just got an email my SAE order shipped. I might have WSTR by the weekend.
Should definitely have it before it's official street date.

Put a pre-order down for this beauty while I still could. Have to support all the 3D and especially vintage 3D I can.

I received "Who'll Stop the Rain" today. I don't exactly have a state of the art system, but what I've seen looks good to me, and certainly better than I remember the DVD looking.

Twilight Time insiders - Does Inferno utilize the same noise-ridden transfer as Panamint's?

As we have said on our Facebook page, we have never seen the Panamint transfer, so cannot comment on it. However, we can confirm that we have utilized the first generation left-eye, right-eye elements vaulted at 20th Century Fox.

Could you clarify what you mean by "noise-ridden," please?

The Panamint is pretty grainy.

How much of that might be electronic or scanner noise versus organic grain, I can't tell. But I think that is what the previous poster was referring to.

Also, I think the Panamint used the material that was restored by a now deceased associate or friend of Bob Furmanek.

My order came in too. Looking forward to sampling it tonight- think I'll save a proper viewing for another day.

The DVD had an out of focus first reel (that wasn't the case with the HD transfer seen on MGMHD several years back.)

I'm sure it's that same 7+ year old HD transfer, but as long as there are no lip sync issues, I'm sure I'll be happy.

Been a long time waiting for a copy of this watchable on a big screen.

I've watched more of "Who'll Stop the Rain." I noticed a jump cut at 1:11:33. I can't imagine it was in the original film, but you never know.

If anyone is wondering, I think the object Audie Murphy is holding in his hand on the cover is a pack of Lucky Strike cigarettes. He is sharing them with French Union soldiers. At first glance, this might look like a simple cover emphasizing Audie Murphy, but to those familiar with the story, I think it effectively portrays an intimate moment of trust building that is key to Alden Pyle's character in the film (and Graham Greene's source novel).

I am really excited for this release!

It's not grain. The whole movie it looks like it's snowing. It's definitely scanner noise.

Yes, Dan Symmes... He was known as Mr. 3D

I wasn't looking at the time display, but are you talking about the scene where Nolte is confronting Charles Haid by the pool at night?
If so, I can't recall if that scene has always had those dropped frames (on Noltes close up) or not.

But then I was surprised with this viewing how much I had forgotten, or misremembered. It's probably been over 10 years since I last watched it.

A couple things startled me last night and it was almost like seeing the film for the first time. I never before noticed Masur's right eye. I can't imagine how that would have escaped me in the past, but here it really stuck out.

There is also something that is a quasi spoiler
[Show spoiler] They really aren't lovers. There is no conventional love scene. It's all sublimated with Nolte's character's eventual ...yearning (for lack of a better word) for her remaining unfulfilled. I wonder now if that was the aspect that resonated with me all those years ago. He almost literally dies for love.

Wasn't planning on spinning it so soon, but I couldn't help myself. It played a little differently for me after all these years, but I still love it. The supporting performance are all excellent and every character, even ones like Tuesday Welds father who only has a couple scenes, feels vividly authentic to me.

It was also fun to recognize Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad's Mike Ehrmantraut ) playing a soldier early in the film.

The disc itself is no great shakes, clearly using an older, off the shelf master, but I'm thrilled to have it nonetheless. And it easily smokes the old non anamorphic DVD.

Yes, exactly. It was jarring to me. but I tend to notice those kind of things (I went to film school). BTW, there's a very short shot (maybe 5 seconds long) in the climatic sequence that appears to be backward (I remember noticing this when I saw the DVD).

I had the same experience. I only intended to watch a couple of scenes and ended up watching the whole thing. And I still love it. I think this movie is so rich that you can go back to it and keep getting more out of it. Too bad that so little people know about it.

That is definitely just grain. No what I'm talking about are tiny white flecks that drift down the screen and seem to be more prevalent in the left stream. Seems quite obvious when Carson's lowering his bindle down the cliff face. But maybe I'm just expecting too much from this transfer...

If you are referring to dust flecks and "minus density," yes, there is a bit of that especially in the opticals. (Main Titles, and at various points) - more in evidence during the 2D presentation than the 3D.
