Received my most recent order from Screen Archives this morning, and for the first time I had to pay Canadian customs charges.

It was a small order. 4 discs, so about $60 US. Usually small orders like that get by pretty easily. Not this time, though.

I guess I've been pretty lucky not getting dinged in the past. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

Screen Archives doesn't usually put the full value on the declaration though, I seem to remember getting $100 orders and they marked it as $19 or something. Did they put the full amount on your package?

I've ordered twice from SAE in the past couple of months ($50-60 orders) and both times they put the full value.

I have certainly picked up a few unknown titles due to that description. Though I don't think I've done a "day one" if the "plot + cast are not my cup of tea" at TT prices. Certainly have during the sales though.

I think this will be more common for the next while as our government attempts to have a trade war with the US. People are going to have to be patient on deliveries and pay a little more (to Canada Customs).

I haven't actually gotten the package yet. Canada Post tried to drop it off, but I only had debit (which Canada Post apparently doesn't take at time of delivery).

I'll pick it up tomorrow and report back as to the value they reported.

Not directly related to SAE or Twilight Time, but fellow Canadians may be interested in my recent customs experience. I ordered 15 CDs from the UK, which were delivered by DHL a few days later.

The customs bill was $340.

The guy at DHL was very helpful and gave me the customs declaration with what had been declared: 25CDs at £2 each. I went to the local customs office here in Montreal (near PET airport) and the customs was recalculated. I paid just $13.

I think they assessed the high value to force me to go and show them the actual sales invoice, which I didn't have when I went to the customs office and they were nice enough not to ask for. (It showed 15 CDs totaling $600 CDN, so customs should have been about $100.)

Or maybe the guy making the calculation was just an idiot.

So if the customs looks wrong, go and find out.

This event was cancelled so I spent the money it would cost to attend on the producer's products.

You asked.

Just rented/watched Black Widow on Prime. Holy cow what a crazy film. It kept me guessing a lot longer than most films do. Ginger Rogers is pretty great. Will def be picking it up in October.

They are putting the full value on the shipping label now. They used to declare the contents as CDs valued at $3.00 each but my most recent order showed a value of $99.80. It made it through Customs without any charges but I am pretty sure it got through only because the ink on the label wasn't very dark and at a quick glance they thought it said $9.80.

Jeezus, when did that start? Someone should get in touch with them and ask what's up.

“Fright Night” got sold out years ago (that includes the Encore Edition). Rapid Fire, Gloria, In My Country, Manhattan Murder Mystery, Husbands & Wives, Geronimo, and Auto Focus are all titles that are “80s or newer”.

So I checked my most recent order that arrived on Friday and sure enough, it declared the full amount on the declaration (I thankfully did not have to pay fees so that one slipped through).

I contacted Screen Archives and they very kindly responded that they are no longer able to undervalue the amounts as things are basically getting much stricter on that sort of thing on both sides of the border.

Unfortunate, but understandable.

Thanks. As a recording engineer always curious what fans will spend real money on. It is almost hard to give away high quality music these days.

If you find it hard to give away, just look in my direction. I will gladly take any free stuff you are giving away. I spend thousands every year on music- CD or vinyl. I don't do download.

Well... That's too bad. I've been keeping my orders quite small so as to lessen my chances of Customs fees, and it's worked until this most recent order. Looks like I don't have to worry about those restirictions anymore.

Same happened to me but got hit by customs charge and the outrageous Royal Mail £8 handling fee. Ordered two Twilight Time blus for $15 each. Full value got shown on envelope. Result - I get charged £13. Last time I order from SAE.
