I picked up Boxcar Bertha and Absolute Beginners, both are titles that I have wanted to buy, but I didn't find them worthy enough at full price. Now, with the sales prices, I jumped right on them. I'm glad for the sale!!

With the criterion flash sale yesterday and now this one, March's blu ray budget is exhausted!

Checked out the Arrow edition of Alfredo Garcia and prevaricated a bit. Truthfully, both editions have their own wonderful spate of supplements, with the Arrow adding a pretty cool reversible sleeve cover. The main difference comes down to PQ, with the Arrow winning out courtesy of a 4k restoration.

Ultimately I went with TT's, not because I'm a fanboy (far from) but at $15 I was able to (begrudgingly) accept its comparative limitations. It's a blind buy anyways and adding it to my order was easy.

Forgot all about that one too. Going to have to eat meals of ice and Ramen noodles this month, I guess.

Feels like maybe these would get a proper restoration and release at some point... but I don't know.

What are people's thoughts on these two?
I think "Hawaii" is the better picture, based on depth of story, some great performances by very talented A list actors, stunning location scenery and epic sweep. The PQ, unfortunately, is not great, but generally acceptable. The roadshow addition is in SD and generally poor (a shame). "The Hawaiians" is fine if you are a Charlton Heston fan (I am) and enjoy his macho swagger, non-PC bravado and dialog chewing. Its PQ is better than "Hawaii" and generally of good quality for a Blu-ray. "The Hawaiians" comes across as more of a soap opera potboiler, and thus a poorer stepchild sequel to "Hawaii"s far more opulently resourced production. The AQ for both films is fine, but nothing spectacular.

If you are a fan of the James A. Michner original novel, you would probably enjoy both films, despite the flaws mentioned above. Although I would have liked to see more extras or some commentaries, Twilight Time did their best with what they were given, and just making these films available was important to me.

Hope my thoughts helped. I personally am happy to have both films.

Is 10 To Midnight actually a good movie or is it just Bronson fans creaming their jeans?

I'm not a die hard Bronson fan by any means. I enjoy some of his films. I love Death Wish 1 and 2, Hard Times and 10 to Midnight. Those are the only Bronson films I've seen though but 10 to Midnight is a very solid 80s thriller as far as I'm concerned. I think you will agree.

It's more exploitation than a typical Bronson movie. Half a slasher as well, and more "dirty" and serious than most 80's crime/action movies. I liked it a good bit, it's more interesting than something like Murphy's Law, but would I say it's a hidden 80's gem or something? Nah. Just a solid little Cannon action movie with neat exploitation elements.

From what i've heard, 10 to Midnight is the closest thing to a 80s action movie/exploitation slasher crossover. That's why I wanted it.

Plus no movie collection is complete without some Charles Bronson.

The sale looks like it's really going well. Have to admit I'm a little bit surprised being like it's the third sale in the last couple months. I literally don't have anything left to get.
