round?

Probably because it gives TT a chance to release more movies that are new to the format. A movie that a reissue would likely displace. So it gives the unreleased movie a better chance to make it out. I'm rooting for the new movie myself. There are more than enough fine candidates out there.

Agreed.....although the version of One Million Years, B.C. that was recently shown on TCM was HD and was the uncut version....so it's out there. 2017 perhaps TT? On a side note, I have a feeling Warners/WAC will give us The Valley of Gwangi at the end of this year, too.

I'm hoping that THREE WORLDS OF GULLIVER is the next Harryhausen BD.

Most Wanted BDs:
HARDCORE (1979), HUSH HUSH SWEET CHARLOTTE, THREE WORLDS OF GULLIVER, 8MM, SHOCK TREATMENT (1964), THE INCIDENT, THE GLASS MENAGERIE (1987), EFFECT OF GAMMA RAYS ON MAN-IN-THE-MOON MARIGOLDS, HOMICIDAL, PRIVATE PARTS (1972), RED SKY AT MORNING, GIRLS TOWN (1959).

I'm in for both, but I think One Million Years B.C. has wider appeal, it would have to be a 5000 unit release, and it may still sell out quick.

I wish TT would release Captain from Castile on BD since Fox hasn't done so!

It's a lot easier to sell TT titles in the US than outside of it. And frankly, I can do without the hassle.

TT is starting to move through Fox's noir catalog, so it's a possibility. Of those three, we would probaby see Kiss of Death first, but I'm guessing that other Fox noirs would come before any of those three.

I agree but let's not forget The Mark of Zorro, Untamed and The Long Gray Line! Still, CfC is still my favorite film and I think the soundtrack would be right up TTs alley. Also love the real-life volcanic activity in the film (which wasn't special effects)!
