![]() ![]() This is a GREAT movie!! One of the best films I have seen in a long time, and the best samurai film I have seen since Harakiri. VERY HIGHLY Recommended. For the color space issue on The Twilight Samurai, from what I have read, this shift is present on some Japanese blu-rays. It is what TT was given. I think the video section of the Blu-ray.com review sums it up best. I want to emphasize that the cinematography is gorgeous beyond words and no one should run away because of the color space. The film has naturally muted color so a little adjustment on your television to realign the luma will make a world of difference. Otherwise, the color will look desaturated and slightly murky. It is still very watchable, but adjusting your set makes it more pleasing and improves the contrast. Kind of a pain to have to do this for some of these Japanese blu-rays, but The Twilight Samurai is worth it. Twilight Time deserves a huge shout-out for bringing Yamada's powerful and beautiful film to Blu-ray in the U.S. I can't thank them enough. I really love this movie. This was posted by member Eddie Larkin two years ago in the forum. I have an Oppo 103 and can confirm this works. On Oppo players the option is found as follows: Setup-Video Setup-HDMI options-Color Space-RGB PC Level (this will typically be set to Auto, which is what 99% of discs require). On the PS3 it can be found as follows: Settings>Display Settings> RGB Full Range (HDMI)>Full (this will typically be set to Limited, which again is correct for all your other discs). For some reason other Sony players don't seem to have this option. I think via my old Panasonics it was: TV/Device Connection>HDMI Connection>HDMI Color Mode. It is an encoding issue from what I understand. The disc could be encoded with the proper color space, and it would look perfectly fine. The same kind of issue was present on Arrow's UK release of Blind Woman's Curse for instance, but then they fixed it for the US release. It does plague many Japanese releases, but it's something that's supposed to be corrected for.

Thanks for the input although no need to sell me on this film, saw it when it came out and I agree with you 100%, excellent film. I like anything and everything Yoji Yamada directs. It makes me wonder why these studios don't correct these (quality) problems before releasing them to disc. Hence my earlier comment about some representative from Twilight weighing in here about this problem.

![]() ![]() The authorities of an old mining town by the Grand Canyon are baffled by a series of brutal murders. A deputy sheriff, played by Cornel Wilde (Leave Her to Heaven, The Big Combo), is pressured by the community to solve the mystery while he deals with a dark event from his past and while he romances a beautiful socialite, played by Victoria Shaw (Westworld, The Crimson Kimono). When his girlfriend is abducted by the killer, the deputy is drawn into a harrowing confrontation on a cable car that is suspended 2,500 feet above the Canyon. Edge of Eternity was directed by the legendary Don Siegel, who also helmed Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Dirty Harry, and Escape from Alcatraz, and, like those films, it benefits from some stunning location photography. The Grand Canyon itself is the real star of this story, and it looks amazing in this widescreen feature that was filmed in CinemaScope. An early scene involving a car crash into the Canyon and a middle scene with an aerial search of the Canyon are both quite breathtaking, and they set the stage for the awesome finale. Although the fight scene on top of the suspended cable car above the Canyon occasionally shows its limitations with rear-screen projection and such, it's still a nail-bitingly intense sequence even by today's standards. I will not go so far as to say that Edge of Eternity is a masterpiece, because the pacing of the story is somewhat quaint, but the photography and the action scenes make it into one of the most worthwhile films of my collection. The experience of watching a film like Edge of Eternity today is a nostalgic reminder of the suspension of disbelief that has been lost with most of today's films that are overly reliant on computer-generated visuals. I probably speak for many movie enthusiasts when I say that I'm weary of scenes in contemporary films where the camera pans out to show some massive CGI city or CGI landscape that is intended to take our breath away, but simply makes us yawn. As someone states on the commentary track of this Blu-ray, "Movies used to take us places, but most of them don't do that anymore." Edge of Eternity, which can now be seen in its original widescreen CinemaScope glory, is a film that really takes us somewhere. I cannot say enough great things about this Twilight Time Blu-ray. ![]() Last edited by The Great Owl; 03-10-2017 at 04:25 PM. |

Not sure about SAE stock, but TT has had less than 500 copies for about 3 months now, wouldn't surprise me at all if their stock runs out by then with this nice sale.

Twilight Time stopping Encore Editions doesn't prevent the studio who owns a film from licensing it to another label once the 3-year TT window is up. If it's a title another label think can be sold on top of the version that TT already released it may show up again.

Best options would either be to go for the Arrow version if you're region free or pick up a used copy on Amazon for 40-45 bucks or so. I bit the bullet and picked up a mint-condition used copy of "Our Man Flint" last year because I was in the midst of moving when it was initially released and wasn't buying BDs for about six months. Then, it sold out. I paid about $40 for it, which wasn't much more than a brand new TT disc goes for when pre-ordering.
