The Harlock freebie is still available. Got to be a record. First time I've ever received the free signed copy while it's still available to buy. They must have signed more than usual.

I think there are a few things at play;

1) A minimum of 5 titles must be purchased over the more common 4 titles required for the more recent signed editions
2) The 10 to Midnight signed offer recently ended
3) The TT sale just ended

I would have picked this up but I already have that title and, based on the above, I'm having a hard time finding 5 additional titles I'd want given I already have quite a few.

Or maybe not many were interested in this.
This is a contemporary 3D animated movie and I have the notion that TT's main customers are people who're interested in older movies.

The recent TT sale is a big factor I would assume.

What.....you calling me old?? I resemble that remark!

I certainly prefer older movies that haven't made it to Blu over newer films.....there's no rush to get them.

I would assume that as well.

I would have considered placing an order, but after ordering 12 titles total during the sale, there was no way I could really.

Same here. Even if you look at the signed promo thing as "getting six for the price of five" (and the freebie being a $35 title) that would still work out to $25 a title, which isn't as good a deal as the $10 off per title in the TT sale. The only benefit I can see from this promo is that you can grab some titles that TT didn't have in stock themselves (or were too recent to be offered at the discount).

It's weird that they offered this promo so soon after the last one. Part of me suspicions that it was TT trying to throw SAE a bone after leaving them out of this anniversary sale.

At any rate, I've blown my Blu-budget on the sale until next payday. If by some miracle the signed Harlock is still around in two weeks, I'll go for it, but if not, I won't worry about it.

I too am a fan of the older films and Harlock wasn't something I would normally purchase, but getting some of the newer titles for $5 cheaper is always worth it. No doubt TT busted most of our wallets this month.

Last night, I watched my Twilight Time Blu-ray of Judgment at Nuremberg.

Judgment at Nuremberg clocks in at over three hours and is an extensively dialogue-driven courtroom drama, but it flies by at a lightning pace due to strong casting and magnificent camera work. Spencer Tracy shines in his lead role as Chief Judge Dan Haywood, while Burt Lancaster (one of my all-time favorite actors, and, possibly, my absolute favorite) steals many scenes as Dr. Ernst Janning. Richard Widmark, a stalwart of film noir cinema, plays the chief prosecutor, while Maximilian Schell commands attention as the defense attorney. Other prominent roles from Judy Garland, William Shatner, Montgomery Clift, and the always gorgeous Marlene Dietrich amp up the momentum even more. Director Stanley Kramer helms this cinematic milestone, which benefits from focusing on the trials of the German judges during the Nazi era instead of focusing on the more prominent cases of the actual officers, because the ensuing story gives us a thought-provoking view of the true nature of ethical responsibility in times of national crisis.

I think that I speak for most 1970s/1980s kids when I say that I primarily recognize Maximilian Schell from his role in the Disney film, The Black Hole, which I'm still clamoring for to be released on Blu-ray.

The fact that I decided to watch Judgment at Nuremberg this morning, while I'm off of work for Confederate Memorial Day, a state holiday, was actually because of a random decision as I was eyeing my collection and deciding what to watch, but it's funny that it worked out that way.

The technical specs of this Twilight Time Blu-ray are close to impeccable. This is a remarkable transfer. The extra features are short, but superbly informative.

This afternoon, I will be watching Kramer's Inherit the Wind, which also stars Spencer Tracy. That's another Twilight Time Blu-ray that has been sitting in my unwatched stack for an inexcusable length of time.

No, it's pretty much what the other guy said. With the other signed promo two weeks prior and the sale, everyone's pretty much tapped out. Even at the best of times, most signed promos last a few days nowadays.

Both are superb courtroom dramas from Kramer but Nuremberg tends to be the more even-handed and less didactic of the two. Wind is guilty (ha, pun!) of making all of the townfolk rabid, virulent, simple-minded Creationists whereas Nuremberg at least casts the occasional sympathetic eye at the Germans.

The ensemble acting of Nuremberg is symphonic, with no false note to be found. The biggest joy of Wind is watching two heavyweights like Tracy and March (both former Jekyll/Hydes) square off. And look out for Gene Kelly in a rare "about face" as a wisecracking Greek chorus.

I received 6 titles from TT's sale today. I haven't been able to stay on top of all the posts in this group due to some personal things going on, so maybe this is old news ... but I was pleasantly surprised to see 2 of the older titles which were originally packaged in blue cases, come packaged in clear cases. Nice. (The delivery time was also super fast).

Last night, I watched my Twilight Time Blu-ray of Inherit the Wind.

This was my second Stanley Kramer film of the day, after Judgment at Nuremberg, and it's also a brilliant work. Inherit the Wind is a fictional retelling of the events that unfolded at the 1925 Scopes "Monkey" Trial, where a high school teacher was arrested in Tennessee for teaching Charles Darwin's Theory of Evolution to his students. Spencer Tracy is amazing as the defense attorney, while Fredric March excels as the prosecution. Gene Kelly, who is primarily known for his musicals, is great as a newspaper columnist who hovers over the proceedings.

Right now, in 2016, a viewing of Inherit the Wind comes with some sadness, especially during a scene where Spencer Tracy addresses the courtroom and warns against civilized society marching backwards. I wonder if the filmmakers imagined, even in their wildest dreams, that American society would be marching backwards today. This movie tweaks the real-life Scopes Trial story somewhat in order to parallel the dangerous implications of McCarthyism, and its alleged effect on free thinking in America, but the story still applies just as much, if no more so, today as it did upon its release.

I fondly remember my own ninth-grade Biology teacher, who was also extremely active at my Methodist Church in my hometown. On the first day of school, she gave a general overview of scientific theory, without mentioning religion, and explained to us that "The absolute truth of science is that there is no absolute truth.", meaning that theories were often debunked in favor of new theories and such. After that, she enthusiastically began to teach the theory of evolution. It has always seemed to me, as Ray Bradbury once said, that science and religion go hand in hand, because, as we delve farther into the history and truths of each, we can use the other to help fill the gaps in knowledge. Kramer's Inherit the Wind goes somewhat overboard in the theatrics department, but it does offer some hopeful hints to this effect, that religion and scientific theory can go hand in hand.

The video presentation and the audio presentation are both pretty close to flawless, and this is a good disc across the board. Well done, Twilight Time!

My preferences are strong for Kramer's Judgment at Nuremberg, but Inherit the Wind is also a solid great flick.

Exactly. I did want this title and could swing it, so I picked up enough for the promo. But I had to really try to find some ones to make it to that threshold. Perhaps TT fans are tapped out with titles to own?

SAE offering discounted shipping on a $50-plus TT order until May 4. Not a huge saving, but a little extra encouragement for anyone thinking of ordering a couple of titles. Now, how about a sale this summer?

I've been eyeing a few recent titles, so at least have to take a look. (Harlock was just not something I was interested in, though I did have 5 I could have used if I had to, so I passed on that one...) Probably will wait a bit yet though before placing another order... or maybe not.

Skipped TT sale, not much left I needed, figured I'd just wait for SAE to get around to theirs.

Nobody answered this last time I asked, but is TT's shipper the same one that FoxConnect uses?

All,

Due to a minor technical glitch on our site, pre-orders were delayed by about 7 minutes. We apologize for the inconvenience - all titles are now available for pre-order.

Cat Balhou
Garden of Evil

Appasionata looks like an interesting slice of 1970s sleaze, but I'm going to wait for a while to order it.
