![]() I was a big WA fan in the 70s and 80s. By the 90s, I was getting a bit tired of his films. I still enjoyed the ones I was seeing in the 90s, but I no longer made the effort to get to them in the theater, or pick them up on DVD. I've recently gotten back into them. It's hard to say what his best films are, mostly because when I think of one title, I start thinking, "No...maybe this other one..." My inclination is to say that Annie Hall is still my favorite of his films, but that Crimes and Misdemeanors is his most accomplished. Regarding my first sentence above, I'm a member of the set of people who actually prefer his later, more serious films to his earlier, vaudevillian comedies. The one-two punch of Annie Hall and Manhattan took my breath away. (Yes, Interiors came in between those two, but that was a very different kettle of fish...a largely unsuccessful, in my opinion, attempt to channel Bergman.) |

MATCH POINT seems to have been "inspired" by the American film classic A PLACE IN THE SUN.

I received notification from Twilight Time.com that Hardcore has been charged to my card and is waiting for fulfillment. It looks like the August releases are shipping on time or even early. If it ships within the next couple of days, I could have it by Saturday maybe.

Thanks for the heads-up on Judgement at Nuremberg Rick! Was going to wait and order it with Runaway Train but instead just put my order in after seeing the latest numbers. Wasn't it still around 250 just a week or two ago?

I saw "Interiors" back in the 70s when I was a teenager. I still consider it a masterpiece. Truly one of Allen's most fascinating dramas. It's a very dark story and difficult for some to appreciate, but the performances are terrific. It remains my most personal and engrossing Allen film. I hope "Interiors" and "Stardust Memories" are on the Twilight Time release schedule

For no good reason, here are my top 10 Twilight Time releases so far. Obviously, my taste runs very 60s/70s, with a dash of noir.
What are yours? Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia Cutter's Way The Disappearance The Driver Fat City Hard Times House of Bamboo The Last Detail Rapture Violent Saturday |

My 10 favorite TT films:
At Close Range The Big Heat Body Double Crimes and Misdemeanors Cutter's Way The Driver Fat City The Last Detail Mississippi Burning Wild at Heart I agree that "The Disappearance" is an amazing release, even though I don't love the film. It's such a little-seen film and examining the two cuts is fascinating. My most underrated TT title would be "Inserts", which more people need to see. Fantastic film. |

Setting and mood is everything in that one. It lingers in the mind despite its flaws. Underseen obscure releases like this and Rapture are why I love TT. Haven't scored it yet, but I bet it'll take a place in my top 10 TT list. I haven't seen it since the VHS days, since it was a "house favorite" at Baltimore's Video Americain (the vid shop featured in John Waters' Serial Mom, incidentally)... but I loved it then. |

"The Disappearance" does linger with you for sure. Very, very strange film. I love "Rapture". That one was a complete blind buy. I'd heard good things on this forum and picked it up during one of the sales. I absolutely loved it; real hidden gem. "Inserts" is a great film. Amazing how many undiscovered gems there are from the New Hollywood era. TT seems to release a lot of those.
