Yeah. The exclusivity in region1/A for three years is one thing but now that more and more people are region free there may not be any exclusive releases any more.

Yeah, the master is clearly an older one. But the only thing that really stuck out at me was one or two hiccups in some scenes with fast movement and lots of detail (when they are chasing after errant steers running through the woods for example), and in some faint instability along sharp straight edges (like the edges of the house seen from a distance). Things like this contributed to a slight sense of a more 'electronic' look on occasion.

As far as the level of dirt and print damage- I grew up in a small town with a two screen theater that only got films in months after they had opened. They usually arrived with a decent amount of wear and tear accumulated from their first runs. Seeing the condition of this print really conjured up that old long lost analog theater going feeling. Sure, a pristine print would have been much appreciated- but the level of damage here really isn't all that bad- it's only when seen in relation to most other studio catalog releases which are usually much cleaner, but hardly ever perfect themselves.

On the plus side, I didn't notice any deleterious effects of DNR, nor was the film a victim of revisionist color grading. Either of which would have been just as, if not more unfortunate than the issues it does have IMO.
For the most part the image was highly detailed and the impressively lensed locations came through loud and clear.

As one of the few fans of the film who was eagerly awaiting it's release on Bd, I came away very happy all in all.

Having expectations lowered, definitely helped though.
We really appreciate that, Mose - we're sorry the master wasn't in better shape but we weren't going to DNR it or in any way make it worse, so we felt that the most discerning of aficionados wouldn't mind - especially with the price break!

The 6 I want are the only 6 I don't already have, so there's nothing to pad out the order except for a dupe.

And 4 of the 6 are already blind-buys. They look interesting enough to get for $10 a piece.

For the record, the 6 I'm interested in are...

(1) Conrack -- Saw it back in the 70s; didn't make much of an impression on me at the time; but I've become a Martin Ritt fan since then.

(2) Rita, Sue, and Bob Too! -- Also saw back when it came out. Haven't seen it in the 30 years since, but I remember it being fun.

The blind-buys:

(3) Fever Pitch
(4) The Firm
(5) Resurrected
(6) Save Your Legs!

It is also why TT models its business the way it does and only issues a limited qty.

Thank you very much for the heads-up on this. I was wondering about "how bad it was", etc., and your remarks are a big help, especially considering I'm planning on including it with my batch of pre-orders next week.

The email from Screen Archives doesn't mention an end date to the sale. What it says is:

Buy seven of any of the following Twilight Time titles for $70.00 and get a real deal. This is a one-time “package price” of seven titles until they are gone. It’s okay to mix and match — just buy seven of one or one each of these titles. You must have a minimum of seven titles in your cart, but you can also create as many “packages” as you like, as long as you buy seven titles at a time. Final price will be adjusted at checkout

The customer is always right

Seriously, I can't imagine how many calls and emails they've received asking if The Mad Magician is included.

Speaking of which....looks like this site has a review up for The Mad Magician.

Too bad the sale requires 7 titles. Make it $10 per title and I would be all over 3 titles I would still like to purchase. Just won't spend $70 to get three titles I want and four I don't want. Just say'in....

I was just curious if there's any news on Panic Room. I heard Twilight Time might be releasing it as its a much sought after title for me that I can't wait on.

Also was wondering if Twilight Time will still get the rights for Sony's titles with what they're going through right now. I really hope so as I'm a huge TT supporter. You guys release pure quality. I haven't been disappointed with one Twilight Time release yet.

They're still waiting on Sony to finish a 4k remaster of Panic Room, last we heard. Until that's done I doubt we get any updates. I bet once it is done we see releases all over the world, maybe from Indicator in the UK, which would be amazing.

I just placed an order from SAE for 1984.

This is an actual fact, not an alternative fact. Seriously.

I recently watched this twice within 2 or 3 days ... once with the orchestral soundtrack and once with the Eurythmics. To be honest, if I didn't know ahead of time that they were different, I might not have noticed.
[Show spoiler](I was imagining Annie Lennox singing away in the soundtrack, which doesn't happen).
Maybe I was too engrossed in trying to figure out all that was going on. I think I still need to see it again ... just not sure that I want to watch it again so soon. I never read the book, but after seeing the movie, I'm thinking they crammed a lot of information into the 2 hours (or so) of running time. Who knows what all they didn't include from the book, or changed to fit into the movie running time.

I read the book when I was younger, and loved it. It is fairly dense with material (though not a large book). I had a free audible trial a few weeks back, and decided to use the free credit to get the audiobook to listen to it, and the narration is great (rave reviews from others too).
