OK. I was going off of bad information. It is indeed 70 years from the author's death, although I'm still unclear what "author" means in the context of a collective work for hire. In any event, it appears that companies like Fox or Sony don't want to spend the effort on small fish like Resen. It seems most of the anti-piracy efforts are focused on fileshare sites these days.

70 years from the death of the last surviving co-author.

Quote:
Article 28. Duration and calculation of the works in collaboration and collective.

1. The exploitation rights of the works in cooperation defined in Article 7, including cinematographic and audiovisual works, will last a lifetime coauthor seventy years after the death or declaration of death of the last surviving co-author.

2. The exploitation rights in collective works as defined in Article 8 of this Act last seventy years from the lawful disclosure of the protected work. However, if the natural persons who have created the work are identified as authors in the versions of it that are made accessible to the public, will be governed by the provisions of Articles 26 or 28.1, as appropriate.

The provisions of the preceding paragraph shall be without prejudice to the rights of authors whose identifiable contributions are included in such works, to which Article 26 and paragraph 1 of this Article, shall apply as appropriate.

So the way I understand it is this. Even though Sony is the current copyright holder for The Big Heat, the copyright expiry is set at 70 years from the death of the last surviving author, which is defined as either the director (Fritz Lang), the screenwriter (Sydney Boehm), or the composer (Henry Vars), whoever died last. In this case, since Sydney Boehm slipped this mortal coil in 1990, the copyright won't expire until 2060.

And to think, I once wanted to go to law school. Sheesh.

It's really death of the artist plus infinity, because every time Mickey Mouse gets close to expiring the US government will extend copyright and other countries will be forced to recognize it.

What I don't understand is why the Spanish authorities don't do anything about it.
Amazon.es don't seem to give a damn about the problem either.

That's why I don't buy any Spanish BD / DVD releases anymore.
I've been burned one time too many (no pun intended).

Best to buy the official TT release. It may cost a bit more but at least you know you're getting a top quality disc that will (hopefully) stand the test of time.
Those BD-R knock-off's will probably fail after a couple of years.
Completely agree. Wouldn't have bought it if I'd known (I'm surprised bootlegs are listed on bluray.com's index).

I put it in my BD drive and it's apparently not a BD-R, but still, I really don't want to support this and it's still effectively a knock-off.

The Big Heat cover art from TT is a thing of beauty too.

I came across, again, the promotional flyer from the Dec 2015 releases which was advertising the monthly contest where one winner would be selected each month to win the following month's releases. I wonder what ever happened with that?

They should make it one of the qualifying titles for the 7 for $70 bundle.

Heads up:

Mindwarp enters the low quantity list with less than 400 copies remaining. I have updated the low quantity alert in the first post of this thread.

Mindwarp has been reduced to $14.95 on TT's website only.

Twilight Time: Just a heads-up that TT's remaining stock of MINDWARP starring Bruce Campbell, is now reduced to $14.95 at http://www.twilighttimemovies.com

It is part of the 7 for $70 bundle at Screen Archives but ordering it by itself on SAE still shows full price.

I don't recall if this has been posted yet or not.

The Seven-Ups (1973) starring Roy Scheider is coming from Twilight Time in the future with a new 4K transfer.

Quote:
Question: Any chance of acquiring "The Seven-Ups" (1973) from 20th Century Fox for a Blu-ray release?

Twilight Time Movies: Yes, there's a new 4K transfer in process so we'll schedule it when it becomes available.
Plot summary from IMDb:
Quote:
A tough detective who is part of an elite New York City unit is trying to find out who killed his partner, but uncovers a plot to kidnap mobsters for money.

Yes, I mentioned it a while back on this thread because I had asked them the same question. The also have the rights to the Hot Rock but the transfer is a bit iffy and they're waiting on a better one.

Could any one offer some insight on Mindwarp? I don't know much about it, I like both Angus Scrimm and Bruce Campbell but I feel like I read a review saying that Bruce is only in this for half the run time and it drags when he is not on screen. It's tempting at $15.

After all of my gripes directed at Twilight Time, I finally added one of their releases with Mindwarp. A movie I had initially ordered early last year but had to cancel through an Amazon seller due to a personal tragedy.

Good job, guys. Cheaper than getting it off Amazon.

Interesting. I received an email from Twilight Time stating that Mindwarp is sold out at SAE. But it's still showing up in my SAE cart. Hmmm. ??

Glad I finally jumped on board with ordering Mindwarp.

I knew it was either going to be sold out or close to receiving the destruction order pretty soon, so I welcomed this lower price with open arms.

Sounds like TT might be trying to acquire another title.

My email from TT said there's under 400 copies. Not that low a number so I wonder if they don't think these will sell out at this point so they lowered the price?
