I nearly lost out on "Emperor of the North" but raced over to the official Twilight Time site to make my first purchase there after it sold out at Screen Archives. I'd also never seen the movie, but the premise sounded like something I felt I'd really appreciate. And for the most part that's how it works for me... Twilight Time has turned me on to a lot of new movies that I'd never considered (or often even heard of) before. So, generally, if I miss out, I miss out... I know there'll be more new movies for me to try coming down the pipe.

The only one I feel I truly missed out on (and have considered buying used for exorbitant prices) is Woody Allen's "Crimes and Misdemeanors". I simply wasn't aware of Twilight Time as a label before it sold out.
That’s why I like Twilight Time, it gives myself (and many others) a chance to discover classic, obscure, or niche titles. All my TT’s have been blind buys (except At Close Range) and I’ve enjoyed the majority of them.

For me it will always be The Mechanic. The few reviews I bothered to skim at the time didn't bathe it in the most glowing light, and while I've always been a fan of Chuck, I wasn't making a conscious effort to collect all of his acclaimed movies. Now that I've pretty much done that, it remains the one gaping hole in my Chuck R1 collection. Really hope somebody else puts this out there, because I know TT's "no reissue" policy precludes it.

2nd by a long distance is Major Dundee, not because it's a great film but for such a stacked release it was worth the $10 it dipped to (I believe) and it fit in nicely with my other Peck Blu-rays.

Leave Her to Heaven certainly stings too but I'll cut myself some slack on that because I was late to the TT game by the time that one went the way of the fossils.

Yours?
I regret not getting the Driver and Crimes and Misdemeanors. There were several others that I missed out on but eventually purchased through eBay at a later date. And I'm happy with my TT collection thus far. I've since purchased imports of both of those titles, and I probably won't ever get the TT versions unless I can find them for below $30, which is very rare. As for new titles, I preorder the ones I want when they go live. Yes, it gets to be costly, but I'd rather have them now than miss out later. Manhattan Murder Mystery, Geronimo, Wild Bill, and Auto Focus were all preorders. My next two will be Rapid Fire and Gloria for August.

Default Regrets, I've had a few

My biggest regret regarding a TT release that I could have bought and didn't is Bye Bye Birdie. I told myself at the time that I didn't need to own and then, when it sold out, I immediately regretted that decision. I keep hoping now that someone else will pick it up.

At this point I have no regrets, but that's because I've not waited on any titles I must own (I have no problem paying the full price for ease of mind), and I've made an active effort over the last 5-6 years to watch all the movies I haven't seen before via other means in order to know if I want it or not. Almost all are available to find via rentals on Netflix, Amazon, Youtube, etc. The few more that aren't I've tracked down at local small rental places or libraries. Then the very few that remain after that I've blind bought when discounted when I could.

My current list of titles I need to see in order to know if I want to buy it is about 50. I just knocked out My Cousin Rachel the other night (via Amazon streaming), and plan to check out Dragonwyck tonight (available on Youtube).

My other regret which I just remembered not pulling the trigger on was Man Hunt. Now, I'm banging my head for that gaffe.

Maybe The Purple Rose of Cairo but I've never seen it so I might not even like it even though I like a lot of Woody Allen films.

I missed out on Bell, Book and Candle as I was simply unaware of TT at the time. I then bought what I thought was the Spanish release, but it turned out to be a bootleg.

Funnily enough, I was on the fence about TT's release of The Mechanic, as I don't really think it's that good a film. As soon as it went OOP I decided I did want a copy, so ended up getting the German Region B for about $10.

Gents (and ladies, if any are present)

In my 4+ years of maintaining this thread, it gives me no greater pleasure than to finally move this into the SOLD OUT section of the first post. It's about time too......one of the best films TT released and my favorite blind buy ever. This lost-in-the-vault gem should have been one of their first sell outs. Thanks Nick and company for bringing it back for new generations to discover. Finding films like this are the main reason TT has earned my support and, for those who have seen it, the applause of film fans everywhere. Well done.

It's too bad John Guillermin didn't get to see this sell out since he was the one to initially ask TT to release this which prompted TT to look into a possible release at the time.

All this talk of Rapture selling out makes me kind of sad I missed it. It seems to be pretty highly regarded.

And yes, I know "missed" is probably not the correct term as it was available for four years, often at a price less than $10.

................ But I didn't know I wanted it until now... Just now.

Seriously though, Twilight Time releases so many great movies, you could almost pick any random title and find something special about it.

Bell, Book and Candle, The Blob, Bye Bye Birdie, and Leave Her to Heaven are my "ones that got away." I got into the Blu-ray game pretty late and missed out on those. Body Double and Wild At Heart would be on that list, but thankfully they've gotten/are getting other releases friendly to my region. I think Wild At Heart was actually the title that caused me to find out about Twilight Time.

Also, I just watched Bell, Book and Candle go for $105 on eBay last week. *sigh*

I've barely bought half a dozen TT releases, but RAPTURE was one of them, and it certainly deserves to be on the 'Sold Out' list. It's a disc I feel has a special place in my library, with the limited amount of pressings. There is still the Eureka edition for those who are region-free and are now wondering if they should've grabbed it.

It's available for less than $20 on Amazon. Plus, if you're region free, Eureka released it in the UK, and that edition has a commentary track not included on the TT release.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not region free (though, admittedly, I probably should be) but I may try and scoop it up off Amazon.

The only Twilight Time release that I feel I missed out on is THE EGYPTIAN. There were some that I "dawdled" on, BYE,BYE, BIRDIE, CAT BALLOU, but when the sales came, there were always other titles with higher priorities for me. Don't really regret it, because I'm sure they'll show up again somewhere, sometime.

I was late to Twilight Time so I have plenty of regrets but Rapture isn't one of them. I'm glad I got that one.
