I'll certainly grant John Barry consideration. Tangerine Dream...not so much

I've been paid to write, compose and record music, so I know a little bit about it.

Writing a timeless melody will leave a far more lasting impression than a bunch of stuff no one remembers.

I'd rather listen to the Thief Tangerine Dream soundtrack than Chariots, but I also recognize something that is truly iconic.

Same deal with Jaws, not a soundtrack Id sit down and listen to but an absolute masterpiece.

So in other words writing a memorable earworm main tune that gets widely quoted out of context of the film itself is more important than becoming part of the fabric of the character, setting and drama and supporting the film's dramatic intentions? Jaws is a perfectly judged scorewith a lot more to it than the oft-parodied main theme, but while the main theme is effective, parts of Vangelis' score for Chariots seem to actively work against the film in a way his subtler and less hummable work on The Bounty didn't. But as many film composers have noted, the Academy voters tend to favor a memorable 'song' (as they tend to refer to memorable instrumental main themes) rather than more ambitious and intricate works.

Let's not forget though, that Patinkin had a very successful career on the Broadway stage. Perhaps it was a personal decision not to aggressively pursue film and TV.

Has everyone received their orders from the recent SAE/TT sale? I placed an order with SAE on 8-30 and as of now it's still pending. My orders with them in the past have usually been shipped pretty quickly and those were also during sales promotions.

My order arrived like two days after I ordered thru media mail. What titles did you order? I know that "How to Steal a Million" had some backorders but that was for TT's site and not SAE.

Hmm, I suggest you contact SAE. I think "Million" is probably holding it back.

I watched Under Fire tonight finally and was surprised at how disappointing I found it. Not saying it's bad or anything, but it was nowhere near as good as I was hoping. Seemed blandly shot and poorly paced for the most part, and I felt the love story aspects were so ignored and background that they probably shouldn't have been there at all. Some nice shots of Mexico and a cool premise, but meh. I wasn't that entertained. Oh well.

I'm pretty sure they said that the Kremlin Letter sold so poorly on DVD that they won't bother releasing the blu-ray (ignoring the fact of course that it probably sold poorly because people were waiting / wanting a blu-ray). In any event, there is a French release that is region free.

Yes, that. The DVD version of Violent Saturday has still not sold out while the blu ray has, despite the DVD version being released several years earlier. I think this strongly suggests that Twilight Time customers want blu rays.

As for The Kremlin Letter, someone else could pick it up now, no?

Agreed. Also, keep in mind that TT's DVD of Violent Saturday was not anamorphically enhanced, so not many people were willing to deal with that.

You were correct; email from SAE stated they were waiting for their final shipment of How to Steal a Million from TT that should arrive this week.

Just a quick post re Fat City, even though I saw it off the Indicator disc last night rather than via TT.

This is an incredible film, very downbeat but every single second of this just feels so authentic. Fairly sure this slots in straight into my top 25 of all time.

Yeah I would have gotten it if it was a blu ray. I didn't start buying Twilight Time discs until 2013 and seeing that The Kremlin Letter was one of the few DVDs they had, I didn't want to get it (I just wanted blu-rays by that point).
