I didn't mean to start an argument with anyone on here, and if it wasn't your intent, I'm sorry I took offense to your initial message, Mike. My apologies to you as well, StingingVelvet. I have just never actually had this happen to me, so something seemed wrong, and being so close to Christmas, I was worried my order wouldn't be shipped before the holiday.

Regarding GULLIVER, my SAE shipping label was created on Dec. 16th. However, the package was only picked up today, Dec. 19th, by the post office in Linden, VA.

It's nice to see some movement on it. Hopefully, it will arrive before Christmas, and I hope everybody else receives their packages before Christmas as well.

This is a reference quality transfer of a Harryhausen film
(although I will add that "First Men in the Moon"
and "The Golden Voyage of Sinbad" are also reference quality).

I wonder if Ray Harryhausen ever saw "The Three Worlds of Gulliver" look this good?
Excellent to hear! Sony has provided terrific Harryhausen scans to TT. It's sad I haven't watched it yet, nor Moby Dick, because I have several movies ahead of them. Why not just watch them? I would if I weren't so damn OCD that I have to watch my movies in the order I receive them

Sorry to hear that. Hope you get your order soon. I went with SAE for that particular order and it was a bit delayed but not bad. They just didn't receive stock on time.

Finally got to watch my copy of TT's new blu-ray of Moby Dick. It was my first time watching the movie, and I thought the screenplay by Bradbury and Huston captured in a wonderful way the philosophic and poetic quality of the original novel. The sepia tones of the movie evoked well both the period as well as the somber mood of the novel. Peck as Ahab seemed like a case of casting against type that works. In some ways, Ahab is such a nasty and crazy character that having someone as handsome and sympathetic as Peck in the role works in terms of keeping you along for the ride. Leo Genn is outstanding as Starbuck. But every role seems carefully cast and they all get a chance to do their stuff—Basehart, Bernard Miles, Royal Dano, Orson Welles, Friedrich von Ledebur, etc., etc. Found it to be surprisingly haunting and powerful, including when Peck says that the whale is just a mask—or a metaphor—for something beyond. It's now one of my favorite movies released in 1956.

Since I like wasting time writing up lists of my favorite movies for each year, here's my list as of today for that very good year of 1956. There are two Twilight Time titles in my top ten...

1. The Man Who Knew Too Much
2. The Ten Commandments
3. Invasion of the Body Snatchers
4. The Court Jester
5. Moby Dick
6. The King and I
7. Bigger Than Life
8. The Searchers
9. The Eddy Duchin Story
10. The Wrong Man
11. Forbidden Planet
12. High Society
13. Lust for Life
14. War and Peace
15. Carousel
16. Giant
17. Around the World in 80 Days
18. Anastasia
19. Earth vs. the Flying Saucers
20. The Killing

And there are still many notable films from 1956 that I haven't yet seen, including 1984, Alexander the Great, Autumn Leaves, The Bad Seed, The Benny Goodman Story, Beyond a Reasonable Doubt, Bus Stop, Friendly Persuasion (the movie that Reagan gave Gorbachev!), The Great Locomotive Chase, The Harder They Fall, Helen of Troy, Hollywood or Bust, Jubal, The Last Wagon, Miracle in the Rain Pardners, The Rainmakers, Tea and Sympathy, Trapeze, etc., etc.

Anyone else willing to give a sense of where Moby Dick ranks for you in terms of 1956?

It's always interesting to hear the thoughts from someone seeing a great movie for the first time. In this case, a classic. I tend to forget, or take for granted, that not everyone has seen all the movies I have regardless of popularity. Thanks for your thoughts

Again, I have never had a problem like this, regardless of what time of year I was ordering, the size of the outfit I was ordering from, etc., and I've placed dozens of orders online over the years. It has never taken a company so long to ship an in-stock product to me that the preauthorization expired. And when you come at someone like MikeZ. did, people tend to go on the offensive.
In my experience, based on thousands of orders, this is very normal and Amazon is the exception since they don't put an authorization hold on a card until they're ready to ship; the authorization hold is determined by the bank's policy and not the retailer.

In terms of the time it takes orders to ship, even Amazon may take more than 24 hours to ship an order and there are plenty of complaints on this forum alone of members complaining that Amazon has taken up to 2 weeks to ship their in stock orders with free shipping.

Great list. I would like to add The Man In The Grey Flannel Suit, another great movie starring Gregory Peck. I can see Twilight Time releasing this since they seem to be focused on releasing the rest of the 20th Century Fox Studio Classics originally released on DVD:

Interesting bit about TT and 20th Century Fox films. Kino Lorber is releasing 20th Century Fox titles now, like "Mark of Zorro," "Rawhide" and the soon to follow "Prince of Foxes." I mention these titles in particular because they are Tyrone Power films, and I am hoping additional titles follow like "Captain From Castile," "Son of Fury" and "The Black Rose." All of these titles were originally 20th Century Fox DVD releases. Mister Lime of KL seemed to be hopeful about continuing release arrangements with 20th Century Fox. That said, I am curious about TT's arrangement with Fox, and what the overlap with KL may be. Regardless, I'm just hoping to see these great films released in Blu-ray by somebody!

Well, let's see...There were 41 movies in Fox's Studio Classics DVD imprint. Of that 41, 31 have been released on Blu-ray (or have been announced for future release), and 10 haven't.

Of the 31 released on Blu-ray, here's the breakdown:

Fox themselves have released 17 of them, 10 of them under their "20th Century Fox Studio Classics" imprint. It's pretty clear at this point that Fox probably won't release any of the others.

Criterion has released 1.
Kino Lorber Studio Classics has released 2.
Twilight Time has released 11.

Of course, KLSC has only relatively recently started licensing from Fox, so who knows where the rest will end up, assuming they get a Blu-ray release in the first place. Since TT is releasing Peyton Place, they might well release the sequel as well sometime down the road.

Anyway, here are the Studio Classics DVDs that have not yet been released on Blu-ray:

Alexander's Ragtime Band
Anna and the King of Siam
In Old Chicago
Man in the Gray Flannel Suit
Orchestra Wives
The Rains Came
Return to Peyton Place
The River's Edge
The Snake Pit
Three Coins in the Fountain

When asked about Peyton Place on FB, Twilight Time indicated they were not able to get Return to Peyton Place because Fox has not created an HD transfer.

Yeah, I figured as much. Still, they might get it down the road if Fox does one.

In the meantime, here's a similar list for Fox's Film Noir DVD set. There were 26 titles in total, 12 of them released on Blu-ray, 14 not. Of the 12 released on Blu-ray...

Fox released 3 themselves, one of which (Boomerang!) was subsequently released by Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics released 4 (in addition to Boomerang!).

Twilight Time has 5, two of which (Whirlpool and Fallen Angel) have yet to be scheduled.

The Film Noir DVDs not yet released on Blu-ray are:

Black Widow
Call Northside 777
Dangerous Crossing
The Dark Corner
Fourteen Hours
House of Strangers
The House on Telegraph Hill
Moontide
Nightmare Alley
No Way Out
Shock
Somewhere in the Night
The Street with No Name

Twilight Time has not mentioned any of these. Kino seems to love Noir. If they extend their agreement with Fox I could some of these with them. Otherwise, some of these could end up with Fox Cinema Archives of with Twilight Time. TT has been mum on talking about what they have rights to. They used to provide more feedback.

On Twilight Times Ray Harryhausen releases --
These newer restorations of Harryhausen films have been excellent
(and that is an understatement):

Mysterious Island
First Men in the Moon
The Golden Voyage of Sinbad
and now The Three Worlds of Gulliver

All look great.
The original matte paintings in Mysterious Island may give the impression of not being as excellent as the other three above,
but I think the transfer is as close to perfection as can be achieved while maintaining the integrity of the original work.

Now I hope that Sony goes back and gives a 4K restoration of
The 7th Voyage of Sinbad.
About 5 years ago, I saw what appeared to be a new 35mm print of this film,
and
it blew away the old Blu-ray release and confirmed my childhood recollection of how good 7th Voyage originally looked.

That would be awesome if Sony released The 7th Voyage of Sinbad with a new 4k scan and give it to Twilight Time. TT has done well with the Harryhausen movies from Sony including the release of Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger which also looked excellent.
