Not sure why that's so hard to believe. Tracy and Hepburn were longtime partners (both professionally and personally), and he had little time remaining (he would die weeks after filming concluded.) The words being spoken were his character's, but he may as well have been addressing her privately.

I'm not as high on Guess Who's Coming to Dinner as some others might be, but that is a special moment in movie history and we should feel lucky it was captured.

Some great releases in August. The Tony Rome double feature is my most anticipated release of the year.

I certainly am aware of the relationship between Hepburn and Tracy, and I am also quite aware that Tracy was ill during the filming and died immediately after. I have no doubt that Hepburn's tears were as much on behalf of herself as they were for the character she played...my only point was that proclaiming that she had "real" tears in her eyes was not exactly a landmark in film history. If an actor is worth his/her salt, producing tears is second nature and, even if they aren't produced based on actual personal feelings, they are just as "real" to the actor at that particular moment.

You act as if only a few people knew of Tracy and Hepburn's relationship and you are revealing a long kept secret. EVERYONE knows about it and I don't have to do any reading to bring me up to speed like you probably needed to. It really annoys me that people get verbally combative for all the wrong reasons. If you read my remarks carefully you'd see that I was only stating the fact that "real tears" for an actor, REGARDLESS of whether or not a personal relationship is a factor, is NOT in the least rare, and "crying on 'cue'" has been required and accomplished in hundreds...thousands...of movies.

Please just stop. You focused obsessively on one word and are now spinning this into a feud. Any further posts on this by anyone will be deleted.

I saw this with my father when it first came out in 1969. I was 10. Can't say I loved it, but it was entertaining. I also saw the trailer for KELLY'S HEROES just before seeing BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES in 1970, though I wouldn't see K.H. until it was shown on CBS in the Fall of 1974.

I don't think they'd make a perfect double-feature. K.H. has an entirely different tone, but it could work, I guess.

Anyway, I have SECRET from TT, and K.H. on Blu-ray from Warner.

(Oh, and I think Hepburn really teared up. Tracy supposedly did that monologue in one take and one take only. Probably shot with many cameras. I've read the crew applauded afterward.

And I've also read, but don't know that it's true, that the Tracy/Hepburn wasn't exactly what it's been said to have been, i.e. that they were "beards" for each other. Who knows? I wouldn't doubt it though.)

Oh, I think it's quite dated. It looked dated by 1970!

Can't say I'm a big fan of the "Hardcore" cover and I rarely have a problem with covers. It's a crucial moment in the film, but if you cut off the very bottom of the image, it would almost look like George C. Scott is taking a painful dump. I wish the cover would have reflected the 70s, porny vibe of the movie more, but no big deal.

Nice. Twilight Time needs to do more of these two-fers. The are a lot of good, but not great, films out there that might hard to justify for $30, but that would be very tempting at 2/$30.

You can announce "The Three Worlds of Gulliver" any time now. We are anxiously awaiting!

PS : Any thought to "Trouble with Angels" and "The Long Ships" ? Two great Columbia/Sony titles just waiting for your special care and handling! I think Haley Mills has been ignored for long enough.

I think we're just about 5 weeks away from that announcement. I can't wait to see what the cover will be. Every Harryhausen title from Twilight Time has been awesome...except for The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (which is just OK imo). The questions now are if The 3 Worlds of Gulliver will be released in November or December and how well it will sell vs the other Harryhausen movies. I've always had a soft spot for it but some feel the lack of animated characters keep it in the lower half of his movies.

I wasn't tempted to get SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHERIFF/GUNFIGHTER combo until I got it for $19.95. $10 each is more like it, though I consider SHERIFF $15 and GUNFIGHTER just $5.

The TONY ROME combo is something wanted, but I'll wait for the sale on it. Quite "dated." I wish THE DETECTIVE could have been a combo with something, like THE BOSTON STRANGLER. Both have very dated elements.

THE BOSTON STRANGLER would be a great choice.

I also don't like the cover art for HARDCORE, but they could put Shakes the Clown on the cover and I'd still buy two copies. I wish they used the poster art that showed Scott in front of a porno movie theater. Great to have the two audio commentary tracks.

August will be really expensive for me, with titles like HARDCORE, TONY ROME, and THEATER OF BLOOD.

The extras "Passion & Poetry: Senta & Sam" & "The James Wong Howe Story" are very intriguing. I haven't seen the film, but probably blind buy it. Seems like Sam Peckinpah also directed part of the film.
