It's quite possible that it was for some response he threw in my direction that was short-lived on the thread and bought him a time-out, just as it was in February.

When I asked him a few months back if he was an employee (in the post I referenced in my response to him saying 'that didn't happen'), it was out of a place of genuine curiosity. Even during this last exchange, I didn't have any problems with him until he tried to say I 'didn't know what I was speaking of' and I subsequently threw it back at him with a previous post from a few months back.

FWIW, I don't have a problem with his enthusiasm, either. He goes overboard with it, sure, but I don't believe that's a problem. However, while I'm no shrink by any stretch, I do think he is way too sensitive, can't handle even the gentlest constructive criticism (as klauswhereareyou provided) and seems to 'play the victim card' whenever someone points something out that he doesn't agree with.

The only title I know that sort of sold out in the last year with no warning was Support Your Local Sheriff/Support Your Local Gunfighter.

There’s nothing wrong with low quantity updates; I just don’t want a play by play update.

I don't have a problem with him personally, but the information in the posts that was changing and, thus, might actually have value for somebody was buried amongst all of the non-changing information, so that it was difficult to glean any value from the posts he was working so hard on -- less work would've meant less time spent on it, so he'd get less angry about it, but also less work for the readers to scan the post for the information that had changed. But that one day got pretty ridiculous as far as repetition, it seems like he was either willfully ignoring all requests from the community or consciously contradicting them.

Once Kiss of Death showed back up in stock I put in an order for these:
Che!
The Vanishing
The St. Valentine's Day Massacre
April Love
The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie
Kiss Of Death
The Boston Strangler
The Detective
Tony Rome / Lady In Cement
Total was $111.65 shipped! The Sinatra films are blind buys for me but I'm a sucker for any "detective" movie so I'll give them a shot.

You should enjoy Tony Rome, and Lady In Cement is not quite as good, but still enjoyable.

Glad I picked it up last year when it was on sale for $9.99. Great blind-buy, not the best Truffaut, but second-tier Truffaut is better than many.

The only one I could see being released, by Twilight Time at least, is "Sweet and Lowdown". The others are owned by distributors that do not deal with Twilight Time.

mods feel free to delete this since this is just baseless speculation on my part...

i think the individual that just bought the German 'Charley Varrick' disc from me on ebay is a certain twilight time figure. perhaps TT will be releasing Charley Varrick in the very near future? or it could just be a total coincidence.

anyways...i'd be interested in seeing what TT could do with Charley Varrick! it's right up their alley.

Not unless TT has a Universal deal, more likely they're just a fan of Charley Varrick.

It's been over a month since I last checked this thread because I've been traveling so much in the past month. In terms of buying BD's it's been a rough time to travel since everyone's having a sale! I ordered all the new releases in May with the signed promo, then just two weeks later ordered more movies in the $15 promo. And then the Fox sale got announced while I was on an internet disconnect vacation (Second time doing one -- they're the best!) and when I got back I was worried that all the titles I wanted had sold out. Thankfully, all the sell-outs were titles I already had. But I bought 10 films in June, including far too many low quantity titles. Happy with the overall price-- $160, including shipping.

Ok, TT, that's enough temptation for my wallet for a few months. Have mercy!!

My favorite post from the last month:

“That please-ship-items-in-a-box guy just ordered something else this morning.”
“That guy is such a pain in the ***.”
“Yeah, he needs to get laid.”
On a more serious note, this post from the last month had a great question:

For a while, I was just a few titles away from being a TT completist. But I could never get myself to bite for Fright Night and eventually there were a number of other titles I didn't care for that sold out. My wallet's happy with the realization that I don't need to own every TT title. Still, there have been plenty of TT titles that I've said I had no interest in, only to buy them when they were close to selling out. My TT collection is far too large at this point. I've been pretty careful to get all the titles I want before they sell out, but there's two big titles missing from my collection:

1. Hombre. Paul Newman was a hottie. I had no idea until I saw Cool Hand Luke and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, but now I love the man. I bought all of TT's releases of his movies, but this one sold out from under me.

2. A far second is Night of the Living Dead (1990). This sold out before I was really aware of TT and I never bought it secondhand because of the blue color-timing issue. I keep expecting that someone else will release it, but they never have, and TT received so much flak for it that I doubt they will ever revisit the title.

I usually don't worry about missing a release because I figure it will get released by someone else after 3 years (like Fright Night and Mysterious Island ) but here we are 5 years later with STILL no re-release of The Mechanic. I don't understand what the hold up is. I'm starting to really regret missing that one. In fact, unless I am wrong, I don't think it ever even went on sale, which makes it even more strange that no one else has released it....

Not sure if Stormy Weather is still around but if it is DO NOT hesitate to pick it up. With the exception of Cabaret I am NOT into musicals at all. Yet this film is so exceptional and the performances are some of the best Ive ever seen. Lena Horne, Fats Waller, Cab Calloway, The Nicholas Brothers, Bill Bojangles Robinson, Katherine Dunham the list just goes on and on.

For an all African-American cast in 1943 I was expecting some cringing, eye rolling shucking and jiving. This is not that.

Its funny, its entertaining and it will leave you with a huge smile on your face.

^^^^ Stormy Weather is a marvelous film. I was thinking I once wrote a review for it and a quick search found it from over two years ago. Here it is, reposted for anyone who is wondering about whether Lena Horne and company are worth the sale price (Spoiler Alert: the answer is YES).

Undoubtedly one of the most joyous films TT has released. If you are a fan of musicals, this one is top shelf. If you are not a fan of musicals, get this anyway and be amazed. The performances are worked into the plot as show numbers put on by the entertainers; in fact, the plot is pretty simple and serves to string a series of musical, dance, and full blown stage extravaganzas together from the likes of the incomparable Lena Horne, Bill Robinson (aka Mr. Bojangles), Cab Calloway, Fats Waller, Ada Brown, the Nicholas Brothers, and many more. Stormy Weather is a historic film, often considered one of the two best examples of cinema entertainments featuring a cast entirely made up of African-Americans (the other, according to several articles I have read, is Cabin in the Sky, also featuring Lena Horne).

I have been a fan of Lena Horne for many years. She is one of the top female performers of all time and features prominently in my album/CD collection. The film's title comes from a 1933 song, performed by Horne near the end of the movie's brisk 78 minute run-time. Although the song Stormy Weather has been recorded by other famous singers including Billie Holiday, Ethel Waters, Dinah Washington, and even Frank Sinatra, it is Horne's rendition that immediately comes to mind when I think of it.

While Horne's stage presence captured on film is worth the price of admission alone, Stormy Weather showcases so much talent from its cast it boggles the mind. There is the good-natured and wonderful role portrayed by Bill Robinson, who entertains us with athletic shoe-shuffling grace and makes us completely unaware that in 1943 he was in his 60s! The presence of Cab Calloway is another highlight. For those who, like me, only became aware of this legendary performer from his appearance in The Blues Brothers (1980), his energetic zoot-suited showman persona with his floppy bangs flying as he sings and struts to the sounds of his famous band is as mesmerizing here as it was in John Landis's film homage to the original greats of blues and jazz.

And then, just as the kinetic Calloway has brought beads of sweat to the foreheads of his audience, the energy on display is ramped up to cardiac arrest levels with the introduction of the incredible Nicholas Brothers. Words cannot describe what has to be one of the greatest dance sequences ever captured on film. Their routine is jaw dropping.

I'm currently finishing up an online course from TCM called "Mad About Musicals". (I'm sure others in here are taking it also). During the course, they touched on another musical with an all black cast called Cabin in the Sky. It's another excellent film showcasing an abundance of talent. It's interesting that, according to IMDb, Cabin in the Sky and Stormy Weather were both released in 1943 (... CitS in April and SW in November) ... and both feature Lena Horne. I don't think CitS is out on Blu-ray yet ... but I think it would probably come out under Warner Archives, not Twilight Time.

Here's the trailer (and a synopsis) for CitS:

Sorry for going off topic a little bit, but seeing the talk about Stormy Weather so close after learning about Cabin in the Sky set me off. Both great films!

EDIT: oildude ... I just noticed your mention of Cabin in the Sky in your review. Doh! Sorry for the redundancy ... but not for the enthusiasm.
